Vern May will officially start his new position

as Minnedosas Economic Development Officer
on Tuesday, February 17th.
By ASHLEY HANKS

ern May was recently chosen as Minnedosas new

Economic Development Offi cer. Having come from
the same position in Souris, he knows the challenges of
the position, along with what residents of Minnedosa are
looking for in terms of how he is going to take his position
here and make a difference to this community.
Born and raised in Souris, May comes from a well
travelled background after being a professional wrestler
for 20 years. Being Vance Nevada meant being an independent entrepreneur and self-promoter and making the
most noise on the smallest budget possible, stated May.
In the last three years as a wrestler, he held the position of Vice President of Economic Development, working with wrestling operations, talent relations, sponsorships and press releases. All of these things are challenges
and skills that are directly transferable to his current EDO
position.

Minnedosas New Rec Director

By ASHLEY HANKS

isa Parish is Minnedosas new Recreation

Director and is excited to
take on this role and to
try to make a difference in
this community. Lisa grew
up in Minnedosa from the
age of eleven and after she
graduated high school,
decided she needed to do
some travelling. Between
going to school in Calgary,
to back-packing across Europe to living in England,
Lisa has learned a lot of
new things and ideas that
can be brought to the table
in her new position.
When Parish moved
back to Minnedosa she
started her own business
selling Canvas Buildings,
which has done very well,

but has always wanted to

do something community
oriented. When she heard
that the Rec Director position was open, she jumped
at the chance to take it
over.
Lisa is looking forward
to keeping up with all the
activities already in the
works such as Canada Day,
the kids parade for Fun
Fest and the Day Camps
that will be held during the
summer. On top of the previously scheduled activities, Parish has some new
ideas for new recreational
movements such as Babysitting Courses, Hunters
Safety Courses, First Aid
Courses and more physical
activities in which she will
be working closely with
Healthy Active Minnedosa.

There have also been

people who have contacted Lisa in regards to Painting Classes which she will
be looking into so they can
be off ered to the public.
Parishs biggest goal for
this year is for the youth of
Minnedosa to have a positive experience with memorable events to attend and
for everyone to have fun.
Besides being the new
Rec Director, Parish is also
on several committees
within town including the
Fun Fest Committee and
the Community Development Corporation and
is hoping to get more involved as she settles into
her new role.
I want to be a breath
of fresh air for the community and to be the positive

and creative person with a

new outlook for the Town
of Minnedosa, stated Lisa.
I am open-minded and
want to work on our advertising so everyone will
know what we are up to
and can be part of the festivities.
A lot of people are
excited in the community to have the new fresh
ideas coming and Parish
wants to hear everyones
suggestions and has an
open door to anyone who
wants to come in and talk
to her. The Rec Office is
open Monday to Friday.
So, if you are in the neighbourhood, stop in and say
hi to Lisa and welcome
her.

Buddy Holly Tribute On Its Way

By ASHLEY HANKS

n a couple weeks, the

Minnedosa
United
Church will be host to a
Buddy Holly Tribute Band
that has been bringing
their energetic show to audiences throughout Manitoba and Saskatchewan for
over four years.
The band is made up
of three members, Tom
Dowden, Dylan MacDonald and Roman Clarke. I
had the opportunity to sit
down and talk with Roman
about his musical talents,
how the band got started
and what they are hoping
for when it comes to success.
Clarke came from a
musical family and was
introduced to the violin
at the age of seven, then

moved to the drums at

about nine years old. At the
age of 14, Roman started
playing with pit bands and
orchestras to get his musical talents heard, then was
off ered the opportunity to
play with a band for the
Buddy Holly Story play.
The play was put on by the
Seven Ages Productions,
produced by Mr. Buri from
Crocus Plains High School.
After having such an
amazing time and success

with the play, the band

started booking shows
separately and the CMA
Entertainment Agency became the bands agent to
get them more stage time.
Th ey currently do about
20 shows a year and are
booking their own stage
times and concerts, but are
hoping to get in at least 40
shows by the end of 2015.
We want to bring out
the demographic of people
that dont go to many mu-

sic shows stated Clarke.

