time. If man can't govern for short period of time say 1000 years, how can he govern when he can't
vouch for tomorrow?
Berlioz and Ivan suspect him of being a foreign spy!
The foreigner is a German professor visiting Moscow to provide consulting services. He insists that
Jesus exists.
Berlioz wants proof.

Pontius Pilate (procurator) has hemicrania because everywhere wreaks of rose oil.
he trials a defendant from galilee who incited people to destroy the temple of Yershalaim.
He calls Mark (Ratslayer) to teach him how to address the procurator (not good man)
He is to call Pilate, hegemon (leader). He (yeshua ha-notsri) debates his innocence and heals the
procurator. Pilate tries to get yeshua to lie so that he maybe saved but yeshua wouldn't. Because it's
passover. One of the four criminals maybe set free. The high priest chooses Barraban eventhough
Pilate asks him again 3 times since Yeshua is the least harmful criminal. The High Priest is
unwavered. Pilate argues with high priest in secrecy and decides to report the High priest to Caesar.
Pilate announces to the people that Barraban will be saved. Yeshua is executed.
Chapter 3 - The 7th proof

After the professor tells the story, it is evening.
Berlioz and Ivan seemed to have dreamt through it.
Berlioz says that none of what the professor told could be proved to have happened.
The professor says that he was there throughout the Pontius Pilate story.
Berlioz suspects him of being insane and decides to humour him.
The professor then asks them if they think the devil exists.
Berlioz decides to report this insane man to the Traveler's Bureau and pretends to believe
what the professor says.
The professor mentions Berlioz's uncle in Kiev.
Berlioz continues to look for a pay phone and is greeted by the man from his hallucination.
(The choirmaster) directs him to the turnstile.
A tram heads towards Berlioz, he tries to step back but slips and falls and is decapitated by the tram.

After hearing a scream, the poet runs to the turnstile.
He sees Berlioz's head and goes in frenzy biting his hand drawing blood.
Two women collide in front of Ivan talking about annushka spilling sunflower oil making Berlioz
slip at the turnstile.
Ivan remembers what the professor says and believes that he is responsible for Berlioz's death.
He returns to the professor who plays ignorant to the russian language.
Sitting next to him is the choirmaster who helps the professor escape.
Ivan tries to grab the choirmaster who disappears and joins the professor.
They are then both joined by a big cat walking on his hind legs.
Choirmaster escapes onto moving bus.
Cat tries to pay on tram but is rejected by conductress. Cat then grabs onto back of tram.
Ivan sees professor and in a blink is at Hertzen street.
He runs but doesn't get closer.
He goes into house 13 apartment 47, goes into toilet, is mistaken for Kirrey.
He then looks at the moscow river and loses his clothes.
He searches the city whilst Eugene Onegin (polonaise opera) can be heard.

Stiopa is in bed, a mess, vaguely remembering some lady from last night. he doesn't want to get up
and cries for Grunia and Misha (Berlioz). The professor sits by his bed feeds him and tells him
about the contract they signed yesterday. Stiopa checks with variety's financial director. He sees the
cat and asks Grunio where the cat had come from. He finds Woland's entourage in his room and
Azazello sends him to Yalta.
Chapter 8 - The Duel of the professor and the poet

Ivan wakes up presses button and calls in attendant. Attendant gies him a bath and takes him to
canteen to interrogate him about his history and relatives. He was then taken to his bedroom, given
breakfast and shortly afterwards, a multitude of people led by dr stravinsky entered his room. Ivan
explains to the dr that he is a normal person and tells him of what happened yesterday. The dr
convinces Ivan that he will come back even if he is released so he decides to stay and write to the
authority about the foreign professor.

A crowd of tenants petition their rights personally to the chairman, the chairman hurries into
apartment #50 and finds Koroviev demanding the need to rent out the whole apartment. Koroviev
pays him, they both sign contracts and Koroviev gives him an extra wad of cash. He goes home
where his wife brings him food. Woland wants to get rid of him. Two unknown men search the
chairman's house, finds the wad of cash in ventilation shaft which turns into foreign dollars and they
take the chairman away.

