Hey Key Clubbers,
Im really excited to be working with yall
this year! We had a great beginning and things will
only go uphill from now! Key club is all about
providing our members with opportunities to serve
our community, building character, and
developing leadership. So far we have had some
interesting events, and definitely stay tuned for
more exciting socials, fun loving events, and
enthusiastic fundraisers! I would like to
congratulate our 2014-2015 officers! Make sure
you contact you designated class officers
regarding any questions, and they will get back to
you shortly. Our car pool chairmen can address
any issues with rides and make sure you are able
to attend the events. Keep an eye out on
Facebook and Reming101 for information
regarding updates and reminders. Check out a
Trick or Treat for UNICEF box in room 2606 and turn
it in by Nov. 21st. If you fail to turn in money, there is
a high chance of us pulling your exception card.
Remember you are required to have 10 physical
and 10 non-physical or physical hours. Participate
in on-going fundraisers to get your non-physical
hours as well as upcoming socials! Meetings will be
every other Wednesday before and after school in
the Teaching Theater. Make sure you attend the
events you signed up for. Also make sure you find
the officer in-charge of the event and sign in with
them too so you can get your hours. You must
attend meetings in-order to remain a member.
Have a great year guys, and remember that you
can be the change you want to see in this world.

Hey Cy Falls!
As you know, this fall our school is once again
participating in the ever popular fundraiser,
TRICK-OR-TREAT for UNICEF. This fundraiser
partners with the ELIMINATE project in order
to help cure mothers and new born infants of
maternal neonatal tetanus. MNT is caused by
the unsanitary conditions that many women
are forced to give birth in, due to a countries
low development status. This disease is often
fatal. However, this can be avoided when
you donate to the ELIMINATE project. Boxes
are due November 21st, and I hope many of
you are collecting donations. Remember, a
dollar eighty saves a baby! Thank you all for
helping this wonderful cause. Together, we
can help save lives.
Yours in Service,
Matthew Stone

Scary Good Results

By Mariana Verissimo11, Builders Club

Have you ever denied candy on Halloween? How about

raised money to protect and save children in over 190
countries? I have! And Im happy to say it was the best
Halloween to date when I trick-or-treated for UNICEF. This
incredible organization strives to raise money with the
help of us Key Clubbers to provide vaccines, clean
water, nutrition, and more for the safety of children all
around the world. So basically, a group of friends and I
all met up together after a long day of education to get
Halloween ready. I fashioned a hippy costume because
lets face it, Im not a scary person. The goal of the day
was to raise $15 worth in donations, and that was
achieved by going door to door and asking people for
what spare coins may be lying around. But of course we
werent just going to beg for money, we explained what
the donations were going towards and brought
awareness to the unfavorable situation most children
were in. I mean come on, how can you deny supporting
a bunch of dressed up teenagers who are talking about
helping sad children? Luckily for us, YOU CANT. My
friends and I, a group of about 6 teens, set out to divide
and conquer in pairs around a neighborhood to
maximize our success in raising money. No house would
go unattended! At first, it felt a little odd telling people
about UNICEF and asking for donations while a myriad of
children were circulating the streets, crazed for candy.
But as the night went on, we got more and more
comfortable with our plan and we had fun with it! It was
probably the funniest thing to see the shocked reactions
some adults had to see that we were more interested in
raising money than receiving candy. I was astounded by
how giving the community actually was! One man gave
a ten dollar bill plus candy! So, not all treats were denied.
I also remember one woman who was genuinely
interested in our cause and told us how special it was
that we as high school students were active in helping
something bigger than us. And really, thats what key
club is all about, teaching young people how to serve,
making a difference, and making it fun.

that we as high school students were active

in helping something bigger than us. And
really, thats what key club is all about,
teaching young people how to serve,
making a difference, and making it fun.
Needless to say, we surpassed our $15 dollar
goal for our individual trick-or-treat boxes
and came out with a collective total of
$49.56! It brought me so much joy to know
that with only spending about 3 hours of my
time, we were able to help thousands of
children. And to know that other Key Clubs
participated in this event as well is even
more rewarding because it goes to show
how much we can impact the world. I hope
to see this Halloween tradition continue to
grow in order to benefit children who need
help more than candy.

Cumulated Coins
By Moselle Rodriguez9, Freshman Representative
Over the past few weeks, Key Club has sponsored a small fundraiser named Trick or Treat for UNICEF,
and although it may seem like just a small fundraiser its brought me closer than ever with people and
has challenged me to speak to complete strangers. As a freshman, Im not exactly the person whom
everyone wants to hang out with, Im just a new face seen around the school. However, this fundraiser
has challenged me to speak and ask EVERYONE to help make a donation. Its made me realize that
even though were in high school, I meet people wanting to make a difference in the world, even if
that means just dropping a penny in my coin box. Out of the many people Ive met with this incredible
fundraiser, I cant seem to shake an old couple out of my mind. As I was coming home from my bus
stop one day, a nice, old couple was taking a stroll through the streets, if it hadnt been for my crazy
clumsiness I never wouldve met them. I got off the bus and put my water bottle down to tie my shoe,
then of course, being myself, I forgot it there on the ground, but nevertheless my mind was busy so I
walked down to my house. As I was walking, I heard the couple call my name as if that wasnt weird
enough, they called my last name as well. Finally I decided to make that awful scary-movie decision
and turn around to see who was calling my name. The old couple held up my water bottle (which had
my name written on it) with a silly grin on their faces, hiding their laughter as I went back to fetch my
water bottle. I grabbed my water bottle, thanked the couple, then spun around to go back home.
And as I spun around, you guessed it; I dropped my coin box and spilled coins everywhere. When this
happened, the couple really couldnt resist their laughter and exploded with tears coming out of their
eyes, hiccupping from laughing so hard as they helped me pick up the coins from the ground. After
they had finally calmed down they began to ponder around the fact that I had so many coins. I
explained to them the fundraiser I was participating in for Key Club, and how it helped the world. The
old man gave his wife a look, as if on cue, the old woman smiled and opened up her purse revealing
an even smaller coin purse. She pulled put some coins, leaned into drop them into my coin box, and
then whispered into my ear I dont have many days left, but with the days I do have left, Im glad
theres still people out there wanting to change the world. After meeting the lovely couple, Ive
realized that even with the smallest steps, if we all come together, we can change the world. And
thankfully, Im a part of an amazing organization thats taking those steps day by day, event by event,
person by person and I believe that we can really make an impact on the world.
