GENERAL OBLIGATIONS
1) Existing Tree Roots
Where roots of existing trees have been damaged or exposed, the following treatment
shall be carried out:
a) Shall be wrapped with straw or hessian during construction of the works. This
includes all roots exposed during excavation.
b) Before backfilling, cut exposed roots back to living tissue and sealed with sealant.
c) Backfilled with Garden Soil with appropriate mix.
2) Protection of Existing
Protect and preserve all existing trees and shrubs trees and shrubs except those
instructed to be removed. Comply with the following:
a) No nails or other fixings are driven into trees
b) No fencing or strings ropes are attached to trees
c) No intrusion into areas of woodland or shrubs is made without the approval of the
Architect
d) Do not permit fires nor dumping nor storage of materials or machinery within the
limits of woodlands, shrub areas or against trees.
e) No workshop, canteen or the like shall be installed beneath trees nor shall equipment
maintenance be carried out beneath trees.
f) No trees shall be used as anchors for ropes or chains used in guying, pulling or the
like
3) Watering Existing
During the dry season, watering of the existing vegetation will be necessary at least
three times per week at a rate of 10 liters per square meter. Water existing with clean
(non-toxic) water.
4) Existing Services
Check and confirm the position of all existing utility services within the site including
locating by means of hand dug trial holes.
Do not commence work adjacent to existing services until the necessary diversion or
alternations have been completed.
5) Damage by Erosion
Protect and contain the planting area against erosion, wash down or collapse and
reinstate any parts of the planting areas so distributed, including any adjacent land that
may have been affected and comply with the government requirements as to removal of
spoil or debris.
Maintain protection and be liable for reinstatement until 18 month maintenance period is
completed.

Materials and workmanship generally to be consistent with the good landscape and
horticultural practice, except when specified or approved otherwise by architect
7) Choice of Material
When a choice of material is allowed, the same type and size selected by subcontractor
must be used throughout for all works in like locations.
8) Setting Out
Accurately set out all the works and obtain approval. Notify the architect of any
discrepancy between the drawings and the actual conditions on the ground prior to
commencement of the work in the area to which such discrepancy relates.
9) Protection from Weather
Cover up, protect and secure the works and the specialists works from damage by
inclement weather including providing sufficient staff, adequate plant and other
requirements necessary to ensure protection

11) Inclement Weather
Avoid execution of the Works during periods of inclement weather. Take all necessary
precautions to protect the works and remedy the effects of typhoon, monsoon, heavy
rainfall, drought, desiccating winds, and strong sun, including watering and securing of
plants.
12) Cleanliness
Store materials and plant neatly, remove rubbish and debris as they accumulate, and
keep the site and works clean and tidy.
13) Protection from Overloading
Protect the Works from damage as a result of overloading to all hard surface areas and
access ways to the works area.
14) Work at Completion
Clean the works thoroughly without damage and make ready for use.
15) Security at Completion
Leave the works secure and safe, and hand over to the Architect..

16) Existing Soils
The subcontractor is assumed to have inspected the existing subsoil and topsoil and is
satisfied himself that it is acceptable for the work specified herein.

17) Garden Soil Mix


Mix shall be a mixture of friable completely decomposed rock and soil conditioner. Soil
mix shall be free from grass or weed growth of any kind, sticky clays, salt, and stones
larger than 30 mm in diameter or other foreign material.

