816 Rivadavia perf 11½, 3rd Printing 1865: 15 c. sky blue horizontal pair and 10 c. green
single, used on registered 1865 cover, some internal repairs, addressed to Mendoza.
Adhesives cancelled by fine strikes of circular "Admon De Correos San Luis" in blue-green
and three strikes of framed CERTIFICADA at edges of cover. Receiving signature on front
panel of cover dated 15th August 1865 at Mendoza. Small part of cover missing at upper

821M Wreck Cover 1936 (April 11): Port of Spain, Trinidad, PanAm Flight FAM Route 6, Miami-
Rio crashed on take-off; envelope from California to Buenos Aires, stamps washed off and
showing on reverse "Recibo En Mal Estado" (Received in bad state) label tied by arrival
cds, endorsed "Avion Accidentado / Panair". Only one other cover recorded cacheted at

partial reconstruction of sheet of 50 types including some pairs and a strip of three; 1 p.

franking covers (2) and 2 p. blue used (2). Also three Latour reprint blocks of ten. Condition

"Correio / Potosi" cds in black. One toned perforation but a scarce stamp on letter.

with oval Trieste arrival (Jan 18, 1876). One pair crossed by file fold which does not detract

panel, mailed from Talcahuano to New Bedford (thus probably a whaling letter) bearing

Talcahuano cds in red of despatch above and reverse with "Callao" British P.O. cds (June13),
thence via Panama (June 20) with "Panama/Transit" cds and large '12' handstamp in black.

rate (3x28 c.) bearing rouletted 1877 2 c. orange horizontal pair, 10 c. blue, marginal imprint
20 c. green and 1878 50 c. lilac all tied by segmented cork cancellations in black. Santiago
cds below in violet and reverse with Valparaiso transit cds. On arrival in Italy the cover was
annotated in manuscript "30 pf." in red crayon being the credit due to Germany. Some toning 21+23+

925 The Callao “FRANCA” Label. 1849 (April 2 and February 21): Outer letter sheet from
Callao to Lima bearing yellow label handstamped “FRANCA.” in red (20.5 x 4.5 mm), sold
by the Callao Postmaster only for mail to Lima at 1 real each. This cover was mailed on the
same day as the Eitner example (Corinphila sale 158, June 2009, lot 4015); and is matched
with a further entire to Lima dated in February (after the label was authorised) and struck
with the identical “FRANCA.” handstamp in red denoting the pre-payment, but endorsed at
top “2 a classe”. A remarkable and very rare pair of covers, with just 8 to 10 covers bearing

and Scott list this issue from 1871; both Jaretzky and Moll cite usages from May 1870.