Our show in Minnedosa
is part of our venturing out
into putting on our own
theatre show to small rural
communities and bringing
music to small towns.
Check out the Buddy
Holly Tribute Bands ad
in this weeks Tribune for
more information on the
show and where to buy
tickets. Dont miss out on
this unique group of musical talent!

Its About Time

After years of controversy and debate, I commend

the Supreme Court of Canada for its recent ruling to remove the ban on medically assisted suicide. I have never
understood why we as Canadians were not allowed to legally choose to end our own suffering if it was our wish
during affl iction with a debilitating disease or terminal
illness. If a pet is suffering, we want to end it with euthanasia, yet if a human being is suffering and they ask for
peace, it was not allowed and they had to continue to suffer until their natural death. This recent ruling is a huge
step forward for Canada!

Skate the Lake

The frozen over surface of Minnedosa Lake comes

to life this weekend as the ninth annual Skate the Lake
weekend takes place. At press time Wednesday, team
registrations were strong with 17 Mens, five Ladies, six
Novice, three Atom, five Peewee and four Bantam. Organizers are pleased that the youth registrations include a
record number (six) teams from communities other than
Minnedosa. This years Skate the Lake will be part of the
Hockey Manitoba 100th Anniversary celebration taking
place on Sunday. For this, there are eight Minnedosa
Minor Hockey teams as well as eight out-of-town teams
from Brandon, Carberry, Oak Lake and Rivers. From
the participating team numbers alone, it is obvious that
hockey and Skate the Lake bring a good number of people to our community. In addition to this, many spectators and supporters are expected to be in town this weekend. This weekend is sure to be a welcome boost for local
winter tourism and our business district.

Love in the Air

Tomorrow, February 14th, is Valentines Day. Did

you forget to plan something special for the love of your
life? No fear, there is still time! Do something nice for
them, taken them out to a local restaurant for breakfast,
lunch or supper or pop in to one of our local businesses
and see what special Valentines gift you can purchase
so you dont end up in the doghouse, all alone on Valentines Day!

DARRYL A.HOLYK - PUBLISHER AND EDITOR

Little Too Late To Do The Right Thing Now

By DARRYL HOLYK

ast Thursday afternoon, while in the Wheat

City, I drove past the Target store. What I saw
shocked and angered me - the parking lot was completely full! This was something I do not recall seeing since the U.S. retail giant came to Brandon just
a few short years ago. Usually, the Target parking
lot is sitting nearly empty with only a small number of vehicles parked near the building. So, why
did an overflowing Target parking lot anger me you
may wonder? Well, for the simple reason that it appeared obvious that the majority of people did not
support the store on a regular basis while it was
here struggling to survive in Canada, but now that it
is closing and there is a liquidation sale underway,
everyone is rushing out and lining up at the door
in search of bargains. What a sad society we live in!
What I find even sadder is the amount of people
grumbling and complaining that in the early days
of the liquidation sale; the discounts are not gigantic. It seems many people think Target should pretty much give away all their merchandise and lose
even more money on their venture into Canada.
Again, I wonder how many of these complaining,
selfish, bargain seeking customers were actually
regular Target supporters?
What I witnessed in Brandon last week reminded me of a conversation I had with a former
Minnedosa business owner a few years back. During the closing out sale for his business, he told me
his business had been busier than he had been in
the past few years. Had this sort of steady customer
flow been experienced on a regular basis, he most
likely would have remained open and not have

been forced to close shop. He was also shocked at

the number of people who were telling him how
sorry they were to see him closing and what a loss
the closure of his business would be for our community. Yet, many of these same people had very
seldom entered his store to support his business.
This very same scenario has happened time and
time again with businesses that are closing.
We all want businesses and merchandise variety in our communities, but in reality how supportive are we once these businesses are here? Certainly, every business has its share of faithful customers
who truly appreciate and support them, but sadly,
there are many other potential customers who, for
some reason, simply overlook certain businesses
and take their spending dollar elsewhere.
It has been stated time and time again and I
will state it once again check out what ALL of your
communitys businesses have to offer. If you dont
step foot in their door on a regular basis, how will
you know what new merchandise they may have to
offer? Without the support of regular customers no
business can survive, whether its a small privately owned operation in downtown Minnedosa or a
North American retail giant like Target. If we want
to retain the businesses we currently have and attract new ones to our communities, we all need to
shop local whenever possible and spread our hard
earned dollars around to as many local businesses
as we can, not only during discount and liquidation sales, but on a regular basis. If we dont, we
cant complain when yet another business closes
its doors. Remember, once they are gone, they are
usually gone for good!

