Chapter 3 - Summary

A human mosaic

Canada is a country with great culture. About 30 ethnic groups, and the
government has up to a ministry - Ministry of Multiculturalism - which seeks
to integrate these different groups. It appears that Canada's largest ethnic
groups are the Anglo-Canadians and French Canadians. In fact the Angles,
include different people of British origin: Scottish, Welsh, English and Irish.
The British-born group corresponds to 40% of the Canadian population, and
the total Canadian population, 85% live within 300 km from the border with
the US.
An example of a typical Canadian family would be fictitious Bell, Scottish
and belongs to the working middle class origin. Inhabit the suburb of a
capital or large city in a nuclear family with husband, wife and two children.
The house is mortgaged, with 3 or 4 rooms, and they have two cars, one
used by Mr. Bell to go to work in an industry that's supervisor, and the other
stays home, which Ms. Bell uses to go to the supermarket, take the children
to school, or other activities.
The Bell are not rich, but live comfortably with a similar style with the US,
but have certain differences, such as to pay higher taxes, but also provide
greater benefit. Some examples of these benefits are health care services
and seguridades the unemployed, free of charge and government coverage.
The middle class in Canada makes up the majority of the population.
Doctors, engineers, lawyers and other judges are part of the upper middle
class in Canada. They have bathing suits income and power, but not boast,
for conserving the Canadian style, discreet. But this power of greater
purchasing becomes noticeable in their designer clothes, which apesarem
not call attention, show that higher income. Moreover, most of them have a
second home, cotteges on the shores of the lakes. The main house is
spacious and located in the suburbs, or as has been changing, close to
shopping centers. Members of the upper middle classes make touring car
trips, sometimes to tropical beaches. Their children attend schools, and
when they are really good situation, attend private schools, which are few in
Canada. And prepare to after attending universities, which are also not
many in the country.
The upper class, that actually leads to the country's economy is made up
of about 2000 people. Many of these are traditional families of British origin,

which retain some of that lifestyle. But there are also new millionaires that
emerged with the riches of oil and gas in new lands of the West. The old
traditional British elite is not very accustomed to display, sporting. The new
rich of the West do not share much of this style, like excel.
In Calgary, in the state of Alberta, is a place to see what is the dream of
Canadian prosperity. The old Calgary, a post mounted police, grew through
agriculture and is known as the city of cowboys. But his new prosperity is
due to the enrichment with oil and gas. An example of success and
prosperity is to a Scottish lawyer who bought land in Alberta and enriched
with your investments and watch your profits do a wealthy Canadian. This
Scottish sees the other habits as he and those who should be followed, as
well as other Canadians from other sources they see their habits as the
right. But a study of the 1960s, made by sociologist John Porter, it was found
that most of the Canadian elite is approximately 80% of original traditional
British households. But this scenario has been changing in recent years, can
be seen in other ways if look in more modern times.
