1st February 2015
If you wish to contribute to the View from the Pew,
please contact the Parish Office.

These are anonymous comments from

parishioners.
How faithful is our God to saving promises made from of
old. Today, we hear Moses promise the people of Israel a future
prophet who will speak in Gods name.
In Marks Gospel, we see that promise fulfilled beyond all
expectations in Jesus, who both teaches with authority and heals
the deepest wounds of the human spirit. In the proclamation of
the Gods living word in our community today, Jesus again
stands in our midst, teaching, healing and saving his people.

Having your child baptised at

Guardian Angels.
If you are planning on having your
child baptised, please pick up a leaflet from the Welcome
and Information Centre, which outlines our baptism preparation programme.
Please note that the first thing that parents have to do is
contact the Parish Office (telephone on 0161 764 1630
or call in) to book onto the First Meeting, held on the
first Sunday of each month. Please do not just turn up
for the meeting without first booking in through the
Parish Office. This means that our Baptism Preparation
Team have a workable number of people each month.

AT GUARDIAN ANGEL
Now that we are into 2015, we start planning and

All those who have already booked their wedding for 2015 with

If you are planning on getting married here in 2015, and haven't
booked the wedding in, please contact the Parish Office (0161 764
1630) immediately. It is a diocesan regulation that 6 months notice
must be given to enable all couples to take part in preparation for celebrating the sacrament.
We will publish the list of Banns for all couples marrying this
yea after they have completed the marriage preparation day.
The Marriage Preparation Day for the three Parishes of Guardian Angels, St Hildas, Tottington and St Josephs, Ramsbottom, is
next Saturday 7th February in the Parish Centre (10.00 am4.00 pm).
Question for the week:
Marks Jesus teaches not by words primarily but by deeds, not to
build up himself but to help others, and thus with an authority founded
not on power but in service. What will I do this week to help another
and be of service?

A Prayer for the Sion Mission for

St Gabriels School 2015

Father God,
Help St Gabriel's to respect all members of our community
through love, faith and belief.
Allow our mission to help us recognise the value of others
and our own potential.
We thank you that we can celebrate our faith freely and
aspire to make a positive Christian Contribution to society.
Amen
St Gabriel, Pray for Us.

FR JOHN CRIBBEN
Sadly we have to report the news that Fr John Cribben
died suddenly on Tuesday morning.
Fr Cribben (J.T.) was my predecessor as Parish Priest
here at Guardian Angels. He served here from 19861995,
working hard in our parish, ensuring that we have a wonderful
parish centre, and transforming so many aspects of Parish life
during his time of ministry in the Parish. He made me so welcome when I was appointed here, and we were fortunate to have
both of us here for his final and my first weekendthat kind of
transition hardly ever happens!
He was generous with his time and talents, and helped so
many people to take an active part in the life of the Parish.
He will be sorely missed in our Diocese. Please remember to pray for him, his family, and his parishioners at Our Lady
& St Patricks, Walton-Le-Dale, and also at St Mary & St John
Southworth Parish, Salmesbury, which he was also responsible
for during these past few years.
As with all sudden deaths, it takes quite some time for
funeral arrangements to be made. At this point there are no details of his funeral available. With the Office being closed this
week, I would suggest visiting the Diocesan website, where
details will be posted as soon as they are announced by the Diocese.
As a Parish we will remember J.T. and celebrate his life
and ministry at a special Memorial Mass (a months mind) on
Tuesday 3rd March at 7.30 pm (we have avoided the half-term
break). More details to follow.
May He Rest in Peace.

CONGRATULATIONS
To Guardian Angels Primary School.

inspection judgement of one of our parish Primary
Schools.
