Helping MSPs build

on-premise services
The data protection world has drastically changed in the past few years. Protection and
recovery of data and systems has truly evolved to now be treated as an IT service and
many organizations are relying on external partners, such as a Managed Service Provider,
to help with their strategy and infrastructure.
However, many current platforms in the market were never designed to be used by a Service Provider. Taking
just any solution and making a service out of it ignores the many design considerations that have to be taken
into account.
With arcserves Managed Service Provider Program, an outsourcer benefits from a licensing model whereby
software is billed on an as-used basis. This utility-based licensing model enables the Service Provider to optimize
their costs in line with the services as they are needed.

Introducing arcserve Unified Data Protection: a service provider platform

arcserve UDP is a new solution built on the foundation of very mature and proven arcserve technology, offering a
seamless solution from endpoint to remote archive site.
arcserve UDP delivers comprehensive Assured Recovery for virtual and physical environments with a next
generation unified architecture and an unmatched ease of use. This feature-rich solution enables Service Providers
to scale their IT services easily, while delivering against their recovery point and recovery time objectives,
on-premise or in the cloud. Traditional, overly complex backup policies are replaced by modern task-based data
protection plans and deep integration with hypervisors to fully automate complex, repetitive tasks.
arcserve UDP is the first solution to combine industry-proven backup, replication, high availability and true global
deduplication technologies within one solution and, unlike competitive products, does not require extensive
professional services to implement.

Fast backup Fast Recovery

arcserve UDP is a powerful data protection solution that delivers block-level Infinite Incremental (I2 Technology)
and true global deduplication for fast and frequent backup to disk. Our technology not only speeds backup to help
you meet your customers backup windows, it can significantly reduce backup storage requirements, the impact to
the production server and the amount of data transmitted across the network. And since backups are stored on
disk, data recovery can typically occur far faster than recovery from tape, delivering better recovery time objectives
(RTOs) to help address demanding service level agreements (SLAs) in both Windows and Linux environments
helping improve their productivity while reducing costs.

Tape option for long terms storage

Want migration of disk images to tape, with granular restore from disk or tape? We have it! In some customer
environments, image-based backup may be preferred but tape support is required too. With arcserves tape option,
Service Providers can leverage tape devices and media for clients who demand tape support for long-term storage
and compliance, and provide granular rehydration directly from tape.

Continuous data protection

Some customer file servers and application or database servers may be considered mission critical where
periodic backups or snapshots dont deliver the recovery point objectives (RPO) needed. These environments
require continuous data protection and Service Providers should use arcserve UDP in those situations. This solution
protects data on Windows and Linux systems and supports both physical and virtual server environments. Whether
data is stored on DAS, NAS or SAN, you can offer your clients real-time data replication to another server/storage
device whether located in the data center or any remote location and offer this as an additional data protection
service and charge an additional fee. arcserve offers Service Providers remote, non-disruptive deployment along
with centralized management and reporting. You also get automated, non-disruptive recovery testing that adds
another level of protection and a strong competitive differentiator.

On-Premise System Protection and Recovery

arserve offers Service Providers three different solutions for system protection and recovery. Each solution is
designed to meet specific RTOs and RPOs. This flexibility enables Service Providers to offer different service levels,
each with their own value-based pricing.

Bare Metal Recovery (BMR)

arcserve UDP offers two key system recovery technologies. The first is hardware-independent Bare Metal Recovery
(BMR). This solution copies image recovery points to removable media like a USB drive or DVD. After a system
failure, this image is used to restore a complete physical server or virtual machine (VM), including operating system,
application and data, to the same or dissimilar hardware. BMR can slash system recovery time by 80% over having
to re-install a complete operating system and application from scratch.

Virtual Standby
The second is Virtual Standby, which offers a faster system recovery solution where Service Providers can charge
a premium fee. The virtual standby capability automatically converts periodic recovery points (from physical and
virtual server backups) into VMware and Hyper-V virtual disk formats and installs and registers those virtual disks
with the appropriate virtual server hypervisor. This solution includes system monitoring and offers both automated
and manual failover to the local virtual server after a system outage is detected.

Near continuous system and data availability with High Availability

For clients that require near continuous system and data availability for file, application and database servers,
Service Providers can leverage arcserves UDP High Availability options. This solution works with Windows, Linux
servers, and select UNIX environments, and supports both physical and virtual server environments. The solution
includes real-time system and application monitoring, automatic and push-button failover, and push-button
failback after the production server is repaired or replaced. This solution delivers continuous protection and
near-instantaneous failover, helping keep business going even after a system outage. This premier system
recovery solution offers Service Providers a strong competitive advantage allowing them to command a higher
service fee.

RPS Jumpstart or offline synchronization

This capability allows users through their MSP to save data stores to a portable disk unit (like a small NAS for
example) to seed a remote site. This can save significant bandwidth, time and cost to get a remote server
synchronized. In essence, this offline synchronization process accelerates the deployment of Recovery Point Servers
and reduces (costly) data transfers. This capability is ideal for environments with limited bandwidth or charge-bythe-usage connections.

Remote Monitoring and Management

arcserve UDP provides API access for integration with Remote Monitoring and Management (RMM) tools to extend
the management and reporting experience. RMM Tools enable IT Service Providers to fix problems before a client
suffers costly downtime. In order to show the value you are providing behind the scenes, RMM offers flexible
reporting tools so you can document the computer and network issues resolved by type or timeframe.

Summary
arcserve UDP provides the foundation for many on-premise system and data protection/recovery managed
services. It offers Service Providers depth and breadth of technologies and capabilities to build a full suite of
managed services, each with their own unique value proposition and value-based fee. These solutions offer
remote deployment, management and reporting to help reduce onsite support efforts and costs to help improve
your profitability. arcserve provides unique solutions so you can gain a competitive advantage in the market while
expanding your opportunities to address a diverse set of customer environments and needs.
