KEY OPERATING REQUIREMENTS

Anti-rotation Brackets The torque sub diameter is 18 and Anti-rotation bracket has to provide clearance for the Torque Sub.
Torque Subs are made of stainless steel and it is important to ensure proper break in and doping of threads for power tight make-up.
Torque Sub is assembled with CDS tool in shop prior to transport to wellsite.

WIRELESS TORQUE/TURN
MONITORING SYSTEM FOR
USE WITH TESCO CASING
DRIVE SYSTEM (CDS)
AND TOP DRIVES OF ANY
MANUFACTURER

ESCOs TesTORKTM Wireless torque monitoring

system combines state-of-the-art wireless
connectivity with the latest computer
technology that permits accurate monitoring of both
torques and turns when making up connections with
top drive systems using TESCOs revolutionary Casing
Drive System. This system is field proven and used
exclusively by experienced TESCO technicians, and is
suitable for operations with virtually all top drive
systems. This system is independent of any top drive
signals. The system offers accuracy, ease of use, quick
rig up/rig down times, and provides the highest level
of quality assurance for connection assembly and
performance.

control. There is no need for the conventional dump valve
operated with power tongs.
Controls and data recording provide for good audit trail of
connection make-up.

A running tally of casing run is achieved by entering the

casing length when prompted by the system, If a joint
connection fails it will not be added into the string.
Automatic flagging allows an accurate history and diary of
make-up events and prevents loss of discrepancy data and

at intervals determined at the job site. This is a standard
practice also used for calibrating Top Drive Torques.

Benefits
Operating efficiency with fast rig up and rig down times. No cables
to rig to torque or position sensor. Transmitter and receiver can be
separated by up to 150 ft. Transmission at UHF frequencies avoids
interference in RF rich environments.
Torque sub sensor is calibrated in laboratory and measurements are very
accurate. If necessary torques can be verified on rig floor. The torque sub
can be used to check accuracy of top drive torques used on drillers panel.
Can be used in CE/ATEX Zone 1 or Class 1/Div. 1 hazardous areas.
Quality is enhanced as connections not passing pre-specified assembly
criteria (torque, turns, time) require a forced pass by operator with a
recorded comment.
For premium connections, automatic marking and reporting of shoulder
delta torques facilitate rapid evaluation.
Questionable joints are automatically flagged when makeup occurs
outside preset parameters. Connections can be force passed but the
system prompts the operator to document comments, which cannot
be changed after the connection is passed. Comments can also be later
added.
Accurate tension data aids in reaming operations.
Data Recording and Resolution
Data recorded includes torque vs. turns and torque vs. time, individually
or in combination. RPM is recorded.
Standard system uses proximity sensors that measure 120 pulses per
turn, where every pulse is equal to 3 degrees rotation. Higher resolution
using an encoder providing approximately 4,000 pulses per revolution is
also available.
Joints are counted automatically and a running tally is provided. Joints
including a failed connection make-up will not be added, preserving
an accurate tally.
Comments may be added for any joint.
Pipe parameters are entered into the system prior to the start of a job
and modified anytime thereafter. A changed parameter is flagged.
System generates data and viewer files that are copied to a CD for post
job record. Hard copies can be printed from either the computer or CD.
Automatic flagging provides an accurate history and diary of the jobs
and prevents loss of discrepancy data for later reference.
Data can be reported in Imperial or SI units.
