Check_MK-Interface Overview
Check_MK is an expansion based on the existing Nagios monitoring system. The goal of Check_MK is
to conduct performance monitoring combined with the utmost optimized configuration management achievable by a high level automation range.
The interface between i-doit and Check_MK enables consolidating the configuration data and link
information between the CMDB and monitoring.
Manually managed, or automatically inventoried systems can be transferred from i-doit to Check_MK
and used as the technical basis for monitoring. In addition to basic information, such as an IPaddress/host name, other documentation data, such as locations, purpose, or prior host characteristics prioritization can be transferred to Check_MK as a host characteristic. This data is translated into
specific technical checks and dependencies; for example, if an object in CMDB is declared a test system only, the monitoring messaging system is deactivated. If CMDB Dsseldorf would be listed as the
object location, an automatic technical object dependency can be set in Check_MK by the Dsseldorf
VPN line.
In addition to providing the basic data for host queries the location structure documented in i-doit
can also be created in Check_MK. This allows an easy navigation through familiar structures or defining location- relevant regulations in Check_MK.
Real-time data concerning checks and the results can be read and displayed in Check_MK with the
Livestatus interface. This data may optionally be entered in the i-doit log book.
In addition, the information derived from Livestatus serves as an interface to connect information
from the real-time monitoring world with the logical service trees of the CMDB. The assignment of
monitoring-service checks to software or service assignments documented in the CMDB functions as
a transfer point. Reported monitoring interruptions can be analyzed based on the relevance of the
objects and determined as high priority for IT- or business services. For instance, if a MySQL-database
server is down, you can see at a glance that the CMR and the Intranet portal are affected as well.

Check_MK-Interface Summary:

i-doit exports host and host characteristics as Check_MK-configuration files.

Host characteristcs can be declared manually in i-doit or created automatically from CMDBattributes.
The location structure can be displayed as a Check_MK folder structure.
Livestatus-data can be displayed in i-doit and entered into the log book.
Monitoring-checks can be linked with CMDB software or service assignments to create a complete overview oft he entire service tree up to IT-/business services.

Technical Specifications
The interface for Check_MK is permanently integrated in i-doit from version 1.4. It has been tested
with Check_MK from version 1.2.4 and Livestatus from version 1.2.5.
Configuration files are created in Check_MK-native WATO-format and may be included as necessary.
The automatic graphic analysis of service checks, up to IT services is only available with the additional analysis-module.

FAQ
Who will benefit from the interface?
All users who are already using Check_MK or are contemplating to introduce a new monitoring solution.
Where can I find additional information about Check_MK?
Additional information is available from the

Will the interface for additional Check_MK-version be updated accordingly?

Since we are closely collaborating with the manufacturer Mathias Kettner, all future changes made to
the interface will be discussed and implemented.
Can I integrate the interface in my existing Check_MK-environment?
Yes, because i-doit creates its own WATO-configuration files, which can be included separately.
Can I also control multiple Check_MK-Installation simultaneously?
Any number of Check_MK-instances in i-doit can be configured and controlled.
Can I read Livestatus-data only in conjunction with Check_MK or from native Nagios as
well?
Livestatus-data can be read from a native Nagios-installation as well.
Will I be able to get assistance with integrating the interface?
We support our product to the full extent and ensure that you are not on your own when using any
of our interfaces and systems. We are able to offer you all services, ranging from supporting the initial introduction to full service assistance.
