Apple approval

Apple approval is gained at the time of development and covers the iPods available at that time.
These are the iPods which are declared as compatible on the product packaging and user manual and all
official literature. Apple have not approved any other iPods for use in the KEF picoforte so we should not
advertise the fact

iPod shuffle

The iPod shuffle does not have a docking connector and can only be connected via the 3.5mm headphone
connection just like any other MP3 player

DRM

Apple added Digital Rights Management so that external video can only be played out through a docking
station which contains an Apple authentication chip. This was not available when the KEF picoforte was
designed and no future KEF product is planned. The video can still be displayed on the iPod screen when
docked however but not on your TV screen.

Docking adapter

Apple will provide all future iPods with a compatible docking adapter that will fit into the KEF picoforte

Charging

Apple have reduced the cost and removed the firewire 5v charging circuit which the KEFdock uses

iPhone

The iPhone requires significantly extended approval to ensure that it will be compatible with a docking
station without effecting the telephone functionality. This includes EMC and interference protection which the
KEFdock does not meet.

album artwork

Album artwork is not supported by the KEFdock. The album artwork can be viewed on the iPod screen but
not the TV screen. This is because the album artwork is exported from the iPod as data and not as a
TV picture. Its display was slow, low resolution and expensive so a decision was made to disable this feature.
