The Prince Bernhard Nature Fund (PBNF) Grants up to EUR

25,000 for Conservation Projects in Africa, Asia and Latin


America
Deadline: 1 February 2015
The Prince Bernhard Nature Fund (PBNF) is currently
accepting grant proposals from organizations working to save
critically endangered flora and fauna in the tropical and subtropical regions of Africa, Asia and Latin America. The Fund
provides up to EUR 25,000 to implement project.
The applicants will be notified of funding decision by June/July
2015.

Eligibility Criteria
The application must demonstrate clarity and urgency of
the conservation case.
Application should be made for direct contribution to the
utilization and development of local capacity.
The amount of funding and/or conservation action (policy,
community work) should be catalyzed by PBNF.
The mid and long term sustainability of the results
pursued by the project i.e. how will the results be sustained
once the PBN Funding will have been fully used should be
clearly mentioned.
Applications must be written in English language.
Request for project support should not exceed four (A4)

Pioneer Grants
The pioneer grants seeks to support a specific initiative
focusing on an individual key population at higher risk such as
men who have sex with men (MSM), sex workers and injecting
drug users within an individual country.
Pioneer Grants can be multi-year, and do not have a prescribed
award amount.

boundaries.
Grass-roots activities deployed on a local community: Workshops and
outreach programs to inspire the people to think about how people living in
the far away countries are related to their own lives, or to encourage
development of local activities in which people think globally, and act
locally.
Oak Foundation: Funds for Environment/Climate Change

The Oak Foundation accepts applications projects can be USD 25,000.
The Foundation funds civil society organizations that address issues of
global, social and environmental concern. The foundation has an annual
grant-making budget of over USD 150 million.

Eligibility criteria
Individuals seeking scholarships or tuition assistance for undergraduate
or postgraduate studies are not eligible to apply.
Religious organizations for religious purposes, election campaigns or
general fund-raising drives cannot apply.
Except in special circumstances, the foundation does not fund initiatives
under USD 25,000.
How to apply?
Oak Foundation generally accepts proposals through solicited requests
made by program, yet it accepts letters of enquiry around the year. It
generally takes two months to nine months from submission of an enquiry
to get final approval.

The Crowder-Messersmith Conservation Fund for local Projects in
Developing Countries

The Crowder-Messersmith Conservation Fund is accepting grant
applications from organizations in developing countries for projects that will
benefit human, plant and animal communities of a particular habitat in an
ecologically sustainable manner. The grants provide seed money to
communities and individuals whose projects have not attracted major
support from other sources.
The Crowder-Messersmith Conservation Fund honoring the two
conservation leaders Orville Crowder and Don Messersmith helps small,
local conservation and/or education projects in developing countries. The
Audubon Naturalist Society (ANS) is administrating the fund since 1999.
Grant request can be made for up to $2000 for a year period.

Examples of past grant recipients


1. P. Anandan of the Foundation for Research and Sustainable
Development in Madurai Tamil Nadu, India to study fruit-eating and
insectivorous bats, particularly the Salim Ali Fruit Bat (Latidens
salimali) in the Western Ghats Mountains.
2. Lilly Ajarova of the Chimpanzee Sanctuary and Wildlife Conservation
Trust, Uganda to develop a community awareness program for
the children and fishing communities of the Koome Islands in the
Mukono District.
3. Emily K. Lind of the Ceiba Foundation for Tropical Conservation,
Ecuador as part of a larger project to survey birds in Ecuadors dry
forest coast. Grants were provided for printing and distributing
laminated bird identification cards to local youth groups, particularily in
Tabuga, Camarones, and Jama.
4. A small group of dedicated Cape Verdians on Santiago received a
grant for their project to rehabilitate, protect, and support eco-touristic
use of beaches, lagoons, and the surrounding areas.
5. In Fiji, BirdLife International received funds from the CrowderMessersmith Conservation Fund to train residents of the island of Gau
to monitor and protect Collared Petrels.
6. In Kenya, a local endemic bird, the Taita thrush, is critically
endangered. With a Crowder-Messersmith grant, Kenyans in the Taita
Hills region trained forest guards and educated children about the bird,
while working with local communities to promote sustainable land use
in the Taita thrushs habitat.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants and projects must be based outside the US or other
developed country and include local population.
United States researchers planning work in foreign countries must have
at least one local collaborator and consider how the project will benefit
the local communities.
Proposed project must have lasting significance to local residents,
protect threatened or endangered species or habitats, and must have
public education component.
Preference is given to applicants who have a record of prior
conservation action relevant to their proposed project.
Note: Applications will be accepted from 1 December 2014 to 1 February
2015.
