This manual introduces the installation, using method of FiberHome Wview Network
Management System with version 3.7 of Fiberhome Network Company. It provides
simple introduction of product, including the system characteristics and the network
management protocol used by this system. It provides system requirements and

needed, the installation process and software using descriptions. It provides user

FiberHome Wview Network Management System is an integrated Management
System of network element-level. It uses modular design. It consists of a number of
different functional modules. It can manage series devices of Fiberhome Network
Company.
FiberHome Wview Network Management System has the following prominent
characteristic:
The management
platform
and interface are completely unified.
The
management information and management object of different device can be

packaged into the form of software package. It is convenient to upgrade for
software.
It uses standard SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol).
The communication protocol of version 3.7 of FiberHome Wview Network

Management System conforms to SNMP V1 (RFC 1155-1157) and SNMP V2c
proposed by IETF. According to the five management function of network
management, such as configuration management, fault management, performance
management, security management, account management and etc. It uses
object-oriented design to achieve multi task processing. The dynamic distributed
processing of Manager and Agent is real-time. It has a graphical interface. A variety of
vivid images and simple graphics operation is very convenient to use.

2.1 Overview
FiberHome Wview Network Management System is based on the C/S architecture of
distributed network management system. And it supports for multiple client and server
deployment.
This chapter mainly introduces hardware platform, specific configuration requirements,
system running environment and the installation, startup and unloading method of
FiberHome Wview Network Management System.

2.2 Hardware Platform and Software Environment

Purpose
This section introduces hardware platform and configuration requirements of the
FiberHome Wview Network Management System and the operation environment
required for the software.
2.2.1 Hardware Platform

Configuration Requirements
The hardware platform of FiberHome Wview NMS(NMS for short) is PC

Server(such as DELL POWEREDGE 1300 etc).
System memory is required to be above 512M, recommended to be above 1G.

System virtual memory is recommended to be above 100M.

Hard disk requires above 10G and we recommended to be 20G. It is mainly for
storing a large number of network management data.
CPU requires Intel PIII 500E and above, recommended to be Intel PIII 800EB.
CD-ROM is recommended to be above 40X.
The size of monitor is suggested to be above 17.
Need to be connected with network equipment through Ethernet, and the network
management equipment can offer access to the network management server
actively.
2.2.2 Software Environment

Configuration Requirements
The requirements of FiberHome Wview NMS operating environment are as follows:
OS is recommended to be Windows NT4.0 pack 6 or above Windows 2000.
Display resolution: recommend that the display screen area is set to above 1024
768 pixels, so that one can get better display effect. If running the program in
800600 pixels, it maybe shows an incomplete phenomenon.
2.3 Software Installation and Uninstallation Instructions

Purpose
This section introduces the installation and uninstallation steps of FiberHome Wview
NMS.
Content
The name of network management system is NM-WView-Platform_version
number.exe. According to user requirements, the following installation can be done.
Only install server program.
Only install client program.
Install system server and client program at the same time.

Purpose
This section introduces how to install client of FiberHome Wview NMS.
Steps
1 Running the installation program of FiberHome Wview NMS, it first shows
decompression interface as shown in figure 2-3-1.

2.3.4 Uninstall Introduction

Uninstalling this software, please choose to unload client and server of Wview NMS in
the control panel/adding or removing program according to users requirement.
2.4 Software Using Instruction

Purpose
This section introduces the startup method, stopping method and user registration
method of the server and client of the network management program.
Content
First, start the server, and then start the client. When exiting, first exit the client, then
exit the server.
2.4.1 Start Server

Steps
1Click the start server console option of the Wview NMS program group in the
start menu.
2It shows login interface of server, as shown in figure 2-4-1.

3Click the Register button, if user has registered, it will show the following dialog
box, as shown in figure 2-4-2.

If user has not registered, the registration code column will be empty.
If user has got registration code from our company website, please use the code
to fill in the dialog box, and then click the register button to complete the
registration.
Click the return button to be back to the main window.
4Click the configuration button to enter the configuration interface, as shown in figure
2-4-3.

5It needs relevant software to support the CORBA service option, as the above
figure. Click the application button to save configuration.
2.4.2 Start Client

Steps
1Click the start client option of the Wview NMS program group in the start menu.
2It shows login interface of client, as shown in figure 2-4-4.

