Candidature for the position of Application Chemist - Industrial Coating. (Ref. #PRMT00494)
at DSM Coating resins in Waalijk
Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,
I am Kranthi Bannuru, graduated with a Master of Science in Industrial Chemistry in a joint degree
between Technical University of Munich and National University of Singapore in July 2014. With a
strong focus on materials science and synthetic chemistry throughout my studies and hands-on
industrial research experience in the field of battery materials, I would like to be considered for the
position of adhesives development chemist for automotive systems at Dow in Horgen. With an
international experience in chemical and materials science in both academia and industry, I wish to
further my professional endeavors at Dow Europe in the adhesives technology area.
During my Masters studies, I worked in the field of electrochemistry investigating battery materials
and successfully completed an internship and Master thesis accordingly. It gave me the opportunity to
work in interdisciplinary research environments in close collaboration with fellow researchers. My
thesis required me to work independently on certain ideas and in organizing my experiments while
collaborating with the group members in aspects related to material synthesis and characterization.
The compilation of the obtained results and a well documented dissertation has further helped me to
learn the intricacies of effective communication of research.
While pursuing my bachelors study, I worked on two internships in synthetic organic chemistry, which
helped me to gain the essential research aptitude and skills of dealing with chemical synthesis. I was
first introduced to the field of polymers during a summer internship, where I worked on the chemical
modification of synthetic elastomer Brominated isobutylene-co-para-methylstyrene (BIMS) for
improved adhesion properties. It helped me to understand the principles and some techniques involved
in polymer chemistry. To procure a broader knowledge on nanomaterials, besides my curiosity and
innate zeal to explore diverse cultures, I pursued an internship in the area of carbon nanotubes
(SWNT) at the University of Groningen in Netherlands. Apart from the skills and an enriching
experience gained during the internship, I firmly believe it as a step towards analyzing my own
adaptability and approach towards learning newer research themes.
The Industrial Chemistry master program has extended my knowledge in chemistry and materials
science in combination with chemical engineering and business aspects. Therefore, my core modules
range from supramolecular chemistry, construction chemicals, organometallic chemistry, molecular
and heterogeneous catalysis, bio-processing and reaction engineering to industrial chemical marketing,
business administration and IP law. The coursework in Singapore, complemented by an internship at
TUM CREATE and Master thesis at SGL Carbon has helped me to advance my skills and gain handson industrial R&D experience.

In the course of my education, I have successfully completed the research tasks in varied fields related
to chemical sciences in specified time frames. It strengthens my belief on learning the principles and
analytical techniques with agility in diverse work cultures. The Development Chemist position in the
area of adhesives technology at Dow is of particular interest to me because of its involved holistic role
in product development. I am keen on learning and working in a role that helps me grow
professionally and personally. Since the position demands interplay between technical and commercial
aspects of product development, I believe it will help me to learn and hone my skills in a challenging
environment. I believe that working with an international team at one of the best research centers at
Dow that has pioneered cutting edge research shall nurture an inquisitive bent of mind and an
appreciation for research towards development of novel products. Overall, a position at Dow will
enable me to combine my passion for materials chemistry with my international orientation and
education. With an interdisciplinary research background in multicultural environments, I believe that
I will best fit in the group and I look forward to further my professional career at Dow in Switzerland.
Sincerely

Kranthi Kumar Reddy Bannuru
