Introduction

Malaria is unique among diseases because its roots lie so deep within human
communities. Malaria beliefs and practices are often related to culture, and can
influence the effectiveness of control strategies; thus, local knowledge and practice
related to malaria is important for the implementation of culturally appropriate,
sustainable, and effective interventions.
Unfortunately in some rural areas even today it is believed that 'mata chad
gayi hai' and they resort to jhaad-phoonk. In such cases chicken pox
becomes fatal as it leads to secondary infections such as bronchopneumonia and goes untreated."We have trained ASHA workers as also
ANMs to educate, inform and provide basic treatment for chicken pox in
villages. As required we are also sending teams in some areas. A team
headed by Dr Asha Bhargav has just returned from Arjun Patti village in
Handia tehsil after check-ups," said the CMO.
Mariamman is the main South Indian mother goddess, predominant
in the rural areas of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra
Pradesh and Maharashtra. Mri is closely associated with the Hindu
goddesses Parvati and Durga Her worship mainly focuses on
bringing rains and curing diseases like cholera, smallpox, and
chicken pox.

Stanza wise explanation

Song of the Rain by Khalil Gibran is an autobiography of the rain. Rain is
personified in this poem and is described as something divine and
characteristic of gods.
-The rain says that when it cries, the hill can be heard laughing and when the
rain humbles, the flowers are seemed to be making merry. Similarly, when the
rain bows, everything seems joyful and elated in happiness.
- On one hand, the voice of the thunder declares the coming of rain while on
the other the rainbow announces its departure. The rain is the cycle of earthly
life which takes birth at the feet of natural elements and ends under the wings
of death.
-The rain says that the field and the cloud are like lovers and the rain acts like
a messenger of mercy between them. It quenches the thirst of the fields and
cures the sickness of the clouds.
- Therefore, rain sighs from the deep sea of love and affection, it awakes and
rises like laughter from the colorful fields and falls down like tears from heaven
of memories.
-The rain says that it looks like dotted silver threads which have been dropped
from the heavens by the gods. When it has fallen, Nature takes it to embellish
her fields and valleys.
- The rain says while it falls on the windows, it seems to touch the windows
with its soft fingers. The arrival of the rain is a welcome song but only sensible
souls can understand it.

- The speaker is the rain. It says that it is like a beautiful pearl plucked from
the crown of Ishtar (the goddess of fertility, love, war, sex etc) by the beautiful
daughter of Dawn. In other words, rain looks like pearls during dawn.
- The rain emerges from the heart of the sea and reaches the sky soaring with
wind. When the rain sees a field which needs rain, it immediately falls on it. It
cuddles flowers and trees in countless little ways.
- The rain says that it is the deep breath of the sea, the laughter of the field
and the tears of heaven.
SONG OF THE RAIN( Poetry )
- Kahlil Gibran
'Song of the Rain' is a beautiful poem appealing to the sensitive hearts
touched by the heavenly beautyof the rains. The poet, Kahlil Gibran
composed this poem as a eulogy in praise of rain and its affectionfor earth.
The poem is written in the first person, and rain itself is the speaker. Rain has
held a mirror to its identity and activity in the poem.
Rains look like 'silver threads' while falling on earth. It is a divine gift from the
gods to nature. Nature accepts this gift as a blessing to nourish and nurture
her 'fields and valleys'. Rains are as beautiful as pearls. Rain drops shine with
the white gleams of the pearls in the 'crown of Ishtar', goddess of fertility and
love in the Babylonian Pantheon.
Rains come down with showers of pleasure and joy for everyone and
everything. It makes the hills laugh, the flowers rejoice and all things feel
elated. Rain is a wand of magic with a transforming touch.
Rain, a messenger of mercy in the poet's speak, connects the field with the
cloud high in the sky. It fills in the void between the sky and the earth.
Raindrops quench the thirst of the earth and cure the blisters caused by the
heat of simmering summer. The heavenly blessing works as a
panacea( solution) to many problems.
The deafening voice of thunder announces the arrival of rains on earth, just
like a king's arrival is heralded by the beating of drums. The rainbow sprinkling

a handful of seven different colors across the blue surface of the sky after the
clouds disappear declares the departure of rains from earth.
Rain springs up from the deep of seas and oceans. Its soars to great heights
with the breeze and then, comes back to its source. Thus rain runs round in a
cyclic process. Out of its caring attitude towards earth, this natural
phenomenon comes down to nourish, refresh and rejuvenate flowers and
trees in a million ways. The verity is that not everyone can percept the
soothing feel, affectionate nature and caring attitude of the rain. The song of
the rain does not warm every heart. Only the sensitive hearts can be touched
by it.