3Input username, password and server IP address or server name, then click the
confirm button to enter the main interface of client, as shown in figure 2-4-5.
If input wrong password for three times, it will prompt the user that this username
is locked (except the root user).

Steps
1Use the mouse to select system menu, and then click <exit system>. As shown in
figure 2-4-6.

Steps
1User can click the stop menu of the tray menu to manually stop the server program.

1Click [Get Registration Code Next Step Register] on server registration dialog
box of the FiberHome Wview NMS. As shown in figure 2-4-8, 2-4-9 and 2-4-10.

2After getting installation code, please input the following website in the IE browser
to enter user registration interface.

3Enter user registration interface, input user information and installation password.
Attention:
Email and telephone is optional. If user fill in these information, please make sure that
email and telephone is consistent with the information when user first registered.

2.4.6 Operation Introduction

Content
In this system, the management objects have: network topology, the entire device,
device interface, equipment software and hardware. Each management object in the
interface has corresponding icon.
The basic operation method of the management object is that using the mouse to click
the tools button on the tool strip, or right-click the pop-up menu item of each device
node on the topological graph, or using the mouse to click each image object of the
device configuration graph. Using the corresponding operation introduced above, user
can get information of the management object.

This topic introduces the user how to configure user management.
Procedure
User management is divided into seven parts:
View the user information
1 Click the" user management" button appears on the right panel, a list
of all users, the user can use the menu to the user management

the right panel, the user can be able to manage user ,as shown in
Figure3-2-4.

Adding user
1 Select the popup menu in" Create user information", the window
shown in Figure3-2-5 appears.

The user name, password confirmation, user group can't be empty. User
name can not be repeat with other user name, the effective length of
password is 4-16 bits.
2 Click the next button as shown in Figure3-2-6, the user can configure
the user password security detection, IP address binding. Enable
password password security detection. The effective length of
password is 6-16 bits and the password must contain a combination
of uppercase

3 Click <Finish >button, the system can create a new user.
Modify User
1 To modify the user, right-click menu, select" modify user information,

the window as shoiwn in Figure3-2-7and 3-2-8 appears, including the
basic attribute and the safety control.

2 Click <OK> button.
Delete User

1 Select the user which need to be deleted. Right-click the menu,

select" delete user information as shown in the Figure3-2-9.

Unlock the User
1 Input the error password five times, the system will be lock, the
operator must use the root user or other authorized user login in.The
user can select the lock user name andright-click menu,
select"unlock the user, the window as shown in Figure3-2-10

1 Select the lock user in the user list, right-click menu, select "user

Adding the User Group

Click right-click pop-up menu from user group list, select" create
user group information"which appears the increase user group:
dialog box, If the user select the" super operation", the user group
has full permissions. Click < ENTER > to create a new user group
as shown in the Figure3-2-14 appears.

Mofidying the User Group

In the user list selected which the user group need to be modified,
right-click pop-up menu, select" modify user group information" which
appears in the Figure3-2-15, the window includes modify user group
name, modify user groups description and permissions described tree
user group permissions.

Deleting the User Group

In the user list select the user group need to be deleted, right-click
pop-up menu and select" delete user group information". Click < OK>
button, the can delete the selected user group is as shown in
Figure3-2-16

In the management of the domains list, right click" create management
domain" button and input management domain name, description, and
select the management domain of the right tree panel, click < OK >
button as shown in the Figure3-2-18 appears.

1 In the management domain selecte the management domain which

need to be modified, right-click pop-up menu and select" change
management domain", as shown in the Figure3-2-19.

Delete Management Domain

Select the management domain which need to be delete. Right-click
pop-up menu and select" delete management domain", click < OK >
button, as shown in the Figure3-2-20.

When the user selects the menu item, the window is as shown in the 3-3-2, the
different color of equipment icon background represent equipment different state. The
default color is as shown in the below table, the user can configuration the color under
the configuration warning" or" configuration \ configuration topological node" menu.
At the same time, the topological tree leaf nodes may display the corresponding icon
in the left side. The equipment icon will show in red color when the equipment alarms.

