Kerry Wood Nature Centre

Red Deer, AB

An exploration of natures
ever-changing story
Kerry Wood Nature Centre is the interpretive hub of Red
Deers treasured Waskasoo Park. The Centre has been an
engaging exhibit space for decades. Visitors can explore key
environmental elements of the river valley and aspen parkland,
and interact with local conservation challenges.
The City of Red Deer contacted AldrichPears to redesign
the Centres exhibits. Working with project stakeholders
and interpretive staff, APA devised an evocative design
concept inspired by the form of a book, complete
with thematic chapters and interactive pages.
The design pays tribute to the writing career of prominent
local author Kerry Wood. Interconnected ecological
chapters organize interpretation of the local environment
in the exhibit space. Visitors can interact with naturethemed exhibits, anchored within larger open book forms
that shift in appearance with the changing seasons.