19) Final Grading
Grade all areas to free flowing contours and free from humps and water collecting
hollows. Slightly mound plant beds except when specified otherwise. Finish soil levels
immediately behind retaining walls, 75mm below the top of the wall after settlement.
Finish flush with adjacent paving on plant beds at ground level or as indicated otherwise
on the Landscape Planting plans and drawings.
20) Top Soil and Backfilling in Raised Planters
Spread 100mm deep drainage layer in the bottom of the raised planter. Cover area with
filter cloth. Fill the raised planter to 75mm below top of planter wall. Fill soil layer per
layer, each at 250mm until desired height of soil is achieved. Lightly consolidate each
layer before spreading the next layer.
PLANTING TREES
STANDARD TREES shall have the following characteristics:
a. A sturdy straight stem, not less than 1800 mm in height between the soil level to the
lowest branch
b. A stem diameter 30 to 50mm when measured at a point one meter above the root collar
c. A well balanced branching head or a well-defined straight and upright leader with
branches growing out form the stem with the good symmetry and a minimum length of
600 mm
.
d. A total height above soil level between 2750 3500mm
e. A root ball not less than 350mm in diameter and 300mm in depth
LIGHT STANDARD TREES shall have the following characteristics:
f. A sturdy straight stem, not less than 1200 mm in height between the soil level to the
lowest branch
g. A stem diameter 15 to 30mm when measured at a point one meter above the root collar

TREE STAKING
a. Ties for Tripod Staking Ties shall be raffia 5mm diameter or plastic coated wire 2mm

b. Ties for Tree Guards - Ties shall comprise 300mm long, 3mm thick black rubber hose 15
0 20 mm dia and 3.5 dia. 150 mm long galvanized steel cable and adjustment U clamp
c. Guys Guys shall be 3nos per tree and shall consist of 7 strand galvanized wire to a
rubber hose
d. Guying Stakes Guys shall be 15 x 15 x 5 mm thick angle iron painted with one coat.
Approved primer and one coat approved topcoat.
TREE SEQUENCE OF OPERATIONS
1) Prepare tree in nursery
2) Dig tree pit in required size
3) Soak rootball
4) Fork over base of tree pit 150mm deep
5) Fix stakes if vertical
6) Prepare backfill material
7) Backfill base in layers and firm in to adjust planting depth
8) Remove root ball covering and place tree
9) Adjust orientation of crown
10) Check planting depth and adjust as necessary
11) Tie tree to stakes if vertical
12) Secure underground fixing (if available)
13) Back fill in layers and firm in each layer with heel
14) Fix tripod stakes
15) Water thoroughly
16) Adjust tree ties
17) Mulching if available
GROUND COVERS, SHRUBS, & OTHER PLANTS

GROUND COVER plants shall have all the following characteristics:


o A minimum of five well developed vigorous roots
o A well-developed vigorous root system
o Minimum size not less than 150mm
o Grown in container not less than 100mm diameter

LARGE SHRUBS plants shall have all the following characteristics:

medium bamboos and 1500mm high for large bamboos, except when specified
otherwise

o Grown in a container not less than 450mm in diameter and 450 mm deep

GRASSING

TURF GRASS shall have all the following characteristics:

FINISHED LEVELS

WATERING
o Water immediately after laying. Use fine spray hose attachment when watering to
avoid any erosion
WORKMANSHIP
o Lay turfs in their final positions within 48 hours of lifting
o Lay turfs on prepared soil bed across the slope, closely but in consecutive rows
with broken joints and firm to the correct levels
o Where necessary, lightly and evenly firm turfs with wooden beaters and keep the
bottom of the beater clean of accumulated soil at all times
o Should shrinkage occur, fill the open joints with fine garden soil. Brush and Well
water in.
ESTABLISHMENT WORKS
(A)
Establishment works are those works to establish the plants and are to be
carried out during the Establishment Maintenance Period of 18 months.
(B)
Establishment period extends for eighteen months from the date of
completion of the Works certified by the architect in accordance with the said
conditions and runs concurrent with the maintenance period
(C)
Dead plants. To be replaced at own expense. Dead plants are considered dead
if it is seen dying or is ailing during this period as a result of bad material or
neglect.
(D)
Replacement Planting. Replace dead or ailing plants or plants no longer
conforming to these specifications within two weeks of being identified.
(E)
Damaged plants due to Vandalism. Contractor is not responsible for replacing
the dead or damaged resulting from the circumstances beyond his control and
in any event no claim shall be considered until submitted in writing.
(F)
Damaged Plants due to Natural Disasters. Contractor is not responsible for
replacing the dead or damaged resulting from the circumstances beyond his