At the office, Varenukha comes in to give a poster of Woland's show to the fin-director. Hy all
impatiently wait for tiopa who's in Yalta. A telegram comes from Yalta criminal investigators
claiming they found Stiopa. They don't believe it, sends one back to say that Stiopa is in moscow.
Another telegram arrives, says he's hynotized by Woland. They confer some more and try to get a
hold of Woland. Another telegram arrives with Stiopa's handwriting. The fin-director gets all the
telegrams together and tells Verenukha to get them to sort it out. He rushes off, and a phone call
tells him to leave the telegrams. He doesn't and gets beaten up by the cat and red haired man and
thrown to a place with a naked ginger lady who wants to ksis him.

Giulli family's bicycle troop comes on and performs in the variety show. Then Rimsky meets
Woland's troop. They then perform on stage, summoning a chair from thin air. Behemoth and
Koroviev does a card trick. The emcee annoys Koroviev and they decapitate him and put it bak on
when blood flies everywhere. Fagot then turns the stage into a boutique where women go crazy and
grab all the clothes. When it disappears, Arkady asks for the exposure. Fagot exposes Arkady's
affair and Behemoth ends the show by asking the band to play a march.

The Master climbs in through the balcony because he has Praskovia's keys. He listens to Ivan's
entire story and sounds ever so interested. He then reveals himself to be a writer who had written a
book about Pontius Pilate and tells Ivan about the events that surrounded this book of his. He wins
the lottery, quits his job at the museum, rents a place in Arbat and begins the book. In Arbat, he
meets a woman carrying yellow flowers and they flirt with each other. They would then meet
everyday, secretly. The editor doesn't like the book Reviews were then written in the papers
slagging his book off. After the noel was finished they spent less time together because the master
makes a friend, Aloysius who explains to him very convincingly why he couldn't possibly have
published his book. Then the master began to become fearful of the dark. His mistress then grew

pale and asked for forgiveness for her advice to publish the excerpt and told him to run away to the
black sea. He then had a crazy urge to burn his Pontius Pilate book and does so in the furnace. The
mistress comes into the house wet from the rain and grabs what's left of the book. He promises to
heal the master and promises to leave her husband for the master. They are interrupted because the
emcee joins the facility in room 120. 15 mins after the woman left, men knocked on his window. He
then decides to go to the clinic in the cold. He does not want to tell the mistress and upset her with a
letter form the nuthouse. He hitches a ride from a truck to get to the clinic. Ivan then asks what
happens to Pilate and Jesus afterwards. The master can't tell him without being scared and
disappears off the balcony.

Rimsky escapes to his office, and peers out his window seeing lots of naked women about. He tries
to make phone calls to exonerate himself but it starts ringing and a woman tells him not to make
any calls. He gets terrified and Varenukha walks in and tells him he has found Stiopa not in Yalta.
Rimsky believes he's lying and sees that Varenukha isn't producing a shadow. Varenukha knows he's
exposed and a naked woman mosnter tries to claw her way into the room. When she suceeds a
rooster calls three times and they both fly off. Rimsky runs away onto a train and it disappears
along with him.

Nikanor is interviewed in a room about his foreign currency. He tells them that Koroviev is the
devil and hallucinates, seeing him in the corner of the room demanding it be sprayed with holy
water. Some people are then sent to apartment 50, but all the wax seals were in place and no
neighbour knew the name Koroviev. He is then thrown into the clinic where he is given Stravinsky's
special formula to sleep better. He then experiences a dream where the emcee asks him to turn in his
foreign currency. The emcee goes on to talk about Dunchill and Kurolesov's fates for not handing in
their foreign currency to the country. It is useless to them but not the country. He then convinces an
audience member to hand in their currency. Then some cooks appear while he's waking up who
turns out to be doctors. The nurse injects him and he has a dreamless sleep.
Chapter 16 The execution

On a scorching day, the carts of the prisoners were being pulled up Bald mountain. Carts with
prisoners with a board hung on their necks. As the officials watched the execution they would drink
water and curse at the prisoners hoping they die faster so they can go home. Four hours before,
Matthew Levi tried to run to see Yeshua but was beaten and bruised by guards so he finds another
hiding place. He starts to blame himself for Yeshua's fate. He then thought to save Yeshua from
torture by sneaking onto his cart and killing him and then killing himself but he didn't have a knife
so he steals one from a bread shop. He is then unable to catch up to Yeshua and curses God for
letting him die. A storm appears. A soldier wakes Yeshua up and gives him water before stabbing
killing him. Rain pours down and Levi runs to take Yeshua's body away, freeing the others as well.

