1.INTRODUCTION.

The steam and hot air plays pivotal role in the manufacturing process. The steam generation using
LDO, HSD, Furnace oil or electricity is becoming costlier as well as scarce by the passage of
time. The scarcity and the up scaling cost of these resources have forced every one to look out for
an alternative source of energy for the generation of steam and hot air. We Indians are fortunate
to have nearly 300 good sunny days in a calendar year. The Parabolic Solar Concentrating System
is a tested and proven technology which uses the Solar Energy to generate the steam and hot air.
This process of steam generation is natural, eco friendly and long lasting. (The life of the system
with proper maintenance is around 20 years.). The use of Solar Energy For Generation of Steam
is now an attractive economical proposition since the pay back period of the system is less than
years

2. TECHNICAL DESCRIPTOPN.

The solar steam generation plant consists of solar parabolic concentrator, Circular receiver, steam
header, automatic tracking system, valves and control, etc.
The main component of the system is the 16-sq.meter solar parabolic concentrator. This
technology is invented by an Austrian scientist Mr. Wolfgang Scheffler. The parabolic
concentrator of 16 sq.meter concentrates the sun light in to approx. 45 cm. where the high optical
temp.around 500 degree centigrade is generated. This temp. Is carried in by a circular receiver by
means of heat exchange in between the water, which is circulating inside the receiver and the
optical temperature. Thus exchanged temp.is directly converted in to steam. The header is used as
temp. presvior. Because of the natural circulation it does not need any external power
requirement. The solar parabolic concentrators are tracked automatically with help of a
photovoltaic panel, light sensor, DC drive, gear motor etc. but the focus is fixed at the point of
receiver.

3. PROPOSED SOLAR STEAM GENERATION SYSTEM FOR PREM DYING WORKS.

The proposed Solar Steam Generation system for Prem Dyeing works is with 35 concentrators of 16
sq. meter. Mr. Alec Gagnuex, from Switzerland and Mr. B.K.Jayasimha together did the preliminary
survey of open roof available at main office of the industry. The roof size of 27 meters X 60 meters
can accommodate 35 concentrators of 16 sq. meters. 30 concentrators are reflecting the sunlight in to
15 receivers from both side of the receivers like sandwich. 5 concentrators will reflect the sunlight in
to one side of the receiver. (Because of the site conditions).
The steam generated by the system will be used for pressing unit and excess steam can be feeded to
the main steam line for dyeing factory with necessary valves and safety instruments.

ACCESSARIES.

TOTAL COST OF THE SYSTEM IS Rs. 49,00,000=00

Rs. FOURTY NINE LACKHS ONLY.

5. ENERGY OUTPUT.

Area of the concentrator - 16 sq. meters.

Aperture area (mean effective area for sun rays) - Cos 43.23 X 16 = 11.6 sq.meters.

Average Solar Radiation for Indian conditions 750-watts/sq. meter.

Average sunlight available from morning 8-30 am to 4-30 pm – 8 hours/day.

Total energy output is Aperture area X Solar Radiation X hours.

11.6 X 750 X 8 Hours.

= 69.6 kwh/frame.

With 65% Concentrator efficiency the energy out put is 45-kilo watt hours/day/frame.

= 39,000 kilo calories.

Calorific Value of Diesel is 10,000-kilo calories/kg.

With 80% Boiler efficiency it is 8,000 kilo Calories.

So one frame of 16 sq. meters will save around 4.8 kgs of Diesel/day

Assuming 280 sunny days the saving per year with a proposed project of 35 frames is
approximately 47,000 liters of diesel/year.

6. CENTRAL FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE.

As per the guidelines of Ministery of Non conventional Energy Sources, Govt. of India the Solar
Steam Generation System is eligibale for Central financial Assistance of 35% of the project cost.

The total project cost is Rs. 49,00,000=00

MNES grant - Rs. 17,15,000=00

Beneficiary share - Rs. 31,85,000=00.

7. PAY BACK CALCULATION.

With proposed 35 frames Solar steam generation plant we can save around 47,000 litres of
diesel/year.

That is equal to Rs. 18,80,000=00/year. ( current diesel prices Rs. 40=00/litre).

So the Pay back period for the amount of Rs. 31,85,000=00 is approximately

1 year and 6 months only.

Apart from this Beneficiary will get 100% income depreciation on the investment.