This topic introduces the user how to configure information column.
Procedure
The upper right corner information column of Network management display the alarm
information: includes alarm level and various alarm colors, five level alarm indicates in
red, four level alarm indicates in orange, three level alarm indicates in yellow, two
level alarm indicates in blue, one level alarm indicates in purple, the statistics number
of alarm is as shown in Figure3-3-4 at the same time:

3.4.3 Trap Filtering or Shield

Overview
Trap filter of network management system receives the alarm information, save to
alarm log, but it will not display in the trap column. Trap shield is not receiving the trao
information and not save to alarm log.
Trap filtering is devided into " trap type"," warning device"," trap card"," trap port" and"
alert level" to filter or shield. When configuring the trap filtering or shield rules, if the
user does not select trap shield option, the default value is trap filtering.
Also, the user can configure the trap time, Military Time, the end time of trap time must
be greater than or equal to start trap timeevery day. If the user configure the trap
filtering or shield rules from 23:00:00 to 2:00:00, it can be configured as two trap
filtering or shield rules. As the first rule was set from 23:00:00 to23:59:59, the second
rule will be set from00:00:00 to 02:00:00.
Procedure
Trap filtering or shield configuration interface as shown in the Figure3-4-24 appears
Trap filtering is devided into " trap type"," warning device"," trap card"," trap port" and"
alert level" to filter or shield. Also the user can be able to query the configured alarm
filtering or shield rules according to the corresponding query trap. At the beginning of
loggin the interface of configure trap filtering/ shield, the user can query the
configured trap filtering/ shield after the user query trap information.

can be albe to view the formar trap reason, trap sultion and trap reason when meeting
the similar trap on the same location, refer to Figure3-4-32 and 3-4-33.

experience information since there has one trap information at least.

resource. The created information can be queried by inputting query conditions such
as name, type, IP address range, MAC and resource ordering.
Right click item from universal device resource list and select Import Device
Resource from popped up right click menu; the Import Device Resource dialog is
shown as Figure3-7-4:

The dialog lists both selected and optional device resources. Select one of the items
from optional device resource list and click [
] button to move one device into

The system defines a predefined template for each device with different types that the
templat covers all supported performance indexes of the device type.
Create customized template:
1. Right click universal device templet list, select Create New Performance
Template from popped up right click menu and the Create New Performance
Template dialog is shown as Figure3-7-7:

2. Select device type, input template name (required) and template description
(optional) and second step dialog of created new performance template will
appear by clicking Next button. In this dialog, selected performance resource

those resources into selected resource list. The selected resource can also be

Device Template from the right click menu. If instance to the template has been
created, then the instance cannot be deleted.

2. The second step dialog of created new performance instance will appear by
clicking Next button. Select performance template corresponding with device
type in step one from the dialog of second step of created new performance
template, referring to Figure3-7-14 below:

During the creation of device instance, performance index of instance in a same device cannot be
duplicated. For example, device 1 creates two device instances, in which instance 1 binds with
template 1 while instance 2 binds with template 2, in this cast performance index in template 1 and 2
shall not be duplicated, otherwise a failured prompt window will be popped up during the creation,
referring to Figure3-7-15. Additionally, the prompt also appears when the selected device type does
not match the template.

3. The third step dialog of created new performance instance will appear by clicking
Next button, as shown as Figure3-7-16 below. The instance and template can be
located then.
4. The forth step dialog of created new performance instance will appear by clicking
the above Next button. The step is to establish start/stop to the instance. If auto
start up is selected, then the starting to selected instance must be established in
manual; if timing start up is selected, then the system will implement the starting
according to defined time. Similarly, the instance stop obeys the same rule that it
has two algorithms as auto start up and timing start up, referring to Figure3-7-17
below:

Set index parameter

Performance index management
Select a device performance instance item, press [
] button from the line where the
item being listed to check on performance index contained by the instance. If the
selected performance instance is in stopped status, it is capable to re-proviison to the
index name, description information, threshold and sampling time.
Modify sampling&report plan

Start instance
Instance status can be shown from the instance list that the status is divided into
Stopped and Started. If the selected instance is at Stopped status, then it can be

Once the instance is started successful, the status would turn into Started, referring
to Figure3-7-19 below:

Stop instance

Performance real-time Monitor
Performance real-time monitor is to perform real time monitor to one of the

performance indexes of a device with sampling time interval 3 seconds. Select a
device performance instance and press [
] button from the line where the item
being listed to check on the performance index contained by the instance.