Doctor Shortage a Severe Situation

Letters to
T
the Editor
Dear Editor,

he NDPs failures in
health care have not only
led to a broken promise, but
have put residents of rural
communities across Manitoba at risk through dangerous shortages of doctors and
nurses.
The number of vacancies for doctors in some health
regions is alarming and has grown, long after the NDP
government pledged that every Manitoban would have
access to a family physician by 2015. Despite that NDP
promise in 2011, several Manitoba communities have no
doctors whatsoever and therefore no access to quality
health care.
The shortages are severe. The Northern Health Region has 15 doctor vacancies. The Interlake-Eastern RHA
is short 30 physicians and the Prairie Mountain Health
Region needs more than 40 doctors.
The crisis has led to community forums in several
towns as citizens try to find ways to deal with the problem.
Since forming the government more than 15 years
ago, the NDP has lost 2,300 physicians to other places
and has the worst record of doctor retention in Canada.

2005 Some 600 people gathered at Minnedosa

Lake last weekend to take part in our first attempt at
Winterfest. Some of the attractions included snow golf,
snowmobile rides, skating, hockey and frozen turkey
bowling. A chili cook-off saw 24 hot, spicy and delicious entries.

The shortage of nurses

is also serious in Brandon
and areas of rural southern
Manitoba. The Prairie Mountain Health Region has a vacancy rate of nearly 15 per
cent, amounting to 278 unfi lled positions. The resulting
overtime hours and burnout
among nurses and health care aides will prompt even
more of them to leave for other jurisdictions.
Filling some of these positions with private nurses,
many of them from outside Manitoba for millions of dollars, is all the NDP has been able to do to address the
problem. They have no other solution.
Manitobans need a government that takes their
health care seriously, and not one that only ignores this
crisis leaving many patients with no access to care.

ithin the last six months, we have had a letter and

two requests in The Minnedosa Tribune in the Editors column about the mess of paper on the floor and
counter in the Post Office.
Mr. Sopuck, our Minister of Parliament for the Conservative Government in Ottawa, sends pamphlets every

request is for our Conservative friends to speak to Mr. Sopuck and ask him not to waste our taxpayer dollars on his
propaganda.

Most of what you can

One of the greatest misunderstandings is that its

Mays focus will be on
how to take his past experiences and ideas and tie

Building The Profile Of The Minnedosa Foundation

By ASHLEY HANKS

innedosas
Anya
McNabb, has been
busy building awareness
of the Minnedosa Foundation. Anya, a student at
Red River College, is taking a two-year program
in Creative Communications. McNabbs major is
in Public Relations and
was given the task of doing an Independent Professional Project which
consists of a year long
process, advisory meetings for process updates
every two weeks and putting together a project in
which she will present to
a board.
Students in the past
have done projects such
as written books, made
documentaries and the
like, but when proposing
her project, Anya was giv-

en the idea of doing something in regards to public

relations which then led
her to the Minnedosa
Foundation.
Knowing little about
the Foundation, Anya immersed herself in learning
all she could and developing a new website www.
minnedosafoundation.
com, newsletters, posters,
starting social media sites
and a promotional video.
McNabbs intention is to
showcase the Minnedosa
Foundation and all they
do as a Charitable Organization, get people to know
that the Foundation exists and to have residents
know more about them as
well as how more people
can get involved.
Th e Foundation is a
result of donations, which
have mostly been supplied when money has

been left in wills and estates.

