We need to apply for 7500KVA.

The electrical system related to Data Center, Telecom room / networking room shall be
designed as per the Tier-III classification or one level above Tier-III classification. The
system shall have redundant components (N+1 or N+N) like Transformers, Diesel
Generators, UPS modules, power distribution paths etc..
The Data Center supporting areas like BMS Room, DC Manager Cabin, Support
Services etc shall be designed as per the Tier-II classification. This system shall have
redundant component like UPS & single distribution path. The UPS redundancy may be
N+1 or N+N depending on the rating.
The whole system shall be made suitable for monitoring through BMS. BMS shall
indicate the status of breakers, UPS & electrical parameters.

POWER SOURCE
GRID POWER
Considering the power requirement of 7.5MVA , the power shall be availed at 22 kV
from MIDC grid.
The recommended transformer rating considering above power requirement is 3 X
2500kVA for N & 1 X 2500kVA as redundant.
The transformers shall be of oil filled ONAN, out door type & shall be located in outdoor
yard with fencing.
During normal conditions all transformers shall be charged feeding the Source-1 & 2
loads independently.
The paralleling of both transformer or paralleling of transformer (Grid power) with DGs is
not envisaged in the scheme.
The incoming supply from BESCOM grid has to be two from different BESCOM
substations (Airtel has to provide this). An RMU(Ring main Unit) shall receive the power
from BESCOM grid & supply is fed to metering panel & then to HT panel for further
distribution.

EMERGENCY POWER
Considering the power requirement of 7.5MVA, it is proposed to go with 415V DGs of 6
x 2000kVA DGs, as N+1 configuration.
The proposed DGs are of Prime duty & radiator cooled type.
All the DGs are located in out door yard with acoustic enclosures.
Exhaust piping shall be carried out to confirm to Pollution Control Board norms.

GRID & DG POWER CHANGEOVER ARRANGEMENT


A Main LT panel shall be provided with auto changeover from EB to DG changeover
system & vice versa.
A dedicated DG switchboard with all protections is envisaged for DGs with a bus coupler
which shall perform the following functions through PLC :

Automatic starting & stopping of DGs during grid supply failure & restoration.

Automatic synchronizing & load sharing between the DGs.


Automatic shutdown of DGs based on load demand to economize fuel consumption.
For source changeover the main HT switchboard is proposed with both grid & DG
incomers & with bus couplers. Automatic changeover between grid & DG power is
envisaged through the through Automatic Source Changeover System with Required
protection and Manual operation of grid & DG breakers is also envisaged in case of
failure of automatic system.
Provision shall be made for connecting PLC to BMS for monitoring the status of DGs,
Trafos, breakers etc..

BMS FOR ELECTRICAL OPERATIONS


The main purpose of having BMS for electrical operations is to have centralized
monitoring of electrical equipments & for collecting data. The main operator station (PC)
for this is located in a BMS room. The status of breakers & display of electrical
parameters are displayed in the monitor through mimic diagram created by software.
The following shall be hooked on to the BMS for breaker on & off status monitoring
purposes:
Main panel
UPS input panel
UPS output panel
PDU(Power distribution Units)
The following parameters can monitored in BMS :
DG on/off/trip status
DG breaker & bus coupler breaker on/off/trip status
DG metering parameters like voltage, current, kW, kVA etc..
Transformer breaker on/off/trip status
Transformer metering parameters like voltage, current, kW, kVA etc..
ATS positions i.e normal or emergency
Feeder breaker on/off/trip status

METERING
The meters in the following levels following shall be hooked on to the BMS for monitoring
purposes through digital load monitors:
Main panel
Main panel for
UPS input panel
UPS output panel
UPS systems (through communication card)
PDU(Power distribution Units)
Rack level monitoring

The parameters like Voltage, Current, kW, kWH, kVA, Pf, frequency etc.. shall be
displayed in the BMS PC.

POWER DISTRIBUTION
LIGHTING DISTRIBUTION
Each floor shall have SMSBs (Sub main switch boards) which shall feed to lighting
loads. The MCB DBs for lighting distribution shall be built-in SMSB or it will be separate
mounted. All MCBs for lighting loads shall be with C curve.
1core or 3core copper FRLS flexible cables shall be used for lighting distribution which
shall run in conduits.
No redundancy is envisaged in the whole lighting distribution system. The distribution
shall be designed as per the Tier-II classification, i.e. redundancy only for source
equipments transformer & DGs , but with single distribution path.

RAW POWER DISTRIBUTION


The power for raw power shall be tapped LT Switchboards Each floor shall have
SMSBs (Sub main switch boards) which shall feed to raw power loads.
The MCB DBs for raw power distribution shall be built-in SMSB or it will be separate
mounted. All MCBs for raw power loads shall be with C curve. 3core copper FRLS
flexible cables shall be used for raw power distribution which shall run in conduits & in
raceways depending on the site/design requirements.
No redundancy is envisaged in the whole raw power distribution system. The distribution
shall be designed as per the Tier-II classification, i.e. redundancy only for source
equipments transformer & DGs , but with single distribution path.
1 No. 6A multi socket(5pin round & 2pin flat) controlled by 6A switch shall be provided
for every seat which will be connected to raw power DB/SMSB.

