Project Title:
Casing Seat Selection and Casing Design
Mentor:
Mr. Shashank Shekhar, Senior Drilling Engineer, CIL.
Description: The project involved Casing Design of Mangala Heavy Producer Wells. Generic
Mangala Field Data was used for selecting the Casing Seat. Uniaxial, Biaxial and
Triaxial load cases were considered for final grade selection of different casings as per
company policy and design factors. Verification of Design proposed and comparison
with existing design was done on Stress Check (Landmark EDM Suite).
Field Visit: Visit to Drilling Rigs JE#18 and WFT#807 in Aishwarya and Mangala fields.
Overview of the various processes during drilling of a well such as Coring, Casing, LOT,
Cementation, BOP pressure testing, Directional Drilling equipment, TDS and Rig
Systems was given.

Project Title:
Study of HOLE CLEANING MODELS for DEVIATED WELLBORES
Mentor:
Mr. Arun Singh Chandel, Asst. Professor, UPES
Description: The project included detailed study of various factors that affect Hole Cleaning in
Deviated Wellbores and analysis of models proposed for the calculation of Critical Flow
rates, slip velocity, flow velocity and cuttings bed height. Overall effect and regulation
with respect to Rig Hydraulics was considered.
MINOR Project
Project Title:
Mechanism of Top Drive Drilling
Mentor:
Dr. A.P. Mukherjee, Asst. Professor, UPES
Description: The project discussed the working of Top Drive System. It involved study of types and
parts of TDS. A comparison with the Rotary table and Kelly system was done and the
advantages of TDS were discussed. A working model of Top Drive was submitted at the
end of the project.

Project Title:
Possibilities of Carbon Capture and Sequestration in India
Mentor:
Dr. Anil Kumar, Chief Engineer (Reservoir), ONGC, Dehradun.
Description: It includes specifications of Capturing Processes, Identification of high profile CO2
emitting sources, transportation of CO2 through proposed Pipeline Networks via NTPC
power plants in India and related Geologic Storage Mechanisms with respect to
sedimentary basins of India.