Hopefully, with
all this new information
about the Foundation online, there will be a younger audience of donors.
Minnedosa Foundation awards annual grants
in which community
groups and individuals
that have projects to better the community can
apply in the month of October. In November the organization has a luncheon
where they present their
grants to recipients.
There are many projects which the Foundation
has been a part of over
the years. Some of these
have included youth soccer, youth baseball, recreational projects, arts projects, heritage, Minnedosa
Drama Club, Minnedosa
Fun Fest and Rockin the
Fields. There is also an an-

nual scholarship awarded

to one MCI graduate, the
Verna Averill Scholarship.
The foundation supports
a broad spectrum of projects each year, but I didnt
realize just how many
projects they have helped
out, stated Anya. I think
its neat how many people
they are able to help. Keep
your eyes open for Anyas
posters or take a look
through the foundations
new website for information on how you can help
your community!

At right,

the promotional
material she has
created for the

Foundation.

hen it comes to being

a new parent, there
are a lot of people who
are more than willing to
give you all the advice they
think you need. There will
be times you wont necessarily agree with the advice
but you smile and nod just
the same and continue to
do what works for you and
your new little family.
Here are a few tips that
may be beneficial for some
new parents
1. Supermom/dad do
not exist! You may feel you
need to do everything and
be everywhere, but that is
simply not always the case.
Take care of yourself as
well as your newborn.
2. Ask for help, and
accept help when offered.
There will be times when
you just need those 15
minutes to take a shower
or eat without a baby in
your arms. Your friends
and family are always willing to get some baby snuggles so take that offer!

We were delighted
to hear that Lana Watson
and Alan McDougal won
the English Mixed Doubles
curling
championship
and will be headed to Sochi, Russia for the World
Championships. Lana is
the daughter of Dale and
Roberta Watson of Strathclair and has lived in England for several years. This
two-person curling sport is
relatively new, but you may
have seen it played during
the Continental Cup se-

ries over the last few years.

Lana also played competitively with Lois Fowlers rink
while she lived in Brandon
and we believe Lois Canadian Senior Ladies rink
will be attending the Senior
Mens and Ladies World
Championships, also being
held in Sochi.
Strathclair
Dinner
Chorus performed their
fi nal concert of their 25
Years of Harmony season
at the community hall on
February 7th. Not many
of the performers that performed in the first concert
would ever believe this
group would be singing
together for this long but,
plans are already starting
for the 26th season of song!
It began as a money-maker
for the Theatre to help with
the many expansions that
have taken place over the
dramas 30+ successful
seasons. A special presentation was made by Neil
Gamey to their long time
pianist Linda Earl who is retiring, this has been a huge
commitment over many
years for Linda.

Parent
Tips
Continued from
Page 8
3. Sleep while baby is
sleeping. Sleepless nights
can take a toll on new parents and one of the best
ways to get sleep is to sleep
while baby is sleeping. The
house chores can always
wait!
4. Never compare
yourself to another parent.
Each person is an individual and each parent will
do things differently, so
always know you are doing
what is best for you.
5. Never feel guilty
about taking time for yourself away from your baby.
You will always need time
to re-coup and re-group,
so take the time you can to
relax.
Even with all the advice and child rearing
books out there, there has
always been one piece of
advice that has stuck with
me throughout the years
- slow down and embrace
every moment as it can
go by too quickly. Also,
kiss and hug your kids often and tell them you love
them everyday!

