PROBATION junior is pleased to announce the release of its last issue of the 5th
edition. As we've grown accustomed, we promote and bring forward subjects for
discussion researched by young professionals preoccupied with the field of
criminal justice.
This edition focuses on subjects like: the detention conditions for juveniles in
France; the family environment of those who committed murders; the
psychological vulnerability of those new imprisoned; the community attitude
toward offenders; and prison language. The first and the last article have a
theoretical component, while the rest of the materials include empirical research.
The first two articles are written in French, while the other three, in Romanian.
The journal opens with a francophone thematic approaching the detention rules
for juveniles in France. In 2013 a new circular was implemented having a
pragmatic approach. The framework was linked to the organization of the
detention of minors. The present paper analyses the basic principles related to the
incarceration of juveniles, and highlights the contribution of this regulation.
Understanding prisoners involves understanding the family environment where
they come from. The second material identifies a series of risk factors for those
who committed murder, related to socio-demographic profile, living conditions,
and relationship with family members. The advanced proposals by the author
emphasize the need to correlate the measures taken in Romania, measures to
protect the life and integrity of an individual implemented in the European Area.
The third material highlights a subject with too little empirical coverage in
Romania, the mental health of those in prisons. The author aims to evaluate the
psychological vulnerability for 30 newly incarcerated males. The empirical
research has a double conclusion: the subjects with a high risk to develop
emotional disorders ranged a 60 percent on the DAS-A scale (respectively, 18
participants with attitudes predisposing to depression), and 96.7 percent on the
ABS-2 scale (meaning that almost everybody had a high vulnerability for
anxiety). The author cautions us that the percentages uncovered were rather high
and therefore, justify the need of psycho-social support programs for newly
incarcerated males.
The fourth article includes another important component within the criminology
sphere - the community. The fourth material raises the question whether the role
of the community, its attitude towards the one who commits an offense and his
reintegration into society is a major factor in lowering crime rates. The author
answers this question by tracking the psychological variables, the sociodemographic variables, and the relationship between these and the attitude
towards offenders.
And the last article presents characteristics of the language used in prisons by
offenders and staff. The author mentions that there is a type of non-verbal
language, and two types of verbal language and they intertwined. To understand

how a total institution works, it's essential to understand language because it is

vital for understanding human interactions.
Therefore, we bring into attention the 5th Volume, 2nd issue and we hope it will
