Integrated Silicon Photonics

Silicon nan photonics is an emerging technology that transfers information through light in
place of electrical signals that concedes and transfers enormous amount of data amidst large data
centers etc through pulses of light. This technology allows combination of various optical
components on only one silicon chip that are set alongside with electrical circuits in a canonical
90nm semiconductor concoction. This emerging technology includes various components of
silicon nan photonics like analog and digital CMOS circuitry that are combined with excessive
dense wavelength division multiplexers, germanium photo detectors and regulators. Silicon Nano
photonics can be cost effective and can meet performance requirements when 90nm technology
node is chosen from the available CMOS technology nodes. In the evolving interconnects, the
combination of optical circuits that are capable of both receiving and transferring at large data
rates will help solving the limitations of jammed data traffic. Furthermore this technology is
accomplished in maintaining large number of optical data streams that are alongside into one
fiber by using dense wavelength division multiplexers thus allowing transfer of terabytes of data
amidst different computers that are in different locations.

The technology advance allows the incorporation of different optical mechanisms side-by side
with electrical circuits on a single silicon chip, for the first time, in normal 90nm semiconductor
fabrication. The new features of the technology include a variety of silicon nano photonics
mechanisms, such as modulators, photo sensors and ultra-compact wavelength-division
multiplexers to be combined with high-performance analog and digital CMOS circuitry.
Using of ordinary chip manufacturing process will ease the cost of conventional interconnects.
Optical communications transceivers can be manufactured in standard CMOS.

The Silicon photonics as many applications which are used in different ways.