SAM CHEMERIKA
JANUARY 10TH, 2015

EVELYN NORA DELGATY

FEBRUARY 11TH, 1923 - JANUARY 29TH, 2015

With family by his side, our Dad Sam Chemerika passed away
at Country Meadows Care Home at the age of 93.
Dad was born in the R.M. of Rosedale to Nicholas and Annie
(Woywada) Chemerika. In 1942, at St. Marys Ukrainian Catholic Church in Mountain Road, he married Mary Kostenchuk.
In 1943 he was drafted to the army, serving overseas for three
years. Upon return, he and Mom went on to farm in the R.M. of
Clanwilliam and raised four children.
Dad was a school trustee for Lund School, a member of St.
Marys Ukrainian Catholic Church, a member of the Legion
(Erickson Branch), a member of the Knights of Columbus and
drove school bus for Rolling River School Division for 10 years.
He thought it was great having his son and two of his grandchildren on his bus.
Dad was predeceased by his wife Mary, son Nicky, son-in-law
Lawrence Labiuk, parents Nicholas and Annie, in-laws Eli and
Lily Kostenchuk, brothers Jack and Roy, brothers and sistersin-laws, Eli Sawchuk, Charlie Sandulak, John Sokolik, Ernie
Marcischuk, Katie Chemerika, Mildred Chemerika, Thelma
Chemerika.
Dad is survived by his son Larry (Sherian) of Neepawa, daughters; Gloria Labiuk and Linda Guspodarchuk (Ed Witzke) both
of Winnipeg, 16 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. Also
sisters; Mary Sawchuk and Rose Sandulak, brothers;Walter
(Lucienne), all of St. Catharines, ON, Nestor (Bettty) of Niagara
on the Lake, ON, William (Josie) of Neepawa. Also by numerous
in-laws, nieces and nephews.
Dad had a great sense of humour and enjoyed talking to
everyone and anyone. He made many friends in his life time.
He held a strong love and passion for farming and continued
this with his sons. Even after he sold the farm to Nicky, moved
to Minnedosa and then to Neepawa, he would still come to the
farm and operate the tractor or combine. When he could no
longer manage this, he would still come to the farm and watch,
especially at harvest. Like they say, You can take the boy from
the country, but you cant take the country from the boy.
Rest in peace Dad we will forever miss you.

It is with deepest sadness that we announce the passing of Evelyn

Nora Delgaty after a short stay in the Assiniboine Palliative Care Unit
in Brandon. Her last days there were spent with family, love, laughter, stories and hymns. Funeral Service was held at the Minnedosa
Conference Centre, February 4th, 2015 to celebrate the life of Evelyn with family and friends and graveside service at the Minnedosa
Cemetery.
She leaves to remember and cherish wonderful memories, the
love of her life, her loving husband of almost 72 years Thomas Neil
Delgaty, daughter Doreen, son Randy (Sherry) and daughter Marie
(Ken).
Evelyn was blessed with many grandchildren: Gerri (Rob) Pringle,
Gail (Alan) Hiebert, Lesley (Neil) Armstrong, Bryon Drader, Nancy
Heide, Diane (Andrew) Saramaga, Blair (Sue) Drader, Holly Mitchell
(Don Turnbull), Tracy Delgaty (AJ McLennan), Christine (Shawn)
Rose, Brad (Tara) Delgaty, Jodi, Ryan, Pat & Amanda Fehr.
Evelyn will hold dear her 17 great children that always brought
a sparkle to her eyes: Erin, Nicholas, Karyssa, Bailey, Rachael,
John, Karen, Mac, Tommy Neil, Mia, Tori, Maddie, Jackson, Bryant,
Joshua, Victoria and Adrian.
Younger brother Cecil Jury from BC as well as brother in law Ralph
and two sisters in law Rita and Myrna.
Evelyn was honoured to have been chosen as God Parents to
Katrina and Sarah Dalrymple and will be lovingly remembered by
many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and neighbours.
Evelyn was predeceased by her parents John and Mabel Jury, son
Dale and daughter in-law Linda.
Evelyn was born at home on the family farm where she grew up,
and attended 12 years of schooling at the Minnedosa South School.
After High School she went on to further her education at Wheat
City Business College in Brandon and after graduation she took her
first job as a Stenographer with St. Johns Law Office in Minnedosa.
On February 6th,1943, Evelyn married Thomas Neil Delgaty whom
she shared her life with for the next (just shy of) 72 years and a life
time of memories. Days after her marriage, her beloved Tommy was
deployed overseas for almost 3 years. She remained living with her
parents and continued working. Once Tommy returned they moved
to Kelvington, SK where she also worked at a law office until their
first son was born. A short time in Arborg, MB and then back to
Minnedosa where life on Del Minto Acres began its history.
Evelyn raised four children, Dale, Doreen, Randy and Marie on
Del Minto Acres and for years helped run their dairy operations. She
spent many hours/years volunteering and completing any project
that was offered to her.
In 1974 they dispersed the dairy and Mom kept the home fires
burning while Dad was away furthering his education at the University of Saskatoon preparing for the next years of their lives in His
chosen field of Ministry. Eleven years of residence in Oak River and
many lifelong friends and endeavors.
She loved her music whether it was playing the piano, the organ,
the fiddle, maracas, or even the bells; it was done with love, pride
and joy. And to those who brought entertainment to the house, no
words could express the gratitude but her smile said it all. And the
baking, the barn dances and more baking and a camera somewhere
amongst it all.
Another picture, another memory, another reflection to help us
heal the emptiness.
By caring she made our community a better place and so graciously the giving of her time. Time for Horticulture, time for Ag Society,
time for the Canvas Back Duck, time for typing (typed every single
sermon for TN), time for children, time for Sunday School.... The list
is endless but not forgotten and could go on and on about the numerous tasks that her hands have completed with much love.
During retirement years she continued to enjoy her gardens, keeping the cookie jars full, flowers and not to mention the gladiolus by
the acres (if you showed up during glad season, you were sure to be
sent home with an armful of beauty).
Everything was done with heart and soul by this wonderful lady we
are proud to call WIFE, MOM and GRANDMOTHER!!

