Be Anywhere
Communication Problems in Hospitals
Abstract
This paper will explore several issues or problems that I have recognized when attempting to
communicate with individuals who are under hospitalized care and have trouble communicating due to
various reasons. This paper identifies specific problems and elaborates on their cause and begin to
propose a valid solution that now is available with current technology among virtual reality and EEG
systems.
Introduction
Communication is vital to our daily life. It is critical while we are being treated for illness while being
hospitalized. Being able to express pain is a crucial expression for doctors to help diagnose an illness.
There are many people who have disabilities that can keep them from communicating this information.
It is possible to undergo new symptoms while visiting a hospital that could keep you from
communicating and away from family. However, Technology in present day is more advanced then we
would think, we can breach those communication barriers of people inside coma's or unable to talk.
Objectives
Our objective we want to spread the concept of be anywhere, we want to take people to new
places virtually and around the world. People should not be limited technology can take us any where,
and we want you be any where you want without daily limitation. Secondly, we want to open up
communications with those you naturally are unable to communicate. Everyone should be able to
express
Communication Problems
There are a lot people who have trouble communicating due too disabilities. Patients could also
fall none responsive during a operations. As well patient symptoms could cause them from visiting
family and missing opportunities they could have attended normally. Hospitals are the place were a lot
of missed opportunities occur due to being bed rested. I remember when a family member was sick for
two weeks. The week before he was so excited to be going to a concert he was longing to attend.
However, his visit to the hospital kept him from attending the concert. His miss opportunities of the joy
happens to more people then just him.
Solutions
I purpose a Be anywhere solution through the use of virtual reality and technology developed
by Tan Le. I reckon Facebook has already though about these concepts and might be the sole reason
they bought Oculus for two billion dollars. Giving the ability to use virtual reality by means of advance
cameras or virtual environments we can take people anywhere they want to go. We could set up
camera's at the concert my family member missed and using the oculus headset, it would feel as if he
was there himself. Hospitals would no longer be a trap but a luxury cruise to any where you want to go
given this technology.
We could even begin to communicate with people that have fallen into a coma. Tan Le
technology wold breach the non response gap between communication of people in such a state. EEG
headsets are able to recognize thought patterns which can eventually generate a line of communication
based on thought alone. As well as place the individuals who have fallen into a coma into a virtual

reality that could give the a new sense of presence while undergoing tests. This would allow patients to
gain a since a strength and line of communication to others virtually even though they can not
physically.
Resources
Given the technologies mention in this proposal, availability to a Oculus headset or other
means of 3D rending eye wear is vital. Also the purchase of Emotiv's EEG headset or some similar
programmable device. This will be used in conjunction with each other to simulate a virtual immersion
somewhere in the real world or in a virtual environment.
Video Talks
I have been a huge supporter of Tan Le and technology that she has helped developed. She
created a huge leap into understanding the brain and how it works. It order to first understand
something we need to monitor the patterns so that we can begin to understand how it works. Tan Le
and her team have already done it. They developed a headset the can monitor brain activity and have
become using that activity to control technology. Her work has been to help understand and begin to
find cures for brain driving illnesses . However, this technology can open up so many more doors.
Articles
Since Palmer Lucky has released the Oculus rift, virtual reality has been given a lot of fuel and
is expected to exploded over the next decade. It was recently bought out by the social media giant,
Facebook, which is going to take virtual reality and run with it. The Oculus will take communication to
the next level which mean were going digitally.
Method/Schedules
As these technologies were built by independent companies, this proposal's time line is
currently estimated to take around 20 months. This time allows us to build software around these two
independent technologies so they can be unified as input/outputs under one software. Schedule will be
broken into three phases: requirement gathering, development, testing.
Requirements Gathering: This phase will consist of a estimated 3 to 4 months to understand the
capabilities that the technologies have independently. So that we can assets any and all available
enhancement that can be gather when software allows us to use both technologies simultaneously.
Development: This phase will involve unifying the two technologies under one software so that
they can be used jointly to enhance the experience of the user, estimated to 10 to 12 months.
Testing: The last phase is to test for accuracy in the two technologies with the new software and
to find and correct any errors with both hardware and software components, will take 3 till 4 months.
Qualifications
Our team is currently certified to develop on both technologies independently have been
recognized as innovators by both companies in 2014. This project gives us the opportunities to embrace
the best of both for which we are so passionate. So far we have completed 4 similar major independent
projects involving advanced software technologies.
Management
Our team is a very diverse group of leaders who take on societies challenges to improve daily
lives. We consist of team of 9 Project Manager, four junior software engineers, two senior developers
and two computer engineers. Our team make up allows us to make face any software or electrical
challenges that we may face during the project.
Costs

As current market sits this project will cost around 2000 in equipment as we can simply our
own laboratory which will help cut costs drastically. Equipment would covert 2 sets of 3D rendering
eye wear and 2 sets of Emotiv EEG headsets. The project cost is estimated to cost 1 million for the 20
month long project.
Conclusion
Communication has a very exciting future, we really have no idea what the possibilities are
until we breach them. As innovators continue to push technology, virtual reality in conjunction with a
better understanding of the brain could lead to the Matrix. The be anywhere solution is solely limited
to the hospitals, that was simply an example, people can travel virtually from anywhere.
