Please keep these instructions in a safe place for future reference should you
need spare parts.
IMPORTANT Ensure all moving parts are regularly lubricated and all fasteners
kept tightened.

Assembly and Setup.

Fit the main Boss into

the housing as shown.
Lubricate at the centre
hole.

Fix the two sections of track firmly to a work

bench through the screw holes. The smaller
track can be fitted at any distance from the end
of the main one and it is recommended that you
use a straight edge (S) to keep the alignment of
them perfect. The slide body is then attached.

! - Fit the four yellow handle tubes and ensure they

are firmly screwed in with the tube touching the round
boss. Use a bar through hole 1 to assist you. The
black handle extensions are fixed in two positions with
clip (C). Position 1 is for twisting strong bars
(16x16mm/40x8mm). Position 2 is for smaller bars.

Twisting flat and square bars.

Start with the power thread approximately 50% of the way through the
yellow nut. Place the cluster of 4 bars into the correct size gripper on the
end of the power thread and slide the carriage so that the other end of the
bars locate in the other gripper.
Rotate the handles in direction (1) for 1.1/41.1/2 turns.

Drop down into the holes at the end of the track the two wedge stops (S).
The wedge has an angled edge so one stop will be in a different hole to the
other one. The holes chosen will suit the insertion of the wedge (W) so that
it will span both rails thus being supported by both stops. This is important
so select the correct holes carefully.
When this has been done, rotate the handles now in direction (2). After
1.1/4 to 1.1/2 turns you will be back to where you started but the bars of the
basket will be open and almost straight.

Continue rotating the handles in direction (2) until the bars have nearly
closed again.
Set the length of the twist by moving the slide.

Firmly tighten the gripping screws using the Allen Keys.

CAPACITIES

Rotate the handles
to form the twist.

Basket Forming.
To make baskets from 4 x 6mm or 4 x 8mm square or round bars,
make blanks to the recommended sizes as shown. The ends of the
blanks must be welded together across the ends then ground to fit
inside the gripping parts. It is recommended to preheat the bars
and let them cool slowly to reduce the variance of stresses in each
bar. This is more beneficial for the 8mm bars.

Setting up the machine.

The small track is not require. Assemble the power thread and yellow
nutthis is a left hand thread. Fit the square shaft into the square hole
of the boss. IMPORTANT Remove the 4 gripper screws. Fix to the
track with M8 x 60mm screws and nuts. Select the size of square
gripper and fit it over the plain end of the thread. Fit the drive pin
through the holes and slide the plastic retaining collar over the gripper.
Place the double-ended gripper in the slide with the matching size
facing the gripper just fitted to the thread and fix firmly with the two
screws.

IMPORTANTThese sizes are for Hot

Roller Mild Steel and Annealed low carbon drawn mild steel. Working beyond
the capacities stated or with materials of
greater strength or hardness will reduce
the operational life of the machine.

Now rotate the handles in direction (1) and the basket will become a
nice recognisable shape and can be removed at this stage.
HOWEVER, if the spaces between the bars are very uneven you can
continue in direction (1) so the bars open out to approximately 18mm
gaps and you can use the Spacer Device. Slide the component with
the central hole in from one side and place the one with the hook down
from the top and pass it through the hole in the other one. Rotate now
in direction (2) until all four bars touch the spacer device. Now rotate
back in direction (1) by a very small amount where the ends of the
basket are in true alignment with each other. Remove the Spacer
Device. Give the end of the wedge a gentle tap with a hammer then
move the slide away from the boss to release the finished basket.

An extra feature of this machine is the ability to adjust the shape of the
basket. If, after the stage above, you would like the basket to be a bit
shorter or more bulbous then before you remove the basket from the
grippers you can slide the yellow plastic retainer ring to a position
where the drive pin drops out. Then you rotate the handles in direction
(2) and the power thread will reduce the overall length of the basket to
your desired size and/or shape.