UPS POWER DISTRIBUTION FOR DATA CENTER SUPPORT AREAS


The Data Centre supporting areas like NOC, DC operating center, Help desk, work
station areas etc.. shall be designed as per the Tier-II classification. This system shall
have redundant component like UPS, & single distribution path. The UPS redundancy
may be N+1 or N+N depending on the rating.

Each floor shall have SMSBs (Sub main switch boards) which shall feed to UPS power
loads. These SMSBs shall get the power from UPS out put panel, through copper
cables.
The MCB DBs for UPS power distribution shall be built-in SMSB or it will be separate
mounted. All MCBs for UPS power loads shall be with D curve. The SMSBs shall have
Transient Voltage Surge Suppressor(TVSS) connected on bus, which shall provide
protection against surges.

3core copper FRLS flexible cables shall be used for UPS power distribution which shall
run in conduits & in raceways depending on the site/design requirements.
3 No. 6A multi socket (5pin round & 2pin flat) controlled by 16A switch shall be provided
for every seat which will be connected to UPS DB/SMSB.

UPS POWER DISTRIBUTION FOR DATA CENTER


The electrical system related to Data Center, Telecom room / Networking room shall be
designed as per the Tier-III classification or one level above Tier-III classification. The
system shall have redundant components (N+1 or N+N) like Transformers, Diesel
Generators, UPS modules, power distribution paths etc..
The input power to UPS shall be provided through UPS input panel which shall have
suitably rated incomer & outgoings rated as per UPS ratings. From UPS input panel to
UPS connections shall be made with FRLS copper single core cables with adequate
sizes to suit UPS ratings.
From UPS output panel, the UPS power shall be taken up to the PDU through FRLS
copper cables to have flexibility in routing.

PDU:
The PDU shall have MCCB incomer with metering facility. A K-rated isolation
transformer is envisaged on the input side of PDU. The K-rated isolation transformer
provides complete isolation from main system & provides clean neutral for distribution.
The K-rated isolation transformer is designed to handle harmonic currents generated by
server loads. The neutral of K-rated isolation transformer shall be earthed through the
nearest earthing strip.
Further, the PDU shall have busbar & suitable number of MCBs or MCCBs as outgoing
to bus trucking system. The PDU rating shall be selected as per the rack layout & power
requirements. The PDUs shall be located closer to the row of racks & shall be 2Nos. for
each row of racks, one for source-1 & another for source-2.
The PDUs shall have Transient Voltage Surge Suppressor(TVSS) connected on bus,
which shall provide protection against surges.

The PDU incomer shall have digital load monitor with RS485 port & shall be integrated
to BMS for monitoring purposes.

UPS & BATTERIES


UPS
The UPS Technology is of True-On-Line, Double conversion technology. All UPS
systems are provided with communication cord for BMS integration with
MODBUS/suitable protocol & with RS232/485 port. All the parameters available in UPS
like Current, Voltage, Frequency, kVA etc.. shall be displayed on BMS PC.
Necessary harmonic filters are provided to control/limit the Total harmonic distortion to
less than 6%.
The UPS room for data center loads shall be located adjacent to data center.
The UPS room for source-1 & source-2 shall be separate.

BATTERIES
The Batteries are of 2V, Valve-regulated / sealed maintenance free type. All the
batteries are mounted on a steel rack/cabinet which shall be located in UPS room.
Suitable MCCB shall be provided between UPS & batteries. The back-up time for all the
UPSs is 15 Minutes.
Battery/cell monitoring system is not envisaged in the whole system

LIGHTING

GENERAL FEATURES :
All light fixtures shall be provided with low loss copper ballast. Data center fixtures shall
be of direct type, recessed mounted, 2x2ft light fixtures.
Other areas like NOC, Staging, Testing etc.. shall be provided with combination of direct
type, recessed mounted, 2x2ft light fixtures & CFL down lighters.
Corridors shall be lit with CFL down lighters.

LIGHTING CONTROLS :

Automation is envisaged for lighting system.

EMERGENCY LIGHTING
Emergency lighting for whole data center shall be 8-10% of the total lighting load with
Inverter/UPS of battery backup, to provide 30mins.
Some of the luminaries are strategically located so as to supply lighting to egress the
building during emergencies.
All emergency lights shall be permanently lit & is MCB controlled. No switch is envisaged
for emergency lighting.

EARTHING
Neutral Earthing for the source equipments shall be done with maintenance free copper
earth station with grounding electrodes, earth gel etc...
Body earthing all equipments shall be done with GI earth electrodes/GI earth mat.
Neutral point of UPS shall be earthed with copper strip/cable with size same as phase
conductor.

A dedicated copper earth station shall be provided for static earthing & rack body in data
center.
A dedicated copper earth station shall be provided for neutral earthing of isolation
transformers in PDU.
A dedicated copper earth station shall be provided for third pin earthing for servers.

EQUIPOTENTIAL BONDING
To overcome the problem of potential differences & increased earthing resistances, it is
proposed to short/interconnect all the earth pits to the make the system as Euipotential
bonding.
With above system, overall earth resistance comes down & redundancy is available for
the earth pits.
The following earth stations shall be interconnected at pit level, to achieve Euipotential
bonding :
Transformer neutral
DG neutral
UPS neutral
Third pin earthing
Body earthing of all equipments
Communication earth shall also be connected to this grid if permitted by IT team.
