What's New
ArcGIS Explorer Desktop 2505 includes the following enhancements:
1. Check your computer's ability to run ArcGIS Explorer Desktop. You can download and
run a small executable from System Requirements Lab (SRL) to analyse your
computer's score for running ArcGIS Explorer Desktop.
2. Check the system requirements.
3. Uninstall any previously installed builds of ArcGIS Explorer Desktop, ArcGIS Explorer
Desktop Current User, ArcGIS Explorer Desktop SDK for the Microsoft .NET
Framework, and ArcGIS Explorer Desktop Expansion Packs.
Download and Install ArcGIS Explorer Desktop
1. Download ArcGIS Explorer Desktop build 2505.

2. Once the download is complete, the setup program will start automatically.
3. Each download provides the opportunity to install ArcGIS Explorer Desktop either for all
users on your computer or only for your current user account. Select your preferred
option, keeping in mind that to develop add-ins with the ArcGIS Explorer Desktop SDK
or to use the Fonts Expansion Pack, you must select the all users option.
Note: Administrator privileges are required for installing ArcGIS Explorer Desktop for all
users.
4. Click Next. The setup program will guide you through the installation process. More
information is available in the ArcGIS Explorer Desktop installation guide.
Download the ArcGIS Explorer Desktop SDK to Develop Custom Add-ins
1. Make sure you have ArcGIS Explorer Desktop build 2505 and a supported version of
Microsoft Visual Studio installed. The ArcGIS Explorer Desktop SDK install
guide provides more information regarding supported platforms and development
environments.
2. Download the ArcGIS Explorer Desktop SDK for the Microsoft .NET Framework. Refer
to the ArcGIS Explorer Desktop SDK install guide for any questions regarding the
installation process.
Download Expansion Packs for Extending ArcGIS Explorer Desktop Functionality
Download the Data Access Expansion Pack for ArcGIS Explorer Desktop build 2505 (all users
option).
Download the Data Access Expansion Pack for ArcGIS Explorer Desktop build 2505 (current
user option).
Download the Projection Engine Expansion Pack for ArcGIS Explorer Desktop build 2505 (all
users option).
Download the Projection Engine Expansion Pack for ArcGIS Explorer Desktop build 2505

Note:
Administrative privileges are required to install the Microsoft .NET Framework.
ArcGIS Explorer Desktop can be installed with other Esri products on your machine. The
ArcGIS product versions supported with ArcGIS Explorer Desktop are 9.3.1, 10.0 and
10.1.
It is strongly recommended that you exit all Windows programs before running the
ArcGIS Explorer Desktop setup program.
For a successful installation of ArcGIS Explorer Desktop, existing ArcGIS Products
installed on your machine must be closed and ArcGIS Services must be stopped.
If ArcIMS is installed, before installing ArcGIS Explorer Desktop, stop the ArcIMS
Tasker, ArcIMS Monitor and ArcIMS Application Server (in this order). Go to
Control Panel >Administrative Tools > Services > Select ArcIMS Tasker > rightclick Stop, do the same for ArcIMS Monitor and ArcIMS Application Server.
After ArcGIS Explorer Desktop is installed, remember to restart any ArcGIS Services that
you stopped prior to installing.
ArcGIS Image Server Restart in the following order Esri Image Server, Esri
Image ServiceProvider, Esri ImageServerReporter
Before installing ArcGIS Explorer Desktop, verify that your system meets the system
requirements. If you are downloading ArcGIS Explorer Desktop, the installation will start
once the download is complete. For all other scenarios, double click Setup.exe to install
ArcGIS Explorer Desktop.
Installation type
Two installation options are presented when the setup is launched: 1) Anyone who
uses this computer (all users) and 2) Only for me (user name). The "anyone who uses
ArcGIS Explorer Desktop can be installed without a user interface (UI) by running the
setup using Windows Installer command line parameters. If you are planning to install
ArcGIS Explorer Desktop silently, see the available command line parameters below.