MARTHA DUTCHAK
(nee ANDRUNIAK)
AUGUST 3RD, 1917
FEBRUARY 8TH, 2015
It is with great sadness that
we announce the passing of
Martha Dutchak at the age of
97 years. Martha passed away
at her residence in Brandon,
MB. Mom was born at Mountain Road to parents Michael
and Ann Andruniak. She was the
third of nine children and left
home at the age of 14 to work on various
farms. She met and married Michael Gregory at the age 20 and
resided in Minnedosa there after. Martha raised six children
and worked at various jobs to supplement the family income.
Mom loved her family and always concerned herself with their
welfare. Martha was predeceased by her husband Michael in
1973, her 2nd husband Harry in 1988, an infant daughter Ruthie,
her son Derek in 1958, daughter Verna in 2005, and son Stanley
in 2009. She is survived by her brother Bert and sister Sophie,
both of Winnipeg, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Mom and Baba will be greatly missed by her sons Wally (Shirley) of Brandon, Bert (Valdine) of Calgary, Peter (Rosemarie) of
Cardston, son-in-law Jack Szerterniak of Winnipeg, as well as 16
grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
Martha was a gentle, somewhat shy person who preferred a
quiet life. Her great passion was her garden which she planted
every spring and produced enough to supply vegetables to the
whole neighbourhood. Her flower beds were immaculate and
no weed would dare grow there. Every year she promised her
garden would be smaller next season. It never was and she continued gardening into her 90s.
After the passing of her husband, Harry, she shared her home
with her youngest son, Stanley, until his passing. She lived
alone in her home until failing health required her to move, first
to Minnedosa Hospital and then to Rideau Park in Brandon.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 14th, 2015
at 1:00 p.m. at Minnedosa Funeral Chapel with burial to follow
in the Minnedosa Cemetery. Donation in Marthas memory
may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
Minnedosa Funeral Service in care of arrangements. Reverand Elgin Hall officiating. Eulogy will be delivered by Hayley
Gregory. Jessie Gregory will be playing the violin.

May the winds of love

blow softly
and whisper in your ear.
We will always love
and miss you
and wish that you were here.
For all that life has given us
and all thats left to do,
We know no greater treasure
than the days we had
with you!!
Forever in our hearts,
Tom Delgaty and Family.

