Low Ambient Conversion Kit for -40 Cooling Operation

Low ambient modification is to allow inverter systems to operate to -40 in cooling mode without causing machine
failures or cooling loss to the conditioned space when this procedure is implemented correctly. This procedure will
not enhance heating mode operation.
This procedure is designed for use by appropriately licensed and certified trades people under prevailing codes,
ordinances, acts and regulations for the jurisdiction that they are in.

Each low ambient conversion kit has three accessories and installation consists of three parts:
Part I Installation of PQCA0 Control Adapter
Part II Installation of Front Wind Guard
Part II Installation of Rear and Side Wind Guards
Ensure electricity is off during this procedure.
To select the three low ambient kit accessories that your model requires, download our 2014 catalogue at

Part I

Installation of PQCA0 Control Adapter

Ensure electricity is off during this procedure.

Remove top cover and front panel of the outdoor unit. It is acceptable to
hinge the front panel on the right side.
Fasten the PQCA0 to the bulkhead inside the compressor compartment
above the compressor with the provided self drilling screws as shown.
Route the PQCA0 wire to the control board. Ensure that the wires will
not rest on any pipe surface that may cause abrasion of the insulation
and shorting at a later time. Fasten wire safely inside unit.
Locate the factory-installed air thermistor at the outside rear of the coil.
It is the only black-tipped thermistor on the outside rear of the unit.
Follow this wire backwards to the circuit board and unplug.
Plug in the adapter board from the PQCA0 into the board and plug the
thermistor into the adapter as shown.
PQCA0 adapter comes pre-set at 20. Do not change.
Mount the copper sensing bulb at the bottom of the unit directly below
the factory air thermistor.

Part II

Installation of Front Wind Guard

Position wind guard evenly over the outlet grill and ensure the screws are
not installed through an internal bulk head , wiring or refrigerant pipe.
Drill a pilot hole for the screw with a 1/8 drill bit, and install the supplied
screw. Repeat for the additional three remaining mounts.

Part III

Installation of Rear and Side Wind Guard

Do not substitute screws. If you lose a screw, use the same type
and length or damage to coil or piping might occur.
Use a block or other object to rest wind guards at correct height
for installation.
Correct heights circled below.
Align side wind guard as shown below.
Fasten front edge of side wind guard with provided self-drilling
screws.
Install rear screws of side wind guard, then remove to allow
installation of rear wind guard using those holes.
Install rear wind guard with screws in the holes you just drilled.
Fasten rear wind guard on lineset end with provided screws.
Restore power to unit.
