Dear Sir/Madam
I wish to express my interest in applying for the role of Editor with Kellog Brown & Root
(KBR), based in Perth, Western Australia.
I have since 2010 been employed as a Senior Project Officer with the new national
education authority, the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority
(ACARA), and previously worked for the Department of Education (DoE), Western Australia,
first as Senior Policy and Research Officer and later as Principal Consultant, from 2005
to 2010. It has been during my time in both roles that I have established a known reputation
for strong conceptualising, development, generation and analysis skills in solution-focussed
projects in very short timeframes, often researching, analysing, presenting and reporting to
major stakeholders, including various ministers and senior members of both DoE and
ACARA, in both written and oral and formal and informal forms.
My current role with ACARA has significantly relied upon my keen understanding of the
importance of maintaining and addressing corporate relationships with senior level
external stakeholders. I have administered this task in close conjunction with
communications and analytics personnel, and have been responsible for building the
professional understanding of an internal team of staff from various backgrounds and roles in
deeply complex and contentious content. In acting as a leader in this review process, I have
worked closely in collaboratively establishing clear project guidelines and parameters
under tight time pressures and have operated within these to ensure accurate and timely
delivery of analysis, recommendations, and most importantly the clear communication of
highly important information that conforms to corporate policy and position. This has since
been followed by an extensive project management review that has utilised both my keen
analytical skills further honed during the successful undertaking of the project, as well as my
abilities to develop creative, efficient, and practical solutions within expected time
frames and existing policy and budgetary directions.
There have been numerous occasions where the need for me to confidently communicate,
consult, liaise and negotiate with a wide range of key education stakeholders and senior
officers has been called upon and requested during my tenure in both roles. Written
communication is a forte of mine, and has been called upon numerous times for the
purposes of writing executive and senior leadership briefing notes, reports and letters, as
well as other correspondence designed for high-level exchange. I was also responsible for
designing, establishing and maintaining a key online communication presence since
inception. Part of an integrated e-communication strategy, the website also hosts a bulletin,
the production and dissemination of which I managed.
In my roles over five years with both ACARA the DoE, a significant component of my work
has been constituted by and continues to incorporate the crucial preparation, quality
assurance, analysis and presentation of various layers of performance data. My role has
included the development and refinement of online data systems that integrate data from
various sources into user-friendly representations and forms that are used for school review
purposes. This involvement has taken shape in the form of large complex electronic
reporting database systems to which I have contributed to their further development by
devising, proofing and analysing the complex array of reporting data available.
On a systemic level, my work with the various modes of performance data has contributed to
a situation in which there is a greater awareness among clients of the power of the data in
