GREETINGS

Cleveland Central Catholic High Schools

Stakeholders and Supporters!
The ground has been laid in our Advancement Office to
add capital and planned giving as major priorities; this as
Central Catholic studies its future capital and long-term
operational needs.

The 2013-2014 school term was a dramatic year of change

and firsts for Cleveland Central Catholic High School:
We are celebrating the 45th Anniversary of our founding
that brought together four parish high schools to continue
the mission of urban Catholic education in Cleveland.

The Calcutta Auction netted nearly $100,000 for tuition

assistance to help our neediest students and family; thats
the highest net in the eleven history of this signature event,
thanks in part to the record 24 corporate sponsors.

Our enrollment increased to nearly 600, the capacity for

which our building was designed. Prospects of exceeding
600 in the near future seem very possible.

Our boys football squad made it to the state playoffs for the
first time since 1982.

100% of our 128 seniors graduated and 85% have been

admitted to four-year universities and two-year colleges
where they were offered more than $2 million in scholarship
grant assistance.

It was a blessed year! This annual Advancement Review is

our opportunity to inform and update our very generous and
dedicated supporters and partners regarding the progress of
advancing Cleveland Central Catholic. This snapshot of our school
provides a glimpse at the experience of our students as they
pursue their future within the loving and caring atmosphere that
Central Catholic provides. Of course, this is all made possible by
the support and dedication of thousands of people like you.

Central Catholic has expanded its advisory period to include

monthly mentoring meetings with each teacher meeting
with 12 to 15 students individually to review their academic
performance and academic profiles. Each student now has
a designated teacher to connect with regularly.
Our staffing and commitment to our special needs students
has increased to serve students who appreciate the warm
family spirit of our school and are developing into confident
young adults.

We wish to express our gratitude to you for your investments

of financial support, volunteer hours, prayers and good works.
We acknowledge our corporate and foundation partners and
the Diocese of Cleveland for their leadership and outstanding
support of our mission. We look forward to seeing you here to
witness the great good that you have made possible for our
very deserving students.

A member of Central Catholics first graduating class of 1970,

John Peca, was named Chair of our Advisory Board. John
received the CCCHS Outstanding Alumnus Award in 2012.
Our consolidated grand reunion for Central Catholics alumni
and the alumni of its four founding schools was a great
success with more than 300 coming together, many for the
first time in decades.

Please consider introducing family members, friends and

associates to visit Cleveland Central Catholic High School.
This is a special place where dreams actually do come true.
Thank you and may God bless your generosity!

Major facilities improvements have been ramped up on

campus with the replacement of our school buildings roof,
but only after three previous roofs were removed dating back
to 1921. Other major projects are planned going forward.

Gratefully,

Our process of Creating a Shared Vision for a Bright

Future Together has gotten off to a remarkable start,
as hundreds of faculty, students, staff, board members, and
Central Catholics friends and partners in the community
have responded to a web-based survey, focus groups and a
formal visioning exercise. Our stakeholders are engaged in
determining the course of CCCs future.

John A. Peca
Chair, Advisory Board

Bishop Richard Lennons advocacy for Central Catholics

mission and services was evident when he referred to our
school as a gem of the Diocese of Cleveland and met
privately with four students from each grade. His desire
to connect with them and his willingness to share at a
personal level is something they will take with them into
adulthood, noted Sr. Allison Marie, Principal.

How Can I Help CCCHS?

Sisters of Notre Dame Receive Corporate Philanthropy Award

Leo Hyland, President of Cleveland Central Catholic (CCC),
presented Sr. Margaret Gorman, SND, Provincial Superior of
the Chardon Province, with CCCs Corporate Philanthropy
Award on November 16th at the Wasmer Ironman Center.
Sixty-eight people were on hand to celebrate and express
their thanks.

There are currently six Sisters of Notre Dame serving at CCC

in various capacities:

Sr. Margaret says, Probably the most touching aspect of

receiving this award was seeing just how many people are
dedicated to the mission of Central Catholic: faculty, staff,
board members, donors, community partners. It really does
take a village and there is a wonderful supportive village
grown up around CCC.

Sr. Mary Antoinette Krejsa, SND, Teacher

Sr. Margaret continues, Historically, our mission of

education was to serve the underserved, to contribute our
efforts to those who could not afford an education. Today,
we describe our mission as education for transformation,
and CCC certainly has a transformative impact on students.
I heard some wonderful stories at the awards dinner from
teachers! Sr. Allison Marie and the Sisters who work at CCC
really identify with the mission of CCC, and the province as
a whole supports their ministry proudly.