There is a huge queue outside the Variety and some detectives come and calls all the staff together.
They question the staff about the black magic act but nobody can give any detail. The book-keeper
then goes to deposit the money made from yesterday. One taxi took him and is angry about people
giving him 10 ruble notes that turn into bottle labels or a bee from woland's show. When he arrives
at the office, he sees people screaming and running away. He hears anna wailing and finds a suit
writing and answering phones. Anna says that a behemoth did this to him. Policemen arrive and the
book-keeper sneaks away and walks to the entertainment commission's branch office where
everybody were hypnotized and forced to sing against their wills about freedom and convicts. A
doctor then administers valerian to them and they stop singing. The book-keeper asks if they've seen
a cat but the girl describes Koroviev who the manager brought in for a singing club. He helped them
with verse one of Grand old seascape before disappearing. Everyone then just sang against their
own will, they then find out that the valerian didn't work and they are all sent to the clinic by truck.
The book-keeper then checks his money into a bank but they turn out to be foreign notes and he is
arrested on the spot.

The uncle gets telegram from Berlioz telling him to go to his funeral. He then realises that there is a
free apartment and needs to register his tenancy at the tenancy's association. He tells Piatnazhko
that he is the sole heir of Belioz's apartment. A man comes in, whispers in his ear and Poplavsky is
left alone. He goes to apartment 50 and finds Behemoth. He introduces himself to Korokiev who
starts crying. Behemoth asks to see his passport and gets Azazello to throw him out. Andrei asks
him where apartment 50 is. He tells him and darts into a closet where he could see the front door.
Andrei rings the doorbell and a naked woman answers. He is then told to go inside the office where
he finds Woland. Woland tells him he doesn't want any of the bartender's food and offers him a seat
which breaks. He then inquires about the sance because all the tens he was given turned into bits of
paper. They all turn normal again. He leaves his hat before he leaves and goes to get it back. Hella
gives him a hat and sword. The hat turns into cat. He goes to Kuzmin the liver doctor who says
nothing wrong with liver. Then strange things happen, sparrows on his desk and a man dressed as a
nurse gives him leeches.

Margarita woke up after dreaming about the master thinking something amazing will happen. He
goes to a windowless room and takes everything she has of the master out, she reads what's lef tof
the book, cries and hides everything again. Natasha tells her about the sance but she does not
believe Natasha and leaves. She arrives at a bench and talks to the master in her head. Don Juan
asks her about the weather but scares him away. A funeral march comes and Azazello tells her that
it's Berlioz's funeral. He tells her that Woland wants to see her and entices her with news of the
master and giving her some cream.

Margarita applies the cream to herself in front of her dresser and the wrinkles and crow feet and
blemishes all disappear. She rubs it all over herself and feels free. She flies into her husband's room
and writes him a letter saying that she's leaving him. She gives most of her stuff to Natasha and
teases Nikolai Ivanovich before flying off.

Magarita flies past a house where people argue and shuts them up. She flies into the DRAMLIT
house and looks for Latunsky's apartment where she floods it, smashing everything including piano.
She then flies out and smashes the DRAMLIT house's windows. Until she came to a frightened
little boy's window where she flew in and comforted him before flying away again. She flew past
cities when she saw a black object approaching her as she flew. It was Natasha who had also used
the cream and rubbed it onto Nikolai's bald head who turned into a pig for her to ride. Natasha asks
Magarita to let her stay a witch and Magarita promises to ask. She then dives into this lake where
she finds a naked guy. She calls her broom and flies to the other side of the bank where she
encounters half goat and mermaids. He brings her champagne and calls for a car which falls from
the sky driven by a bird. It drives off and the island disappears.

