History:
For 180 years, the family tradition of wine-making has been passing from generation to generation as
the Medeville estate continues to uphold its name, expand and modernize. In 1826, Mr Jerome
Medeville, a barrel ccoper from Cadillac, bought Chateau Fayau, an estate with 12 hectares of vines.
He became a wine grower and wine producer. In 1908, thanks to Numa Medeville, an enterprising
banker and wine-maker, the estate expanded to both sides of the Garonne. In 1953, Medeville family
purchased Chateau du Juge located in Haux. In 1973, with the arrival of Jacques Medeville (owner of
today), the 7th generation of Medeville began to settle in. The estate has continued to expand.
Medeville family has purchased another estate: chateau Mouret.
Chateau Boisson is in Medeville family for 7 generations. The base of SCEA Medeville & Son in
located in the centre of the wine-making region of Bordeaux. Today, Jacques, Jean and Marc manage
almost 180 hectares, supported by a team of 28 people.
A modern approach has always been embraced by the directors at Jean Medeville & Son. Yet, at the
same time, they ensure they maintain elements of tradition during their wine-making; the wine is
subject to strict guidelines at every stage in its development.
It is thanks to this careful balance of modern methods couples with traditional ways that the Jean
Medeville & Son winery has established its reputation and continues to satisfy a large customer base.
In Cadillac, Chateau Fayau is in the heart of the wine-making region, both geographically and
strategically. Thanks to its positioning, its 41 hectares of vines can produce Cadillac Ctes de
Bordeaux, Cadillac, Bordeaux Suprieur, Bordeaux Clairet and Bordeaux Blanc.
Further up, on the hillsides of Haux, chateau du Juge and Chateau Greteau are located on the right
bank of the Garonne.
Chateau Bibey and Chateau Boisson, situaded in Cardan and Beguey respectively, complete this
range of wine.
On the left bank, the vineyards extend across the most prestigious and old territory of Bordeaux,
Graves and Sauternes.
In Fargues, Chateau Barbier produces delicious Sauternes whilst Chateau Boyrein, du Mouret and
Peyreblanque offer an attractive choice of red and dry white Graves.
For almost a year, Medeville family has been working closely with an environmental group (SME,
Systme de Management Environnemental) and other wine-makers in the area. We are working
together to establish the impact of our activity on the environment and how we can minimize this