We are thrilled to be a part of this vibrant school and

community. I am impressed with the creativity and
resourcefulness of everyone who comes together to support
Central Catholic. Unlimited resources are never enough to
make a good school. Talented and dedicated people willing to
extend themselves for students are what make Central such
an outstanding school, describes Sr. Margaret.

Sr. Allison Marie Gusdanovic, SND, Principal

Sr. Karen Dolovacky, SND, Teacher
Sr. M. Josephe Fernandez, SND, Guidance

Sr. Kelley Rush, SND, Intervention Specialist

Sr. Mary Seton Schlather, SND, Teacher
These women represent the largest group of Sisters of Notre
Dame serving at one particular school in northeast Ohio.

Leo Hyland, President of Cleveland Central Catholic,

reflects, In addition to the time and energy the Sisters
of Notre Dame have given to CCC, it is also important to
consider the effect their charism has on our culture here.
Truly, CCC takes our students as we find them, and raises
them through faith formation, academic rigor and service
to others. In this time-tested way, our students rise to their
potential thanks to the blessings of good teachers and the
sense of community that comes from a traditional Catholic
education. Classic SND approach!

Talented and dedicated people

willing to extend themselves for
students are what make Central
such an outstanding school.
- Sr. Margaret Gorman, SND

Hyland continues, The Sisters of Notre Dame continue

to bless CCC with financial support. Most years, they
provide our families with Julie grants annual scholarships
in honor of St. Julie Billiart. CCC needs this funding
desperately, as do our families. So, thanks in large part
to the dedication and commitment of the Sisters of Notre
Dame, CCC has a bright future.

How Can I Help CCCHS?

Advisory Board Chair John Peca 70
Four things make
John Peca tick. Faith,
family, friends and food
the four Fs, says
the Cleveland Central
Catholic Advisory Board
Chair with a broad grin.
I attend 6:30 a.m. Mass
every weekday. Why?
Because I have a lot to
be thankful for, and I
need all the help I can
get. And he wears his
heart on his sleeve when
discussing Cleveland
Central Catholic. I love
the school; the administration, faculty, benefactors and students
are wonderful. Its just a special place.

As Cleveland Central Catholic celebrates its 45th anniversary,

Peca reflects on what differentiates this high school from
others in the region. The mission of Cleveland Central Catholic
remains the same since it opened. The faces have changed,
but the mission and its benefit to the students have stayed
constant: Give inner-city students a Catholic education and
a chance that they otherwise would not have, Peca states
matter-of-factly.
Serving on the Central Catholic board was a no-brainer for the
successful gentleman. What I can do for Cleveland Central
Catholic has a tremendous, immediate benefit that I can see.
Were basically saving lives and giving kids a chance they
otherwise would not have, he passionately describes. This
school is a place of safety for a lot of these kids. Many get their
meals here. On the streets, they are exposed to drugs, gangs
and violence. This school gives them security and hope. Often,
this is their last chance.

Peca has served on the Cleveland Central Catholic Advisory

Board for 13 years. His connection to the high school is
strong, having graduated from the first class of Cleveland
Central Catholic in 1970. Upon graduating from Central
Catholic, he earned a BA in accounting from John Carroll
University in 1974 and a law degree from Case Western
Reserve University in 1977.

11th Annual
Calcutta Auction
March 19, 2014

The Calcutta Auction is Cleveland Central

Catholics signature fundraising event- our
own March Madness. An annual event
featuring a silent auction, raffles, dinner
and live auction. The 11th Annual Calcutta
Auction ushered in a new era. Simplified
raffles, more exclusive silent auction items
and record attendance helped propel the event
to the largest net income in the event history.
All proceeds directly benefit students through
tuition assistance programs, which are utilized
by 100% of our student population.

A cold wet day didnt stop the

Central Catholic Family from
coming out to do good in the
community. An extension of the
community service requirements in
the academic area, CleanUp+Clams
brings students, alumni, parents and faculty into the
community for a morning of service followed by a
Clambake reception. Projects ranged from general clean
up to painting, landscaping or specific improvements to
areas of the Slavic Village neighborhood we call home.
All proceeds from the event benefit our students through
tuition assistance programs.
