1. Introduction
This users manual is prepared with instructions on using both trial and full versions of NovoSPT app
for iPhone and iPad devices. This app is an iOS version of Novo Techs original Microsoft Windows
NovoSPT software which incorporates more than 285 SPT correlations to soil properties. In order to
download a Microsoft Windows version of NovoSPT please visit NovoSPT homepage.

2. How to Purchase NovoSPT App?

NovoSPT has an In-App Purchase feature. This means you
need to first install the app on your device and then
purchase the app by clicking on Buy & Unlock! button on
home screen (see section 4.2) or on Correlations screen
for unlocking all features. For pricing and additional
information please visit iTunes Store.

3. Technical Support
For technical support please contact us at support@novotechsoftware.com and we will get back to
you within 24 business hours. Please note that email support is provided to our paid customers.

4. Updating NovoSPT App

Our programming team works around the clock to add
more features and to improve the existing ones.
In order to check for an update click on App Store icon on
your device, then click on Updates tab. If NovoSPT is
shown on the list, an update is available. Click on Update
button in front of NovoSPT to initiate update process. This
may take a few minutes (see screenshots on the right).
By updating you will benefit from all new features
including new correlations added to NovoSPT database.

5. Using NovoSPT App

The following sections provide detailed instructions on how to use NovoSPT app.

5.1. Welcome Screen

This is the first screen you see when you run NovoSPT.
Tap on screen to proceed to the next page.

5.2. Home Screen

This screen allows you to use main features of NovoSPT
as described below:
New: Starts a new SPT correlation project. New projects
will be automatically saved when user enters all data
including project information, soil layers, and SPT blow
counts.
Load: Loads from your saved projects.
About: Shows end user license agreement and version
information.
Share: You can share this app with social media pages
and your friends.
Rate It!: Takes you to iTunes store where you can rate
this app.
Website: Takes you to Novo Tech Software website.
Help: Opens this users manual.
Register: Sends an email to us with your contact
information (see section 6 for more details).
Buy & Unlock!: This app is installed as trial version and
for demonstration, only correlations to Su are shown. In
order to use all correlations click on this button to
purchase the app and unlock all features of NovoSPT.

5.3. Loading Projects

By clicking on Load button on home page, this page is
shown. You will see a list of all previously saved NovoSPT
projects including NovoSPT app example.
In order to load the project click on its name.
In order to permanently delete a project from the
database, swipe and then click on red delete button.

5.4. Project Information Page

Enter project information as described below. This will be
used in report headers:
Job Title, Job No., Client and Location: Enter as per
project specification.
Units System: NovoSPT app supports both Metric (SI)
and English (US Customary) units.

5.5. SPT Blow Counts

Enter a list of SPT blow counts at different depths.
Correlations versus depth will be plotted at depths
entered on this page.
In order delete a row click on red cross buttons.
In order add more rows click on the blue plus button.
Overburden stress correction factor (Cn) can be chosen
from the list.
Note: please enter N60 on this page as NovoSPT app does
not apply basic SPT corrections on field blow counts.

5.6. Soil Layers

Enter list of soil layers on this page. NovoSPT mainly uses
this information to calculate overburden stresses (v and
v) at depths where SPT blow counts are entered:
Thickness: Enter the thickness of soil layer. Please note
that NovoSPT calculates top and bottom of layers based
on layer thicknesses.
Soil Type: All correlations in NovoSPT are categorized for
4 main soil types: Clay, Silt,
Sand, Gravel and it shows /
hides correlations based on the
type of soil at each depth. In
order to specify soil type, click
on blue arrow.
Unit Weight (): Enter total
unit weight of layer. NovoSPT
automatically calculates effective unit weights when
necessary.

5.7. Selecting Soil Parameter

On this page you can select the soil parameter for which
SPT correlations are needed. In order to select a
correlation, click on the checkbox to the left of the
correlation. Equation of each correlation is shown below
each correlation. On the right side of each row a color
legend shows the soil types for which the correlation is
valid. For example in this screenshot, correlations are
valid for Silt and Clay soils.
Click on the Results button to see the correlation results:

Note: All correlation equations on this page are shown in

Metric units. However, NovoSPT presents the results in
units system selected by user.

5.8. Soil Profile and Overburden Stress Plot

This page presents the following plots:
Soil Profile: Soil layers are shown on the left side of the
screen with a soil type legend at the bottom of the page.
Groundwater level is shown with a horizontal blue line
with a square at each end. Raw SPT blow counts (N 60)
and corrected blow counts (N1(60)) are shown in blue and
red, respectively.
Overburden Stress Plot: This plot is shown on the right
side of the screen and presents the effective (v) and
total (v) overburden stresses.

Print: Click to print the graphs.
Done: Click to return to Correlation page.

5.9. SPT Correlations Plot

This page gives the results of SPT correlation to selected
soil parameter. User can compare the results and apply
further engineering interpretation and analyses.
Note: A gap in SPT correlations plot implies that the
selected soil parameter is not available for that depth
range. For example, on this screenshot Su is not shown
between 11.5 ft to 15.5 ft because soil type if Gravel
between these depths and Su is not applicable to Gravel.

6. Registration
Whether you are a paid customer or are trying NovoSPT
app, it is very important to register your app. This way
we know you are interested in SPT correlations and we
can effectively communicate with you and provide
interesting offers with regards to our geotechnical
products and services.
Communication between you and Novo Tech is a key to
providing you with best services and without registration
we cannot do this. Registration is easy and quick.
Click on Register button on the Home screen (see section
5.2). This will open your default email compose page;
please fill in your full name, company and country, and
Click on Send button.
We will then send you a confirmation email shortly. Your information will not be disclosed to any
other organization and will only be used for communications between you and Novo Tech. Thank you
for registration.
