Square D Services offers two distinct types of inspection windows that allow you to obtain condition and status information of electrical
equipment without the need to remove equipment panels. These windows can be supplied in new Square D equipment or can be
retrofit into any brand of existing electrical equipment.
The H.VIR Comet infrared window is a patented transparent window that enables permanent access for inspection of electrical
components without disturbing operations. Specially developed for infrared inspections, the window is made of a glass-like material
that is transparent to infrared rays and allows hot spots to be registered by a thermographic camera. This second generation design
is a universal type that is compatible with either shortwave or longwave transmissions from any infrared camera.
While the H.VIR Comet infrared window allows for both infrared and visual inspections, the H.VIS electric eye viewing window is a
more cost-effective solution if only visual inspection is desired for a given application. For example, the H.VIS Electric Eye can easily be
retrofitted to enclosed electrical devices to help comply with NFPA 70E Article 120. It states that wherever possible, prior to working on
downstream equipment, visually verify that all blades of the disconnecting device are fully open.

without downtime.

Applications for Medium and High Voltage Equipment

Traditionally, inspection of low-voltage distribution equipment has driven the

infrared imaging industry because medium- and high-voltage equipment was
considered too difficult or dangerous to inspect. With the H.VIR Comet infrared
window you can efficiently and safely perform medium- and high-voltage infrared
inspections.

Finding load, connection, component fatigue or overheating and phase problems in 480 V and above equipment
affords big savings

By retrofitting the H.VIR Comet infrared window to your existing electrical

equipment, or specifying it on new equipment, you can simply comply with the
National Fire Protection Agencys (NFPA) comprehensive guidelines and regulations
governing this activity, including:
NFPA 70E focuses on protection from arc flash, protection boundaries and
personnel qualifications
Personnel must be attired in fire-retardant apparel when equipment is live
and panels are off
De-energizing equipment to take off panels and perform infrared inspection alters
the integrity of the results