The car flies to a nearby cemetry drops margarita and leaves. Margarita meets azazello and they
both fly to Sadovaya, him on a rapier. They arrive at apartment 50 and are thrust into darkness as
they descend a infinite staircase they see Koroviev with a lamp. They arrive at a small room where
all the other devils are. Behemoth is playing chess with Woland. Hella is rubbing cream on
Woland's knee. Margarita helps rub ointment and Abbadon appears an disappears. Natasha is
allowed to stay with Margarita and the pig sits with the cooks.

necklace and painful feet frames. Koroviev warns her of what she must and must've do and they
arrive at the ball. The first guests arrive in a coffin and a gallows, their corpses turning into humans.
Margarita greets every guest, hours pass and the chains grow heavy, she places her hand on the
pedestal and winces as she greets the guests. After the last two guests are greeted she finds herself
in the small room and bursts into tears. Hella and Natasha bathe and massages her. Koroviev tells
her she must go back so the guests don't feel neglected. She returns and Woland enters with
Berlioz's head, he turns it into a cup and kills Baron meigel whose blood flows into the cup, he
drinks some and hands it to Margarita to drink, the party morphs back into apartment 50.

Behemoth gives pure alcohol to Margarita which makes her regain her strength and hunger. They
dine. Azazello does a gun trick and Behmoth tries but fails. Margarita senses it's time for her to go,
Woland stops her and gives her a wish. She wants Frieda to stop receiving the hankerchief used to
kill her son. She is pardoned but this time Woland wants Margarita to have something for herself.
She chooses the master, who appears in a distressed state. Koroviev gives him something to drink
and he comes to. He tells Woland about his novel and Woland asks what he can do for the couple.
Margarita wants everything to be back like it was. Mogarych appear, is exposed and thrown out the
window. Koroviev tweaks a few tenant documents making Mogarych not exist, gives Magarita her
belongings. Natasha was proposed to by Monsieur Jacques and is allowed to stay with him. The pig
is given a document stating where he was last night (at the ball). Varenukha is allowed to not be a
vampire. Woland gives Magarita a golden horseshoe with diamond studs. Woland's devils escort
them out, Magarita loses her horseshoe in the courtyard where the flying car was waiting and
Azazello goes to see what has happened. Annushka finds it and hides it. Azazello throttles her and
she gives it back so Azazello thanks her with 200 rubles. Azazello gives it back to Margarita and all
the devils bid farewell to Margarita. They arrive at their basement, the master goes to sleep and
Margarita reads the manuscript.
Chapter 25 How the procurator tried to save Judas of Kiriath

Pilate smashes a wine jug on floor and shouts at the african servant who hides. Aphranius arrives
and chats with Pilate about Jerusalem and the unrest in the city. Pilate tells him that he received info
that Judas will be killed tonight and his betrayal money returned to the high priest.

As margarita finishes reading, it is morning. Arkady, is woken up and asked questions about Woland
down the phone. Kitaitsev says that there is no way Stiopa could've signed papers with Woland.
Stiopa is confirmed to be coming back to Moscow from Yalta. Prokhor returns to his suit. Rimsky is
found in a closet at a Hotel. The non-stop singers are healed. Ivan Nikolayevich is questioned.
Varenukha is questioned along with Annushka and Nikolai. It is then reported that people were
living in apartment 50, a black cat is seen and piano music is heard. Men then come to arrest the
devils. They burst through the door, find Behemoth and try to capture him but he is shot. He
recovers after drinking gasoline and a gunfight ensues while he is on a chandelier. He then sets the
apartment on fire.

Koroviev and Behemoth are stopped by the doorman of the store. Behemoth transforms into a
human but the doorman says they need foreign currrency, they barge in anyway. They enter the
grocery section and Behemoth starts eating oranges and fish without paying. The authorities come
to stop them and they set the whole place on fire. They then move onto the writer's restaurant but
are stopped by a lady. Archibald lets them in and gives them the best table and personally serves
them. Petrakov's wife gets jealous. Boba arrives and sits with the Petrakovs and tells them about
apartment 50. 3 men come in to shoot the devils, they disappear and fire emerges from the primus
setting the restaurant on fire.
Chapter 29 The fate of the master and margarita decided

Azazello and Woland watch he sunset together. Woland asks where the other two are. Matthew Levi
comes and tells Woland to give peace to the master and margarita. He accepts and gets Azazello to
arrange everything. Behemoth and Koroviev come back and tells Woland what they have been up to
and they are dismissed.
