Speech Communication
Title: Cry if you have to
Specific purpose: To let the audience to express their sadness if they have to, instead of
holding it in.
Central Ideas: We have to cry or shed our tears if we feel sad to prevent severe mental
illness, to end the sad story that we have been through, and to become a stronger person.

Introduction:

III.

Make a gimmick to grab audience attention.

I have experience in suffering a great depression as a result of keeping the feeling in
myself and dont let it out.
My intention is to let the audience to cry out their feelings as it could affect
them mentally and physically if they hold it in.
The topic for my speech today is really vivid and clear which is Cry if you have to.

Body
I. Main Point 1
a) We could suffer a prolong mental illness if we dont let out our feeling.
i. Crying is actually a self-therapy to comfort us.
ii. It is suggested by most psychologists.
iii. Keeping our tears is like keeping our emotions.
iv. When we keep something for a long time, it might explode someday
and it is dangerous for our mental health.
b) This mental illness might lead us to do something beyond our imaginations.
i. Many thoughts will come out
a. Thinking of committing suicide
b. Hurting others
c. Involved in vandalism
ii. Crying doesnt require us to have a place, a suitable time or event to
let it out as it is only significance if we do so at the very moment when
we are sad.

II.

Main point 2
a) Next, is to put an end to our sadness.
i. If we do not cry, we will feel as if we are hanging in the mid air

i.
ii.

We couldnt see the future as bright as what we used to see

We will always strangled by the sad memories
a. Crying will sweep away that sadness that ties us.
b. We will feel better as those tears will flow together with the
sadness that we have.

iii.

In movie we always look into how it would end.

a. If we dont cry, we will feel frustrated, as the end of our sad
event is not there yet, to make us feel relieve.
There is always sequel of the movies that we watch when it ends.
a. Same case here. If we dont end the event, we couldnt move
on and stand up firm again to face the harsh world.
After we cry, the sorrow would be terminated, and we would gain
back our sense and start to have a new life as the end is reached
already.

Main point 3
a) We are not crying because we are a loser, but because we want to become a
stronger person.

i.
ii.

iii.

People will notice it if we cry.

When people see we cry, they will feel the grief, and they eventually
will try to help us to stand firm again.
a. If we hold it in, how would they know?
b. They will try to comfort us.
c. Sharing the sadness could lessen the sorrow that we feel
d. Some might be thinking, why share sadness
e. I will question them, why not?
f. We always share happiness with people, and if they are really
our friends, they wouldnt mind to be with us to comfort us
when they know we are down.
Plus, people who make us cry will also feel guilty.
a. A good chance to get his or her attention again
b. We will become the main priority now
c. We could gain his or her apology.

iv.

v.

If they do not, at least they could see that what they did, actually
cause misery to someone else life which then, they will not repeat the
same mistakes again to other people.
If we suddenly burst after we hold it in, than that is called a real loser.

Conclusion
I.

I will put an end to the speech by read a stanza of a poem:

Dear son, I was contented when you were born,
As you gave life to my dearest darling,
Life, I mean a new-fangled life,
Life full of smiles and laughs and sneers,
But when you cried, mom was worry,
Worry that you might be unhappy,
But mom was shocked, to see you smile after your tears fade away.

II.

Summarize all the points:

a) Cry because we to become a stronger person
b) We want to put an end to the sadness
c) To prevent severe mental illness

III.
IV.
V.

I reinforce again by assuring them that we should cry if we have to, as we, as a
normal human beings, have our own limits to retain our sadness.
Plus, God creates tears as a medium to relieve us from our mixed emotions.
Before we turn berserk and all, better we set them free by crying.