OBITUARIES
TERRY MARSHALL
APRIL 20TH, 1950 JANUARY 6TH, 2015
Terry Marshall was born in Virden to Irene and Angus
Marshall. He passed away in his home of a massive heart attack.
Terry (aka Joe Bush) was a father, grandfather, brother, uncle
and friend to many. He grew up with 2 younger brothers, Barry
(Virden, MB) and Randy (Red Deer, AB) in Virden where his love
of horses first began and continued until the end. Many hours
were spent in the saddle with friends or in the winter on the ice
with a hockey stick.
Terry - The Cowboy started a hockey career in Virden, he
continued it to Brandon when scouted by the Wheat Kings as a
defenseman and wing for four years and then in the 7th round was
drafted to St. Louis. He spent the 70s in various leagues ending his professional career in the Eastern league in Jersey. During his time with the Syracuse Blazers he
was excited to have the opportunity to be in the all-time favourite movie Slap Shot starring Paul
Newman. He finished his hockey career in Manitoba playing with the Russell Rams, Neepawa
Natives and Rapid City Old Timers.
Terry was blessed to have three daughters Kelly-Jo, Lacey and Jerri-Lynn. He instilled his love
of horses, rodeo, competition and dedication into them. They were going down the rodeo trail
before they were out of diapers and are now actively involved in a variety of associations and like
their father are forces to be reckoned with in the arena. They could also be seen driving the teams
helping out their Dad.
Terry was actively involved in the Heartland Rodeo Association and the Manitoba Team Roping Association. He was often on the road to the Lake for his therapy session with Lenny. Not
much couldnt be worked out from the back of a horse swinging a rope. He was a well known
pickup man for the CCA / MRCA / HRA / MHSR associations. Something he was proud to do and
was always willing to share his knowledge. He never had a job, how do you call it a job when you
love what you do! He was always busy doing something, be it checking cattle for brands, custom
roping, the PFRA, picking up it usually involved cows and horses.
Terry is survived by his daughters Kelly-Jo Marshall (Ollie Turel and grandchildren
Emma-Dee Marshall, Kaedyn, Karson, Kalli, Koltyn Turel)(Melville, SK); Lacey Marshall (Derek
Glenn)(Strathclair, MB) ; Jerri-Lynn Marshall (Kirk Thompson)(Brandon, MB) ; (Mother) Irene
Marshall (Virden, MB) ; Brother Barry Marshall and nephew Justin Marshall (Virden) Brother Randy
Marshall (Red Deer, AB) and nieces Ashley and Jodi and families, many friends and of course
Buddy his ever faithful travelling companion. He was predeceased by his father Angus Marshall
in July 1984 and son Dane Marshall in November 1990.
A celebration of Terrys life was held at the Brandon Victoria Inn on Saturday, January 24, 2015
at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heartland Rodeo Assoc. An ongoing
memorial award will be determined in his honour. Terrys dream was to keep the association a
place for families to rodeo. Grandparents competing with their grandchildren, a place for the
young to start and the old to finish.
Cremation has taken place. Minnedosa Funeral Service in care of arrangements.

JUDY (JUDITH) WALKER

AUGUST 17TH, 1949 - JANUARY 31ST, 2015
Judy passed away at the Minnedosa Health Centre with family at her side.
She is survived by her loving husband David, daughter Alicia (Graham) Dighton, son Jaret
(Laura Tanguay), mother Edith Johnston, and grandsons Joshua, Lucas and Brady Dighton. Judy
is also survived by her brother Clifford (Bernadette) Johnston, sister Shirley (David) Shadlock, as
well as numerous brother and sister-in-laws, nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Judy was predeceased by her father Neil Johnston, father in-law Robert Walker, and mother
in-law Lillie Walker.
Judy was born in Hamiota, MB. Her youth was spent in Boissevain, MB and following her high
school graduation she attended U of M and graduated with her Home Economics Degree. While
teaching in Neepawa, she met Dave Walker and they were married August 25th, 1973 at Boissevain United Church. She continued some terms of teaching in Erickson and Minnedosa after
her marriage. The next chapter of Judys journey was very important to her. She welcomed Alicia
to her family in 1979 and later gave birth to Jaret in 1982. They were her cherished treasures. Judy
enjoyed a quiet, fulfilling life in Minnedosa for 41 years with her beloved family.
Judy enjoyed the outdoors, camping, hiking, cross-country skiing, and gardening. She adored
her flowers. Indoors, many hours were spent sewing, crafting, baking, and of course nurturing
her children.
A celebration of Judys life was held February 12th, 2015 at Minnedosa United Church, with
Reverend Natasha Pearen officiating. Minnedosa Funeral Services was in care of arrangements.
If so desired, donations in memory of Judy may be made to a charity of your choice.

A bouquet of beautiful memories,
sprayed with a million tears,
wishing God could have spared you,
if just for a few more years.
It does not take a special day,
for us to think of you,
each Mass we hear,
each prayer we say,
is offered up for you.
We cannot bring the old days back,
when we were all together,
our family chain is broken now,
but memories live on forever.
