thattheorganisationhasaFrenchtitlebearstestimonytoitsfoundationin1915bythreecountrieseach
whollyorpartlyfrancophone.ThefoundingmembercountriesoftheFIDICwereBelgium,Franceand
Switzerland.

andallFIDICproductsandservicesareprotectedbytheFIDICtrademark.

History
Therewere59participantsataninauguralmeetingduringtheWorldExhibitioninGhent,Belgium,inJuly
1913,todiscussthepossibilityofformingaglobalfederationofconsultingengineers.Oftheparticipants,
19wereofficialdelegatesfromBelgium,Denmark,France,Germany,TheNetherlands,Switzerlandand
theUSA,withtheremaindercomingfromAustria/Hungary,Canada,RussiaandtheUK.Themeetingwas
asuccessinthatitledtoFIDIC'sformalconstitutionon22July1913.Somecountries,however,only
maintainedprovisionallinksduringthefirstfewyears,sotherealfoundersofFIDICwereBelgium,France
andSwitzerland.FIDICledadifficultlifeuntilthelate1940swithachangingnumberofmembers,andall

membersbasedinEurope.In1959theywerejoinedbyAustralia,Canada,SouthAfricaandUSAtomake
FIDICtrulyinternational.Thefirstmemberassociationsfromthedevelopingworldjoinedin1965(Central
Africa,nowMalawi,ZambiaandZimbabwe)andin1967(Colombia).

iswellknownthroughouttheprofessionofconsultingengineering.FIDICalsorunsabookshopand
publishesinternationalcontractsandbusinesspracticedocumentswhichareusedasguidesandtemplates
theworldover.
FIDICisbestknownforitsrangeofcontractsthatincludesthe:DredgersContractShortFormofContract
ConstructionContractPlant&DBContractDBOContractandEPC/TurnkeyContract.Detailsare
availableintheFIDICBookshop.FIDICalsopublishestheClient/ConsultantModelServicesAgreement
togetherwiththeSubConsultancyAgreementandtheJointVentureAgreement.FIDICpublishestheMDB
HarmonisedEditionoftheConstructionContractthatisusedbyMultilateralDevelopmentBanksincluding
theWorldBankfortheirprojects.
