Webpage
Description: Design a webpage
Program(s) Used: Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator
Date: 11 March 2015
Course: COMM 130
Objectives: Learn to layout a webpage
Processes: I made a sketch of a webpage that would
appeal to an audience of people concerned about education. I labelled all the parts of the page and decided
where to put the elements. In Photoshop I made a basic
wireframe to follow my sketch then I used the same program to translate the wireframe into a webpage mockup. I selected a gray/black background with white type
to reflect a blackboard look which would carry through
the message of this being an education page. I separated the Navigation Links into the header and the footer
since there wasnt enough room in the header for 10
links. I made a Logo using Illustrator and saved it as an
object so I could place it anywhere. I matched the logo
and the pictures in coloring for repetition. The division
of the page is done through images that will lead you to
the 3 main areas that the homeschool program focuses on. The article would change monthly and it would
focus on different issues in education. The Quote would

Business Card
Description: Design a business card
Program(s) Used: Illustrator, InDesign
Date: 1 March 2015
Course: COMM 130
Objectives: Design a company logo and use it on a business card
Processes: The business card is two sided. The front is
white with the company name portion of the logo and
the employees contact information set on a diagonal
from each other and separated by some individual tiles
from the mosaic logo. The back of the card is a light gray
with the full mosaic portion with the solid line across
the business card.

Stationery
Description: Design stationery
Program(s) Used: Illustrator, InDesign
Date: 1 March 2015
Course: COMM 130
Objectives: Design a company logo and use it on a letterhead
Processes: I used the Illustrator program to design my
logo. Even though I grouped items to create a whole
logo, I also saved elements of the logo in order to be
able to freely place them on the page or use separate
elements to have a deconstructed version of the design.
I used InDesign to make my letterhead and business
card. I placed the company logo on the top left and added a solid line across the page to the right side where I
put the employee name, title, website, email, and phone
number. I repeated the line at the bottom of the page
with the company address below.

Logo
Description: Design three logos
Program(s) Used: Illustrator, InDesign
Date: 22 February 2015
Course: COMM 130
Objectives: Learn to create a business logo in three different designs in order to give the client choices
Processes: I used Adobe Illustrator to make the logos.
I used the shape tools to make the fish on top and I
also added the mesh look to blend the colors together.
I warped the text as well to follow the fish. The second
logo was just text with a black background and I chose
some interesting color scheme from the pop art palette. The third logo was a combination of two different
texts for the main name and I also chose another color
scheme from the pop art palette. I also made the fish
using the curved line tool.

Montage
Description: Design montage
Program(s) Used: Photoshop, InDesign
Date: 15 February 2015
Course: COMM 130
Objectives: Learn to combine several images and blend
edges to make a cohesive design
Processes: I designed this project in Photoshop. The
two images were downloaded from LDS.org. The background image of the wheat I added a filter called colored
pencil since I wanted the real looking picture to go well
with the painting. I added the image of the fiery furnace
then used the transform tool to resize. I added a mask
to the second image and proceeded to make the image
more transparent adding only enough transparency to
Christ and the followers faces to let through the colored
pencil effect. I then did a series of text lines, each one
being done individually so I could change them easily
without messing any thing else up. The first and third
lines have transparency added to that text box.

Magazine
Description: Design a magazine article
Program(s) Used: Photoshop, InDesign
Date: 26 March 2015
Course: COMM 130
Objectives: Learn to layout magazine pages and make
them appealing to the audience
Processes: I made a shape map according to my sketch
except I changed the position of the title from the left
side to the top of the layout. The shape map really
helped me visual my sketch then easily transition to the
actual layout. As I proceeded to actually laying out the
spread, I realized I didnt like the color scheme I had
chosen with the photos so I needed to change that. I also
changed the quote image out with a photo since I felt the
quote was too busy with the article right next to it. I
took advice from the critique and used guides to make
my text columns to be equal. I removed the brown rectangle at the top and enlarged the photo of the woman to
take up the whole page and increased the transparency.
I had to switch the photo of Christ since my previous
photo was horizontal and I needed a vertical one to take
up the whole second page. I am still having trouble with
the text wrap feature and for some reason it didnt want
to have the same distance all the way around between
the quote and the surrounding text.

Event Ad
Description: Create an event flyer
Program(s) Used: Microsoft Word
Date: 1 February 2015
Course: COMM 130
Objectives: Learn how to scan a photo and create an ad
for an event using Word
Processes: I used Word to create the flyer. The directions for how to do this didnt work for me so I figured
out how to fill the text box with the image and so I was
able to also type text into the box. The text appeared
over the image and I adjusted the color of the text until
it was visually appealing with the color scheme of the
image as well as easy to read.

Photodesign
Description: Photoshop images
Program(s) Used: Photoshop, InDesign
Date: 7 February 2015
Course: COMM 130
Objectives: Learn how to use Photoshop to refine photographs and use in a design
Processes: For this project I used Photoshop to create
the image. I took a picture of California rocks, arranging
them so the colors were interspersed throughout the
frame while trying to keep the rock pile looking as if it
had been dropped there. I adjusted the picture using
Photoshop for Levels, hue, color adjustment, and sharpness. I then dropped it into a new photoshop document
and proceeded to make a series of rectangles for the
background while matching their color to colors I got
from the picture. I then added the typography, trying
to keep the wording, sizing, and font simple, but with
impact. I later readjusted my rectangle colors to make
sure it wouldnt print too dark.

Flyer
Description: Create an event flyer
Program(s) Used: InDesign
Date: 27 January 2015
Course: COMM 130
Objectives: Learn how to use a clients images and text
to design a reproducible flyer
Processes: I used Alignment, Flow, and White Space to
make the clients images and text create a design. The
object was to catch the attention of those wanting to develop leadership skills so I emphasized the text in a way
to highlight those aspects of the clients services.