1. Select a performance index and right click, the popped up window appears as
shown in Figure3-7-21 below:

2. Select Start Instance to start up the performance index, then the status turns into
Started. Click Confirm and the performance real time monitor window appears
as shown in Figure3-7-22 below. The data sampling is updated every 3 seconds
that along with time processes, the curve slides left.

There are two options for performance real-time monitor window, Monitor and
Window. The monitor menu allows the user to lock on specific performance
monitoring that once locked, an administrator password is required for further
operation. The window menu is applied for designating distribution to real-time
performance statistic window where multiple performance indexes can be real-time
sampled at a time with overlap layout, referring to Figure3-7-23 below.
In order to provide convenience, it is able to pick designated window to top from
overlapped windows by opening Window menu under Overlap Window distribution.

Click Performance from top menu and select Performance Management from drop
down menu, click Interface Performance from the left window, the tab column
Universal Interface Resource, Universal Interface Template and Universal
Interface Instance will appear at the right, referring to Figure3-7-29 below:

Select the tab page Universal Interface Resource that displays created universal
interface resource to query those created information by inputting query conditions
such as device name, device IP, interface name and resource ordering.
Right click universal interface resource list and select Import Interface Resource

Device polling queue
1. Click Config from right click menu when the designated system service is one of
the following: Device Polling Queue 1, Device Polling Queue 2, Device Polling
Queue 3 and Device Polling Queue 4, the configuration dialog of device polling
queue service is shown as Figure 3-8-10 below. The tab page Service Parameter
Config is set as default page.

2. Click Device Polling Queue # from the left tab, the device polling queue tab page
will be shown to the right, referring to Figure3-8-11 below:

3. Polling interval and polling device within the queue can be modified in the page.

Every device in the device list is acquiescently arranged into queue 4. Device will
also be added into the queue 4 by clicking to empty the queue that the device
locates. Select a queue and click Modify Queue, the dialog will be shown as
Figure3-8-12 below:
Note
Maximum 10 devices for Queue 1, 20 for Queue 2, 200 for Queue 3 while no maximum number limit
for Queue 4.

4. Select or fill in proper conditions referring to above figure and click Next, the
device list will appear shown as Figure3-8-13 below:

Harddisk space check
1. The dialog of harddisk space check is shown as Figure3-8-14 below. The tab page

Procedure
The Timing Task has 5 types of task including Trap Log Backup, Security Log

below:

Referring to above figure, the Start and Stop are for starting/stopping designated
timing task, the Refresh is for refreshing service list while the Config is for access

Objective
The section introduces the configuration of Telnet.
Procedure

address and the result appears as shown in Figure3-9-5, remote access to device can
be available by inputting username and password.

Procedure
1. Select MIB Tool from the Tool menu referring to Figure3-9-1, the MIB tool

Objective
The section introduces the functionalities of report generating to trap information and
device information.
Procedure
The F-Engine Wview NM system currently provides report generating to trap
information and device information, which has 4 types of report or facility including
Trap Report, Device Report, Port Utilization Ratio and Performance Report,
referring to Figure3-10-1 below. Each of those report type contains varieties of
statistics or analyzing reports.

Select Trap Report from the Report menu referring to Figure3-10-1, the trap report
window appears as shown in Figure3-10-2 below. The trap report tab page includes
Trap Record Initial Detailed Report, Trap Record Statistic Report and Trap
Monthly Trend Analysis Report.

3.10.2 Device Report

3.10.3 Report Generating

Objective
The section introduces the configuration of Report Generating.
Procedure
The system report provides two generating methods including real-time generating
and periodically generating, in which the real-time report indicates the immediately
generating way once the port export button being clicked that the generating time cost
is depending on data quantity and analysis complexity, while the period report
indicates a time defined generating way that the user is able to designate as precisely
as a certain time spot every day/week/month.
It is noticed that the period report cannot be fetched from designated report
generating path if the period report is generated but the client terminal is not started.
However,
the
generated
report
can
be
found
under
the
path
..\jboss*\server\Wview\ftpserver\home\Wview\report of server installation category in

the host that the server locates, referring to Figure3-10-6 below:
