What are Universal Axioms?

There are certain life truths (e.g. “the only constant is change”) that guide people to a
maturity level which produces happiness and success. Let’s discuss exactly how you have
behaved in ways that are in conflict with these truths, causing you unhappiness and a
dissatisfying life. Once these topics are covered in detail, we will teach you how to live in concert
with these truths and find security and a joyful life.

There are five major axioms that guide people to success, regardless of their
circumstances. Three are listed below and the fourth and fifth are explained in subsequent
chapters. The first three are as follows:

The only constant is change.

You are what you think.

Happiness is the most effective motivating factor in the human condition.

Many times our readers ask who established these axioms and who says they are axioms
anyway? We did not come up with these ideas ourselves. Baldwin Research Institute is a research
organization. All the material you find in the following pages was thoroughly researched as well
as implemented in a program called the Jude Thaddeus Program® at the St. Jude’s Retreat House
in NY state. The axioms are the culmination of researching hundreds of different cultures and
religions from all over the world. We boiled down the positive commonalities they all shared.
The following articles and blogs encompass the commonalities that are found to be beneficial to
people in all of these cultures and religions.

Let’s begin:

The most likely result of a person stepping off the roof of a 50 story building is death
upon impact. If we were to ask a group of individuals why the person died, there would be a few
common answers. The most common reply would be that the impact killed the person. Although
that reply rings of truth, it is, nonetheless, grossly inaccurate. Similarly replies like “The fall
killed him,” or “the speed of the fall killed him” also sound credible.

Although each of these statements shares some level of truth, each miss the actual root
cause of death. The fact is that the person stepped out into thin air either intentionally or
accidentally. Either way the result is the same. The instant the building was no longer supporting
the weight of the person the predictable law (truth) of gravity took over. As in all cases, the law
of gravity did not care whether the person did not understand the danger or the person made a bad
choice, or the person was simply careless and irresponsible. The root cause of death was the
person’s lack of understanding or lack of respect for the law of gravity. Or another possibility
is that the person wanted gravity to do what it does.

Whatever the case, the law of gravity would have also applied had the person not stepped
off the roof. It would have been the force of gravity that kept the person on the roof. In this
instance, gravity would have served as a highly beneficial force.

Next consider that our muscles would atrophy and become weak without the force of
gravity pulling on our bodies. This would cause considerable ailments and physical problems.
This fact has been proven through our space programs. Astronauts who spend weeks and
sometimes months in weightlessness must rebuild their muscles and retrain their bodies. When
they return to Earth they are measurably weaker than when they left. However, someone does not
have to go to space to be weak or out of shape. A person who does not exercise is weaker than
someone who does.

Both a sedentary person and an active body builder live in the same world. Both live
under the same universal law of gravity. But each makes different choices as to how they
perceive and use gravity. Once the law is understood and accepted, people can then make
decisions to use and manipulate the principle to benefit their lives as in the case of a body builder.
Or, they can make the choice to be passive and not use this force to their ultimate health
advantage as in the case of the sedentary, overweight individual.

Body builders, runners and other athletes understand that gravity experienced through the
resistance of their weight has a positive physical, mental and emotional affect, while those
individuals in weightless space or those who live a sedentary life benefit little from this incredible
power.
Body builders’ muscles grow and tone with their increased manipulation of gravity. The
root cause of their finer physique is the law of gravity accompanied by an attitude of acceptance
of that law and a physical demonstration of that acceptance. In this program you will need
acceptance of these three axioms if you expect to grow in happiness, maturity, and productivity.

While the body builder understands, accepts, and embraces the law of gravity, the
unhealthy, overweight individual makes the choice to see gravity as a burden. Gravity becomes
something of a nuisance and for extremely overweight people, it can become impossible to
manage. People who make the choice to perceive this force as a nuisance are in for a rough time.
The nuisance (gravity) refuses to yield. Many people with this negative perception say things
like, “God, I wish I didn’t feel so bad all the time. I have to lose some weight.” But then,
tomorrow comes and there they are on the couch eating potato chips and watching Wheel of
Fortune. They concentrate on their problem, wishing the problem would simply vanish. When it
does not vanish, they may feel guilt and self-hatred. This thought process demonstrates a
fundamental lack of willingness to change.

Fully developed adults accept that certain truths exist, whether they are the three
universal axioms mentioned earlier, society’s laws, or personal codes of ethics. All of these
positive rules or laws can guide people to greater levels of happiness. Individuals who are
unwilling to modify their thinking see these codes as hampering their desire for instant
gratification, or what they want now. This attitude thwarts efforts to achieve adulthood. But
this can change with a simple choice to become a different person. We hope you can make this
choice and begin the process of positive personal change.
