GETTING STARTED

DO NOT INSERT THE SECURITY KEY UNTIL VULCAN 6 XP PROGRAM HAS BEEN INSTALLED FIRST

These instructions assume all of the required software has been installed in order to use the Vulcan 6
program. This includes table communication software for Vulcan workstations that are connected to a
table controller. If you experienced a problem during the installation process, please contact Vulcan
Support for further assistance.

To install security key for Vulcan 6 XP


All computers setup by Mechanical Data have been preinstalled with the appropriate Vulcan 6
Security driver.
IMPORTANT: Installation of the VULCAN 6 SECURITY KEY DRIVER is required on the
server\computer that has a Vulcan 6 Security Key connected. If Vulcan is running from a network,
installation of the driver is not necessary on individual Vulcan workstations.
1. Insert the Vulcan 6 Security Key into a USB port on the server\computer. The Found New
Hardware Wizard appears upon detecting the new hardware. If this wizard does not appear,
try using a different USB port.

2. From the Found New Hardware Wizard, select Install from a list or specific location
(Advanced), and then click Next.
3. From Please choose your search and installation options, verify that Include this
location in the search is checked, then click the Browse button.

4. From the Browse for folder window, select the path and location for Vulcan 6 as shown.
Select C: drive, program files, Lockformer & Vulcan 6 XP, then click OK. The installation
process begins.

NOTE: Possible reasons for occurrence
a. The Security Driver was improperly installed (incorrect path selected).
b. A problem occurred detecting the Security Key. Local or Network.

VULCAN 6 LOGIN AND LOGON


LOGIN & LOGON features offer improved security through user logons. Quick logon allows users to
bypass the login feature. Different users can be established with different capabilities.
This procedure has been completed on all computers setup by Mechanical Data.

To log into the Vulcan 6XP program


1. Double-click the

2. Type the word Administrator in the User ID box.

3. Using lower case, type pw in the Password box.


4. Click the Login button.

To set up Allow quick logon

information to be saved and eliminates the need to enter a user name and password.

Creating a Vulcan 6 XP database connection


A Connection is a link to the Vulcan 6 XP database. Connections allow for data to be maintained in
separate databases. Databases can be in different locations connected by a network or the net.
Databases can be used to separate work.
This procedure has been completed on all computers setup by Mechanical Data.

To create a Vulcan 6 XP database connection


1. On the toolbar, click the New Connection

button.

2. From the Data Connection Information window, click the

3. From the Provider tab, select Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server and then click
Next. (The information shown on the Provider tab is a list of all OLE DB providers detected
on your computer.)

4. From the Connection tab


a. For local connection, type LOCAL in the Select or enter a server name box.
b. For a network connection, select the appropriate server name from the list.

5. From Enter information to log on to the server, click Use a specific user name and
password.
a. Using lower case, enter sa as the user name.
b. Enter VulcanXP as the Password.
c. Click the Allow saving password check box.

IMPORTANT: Verify Allow saving password has


been selected.

6. From Select the database on the server, select the Vulcan database from the drop down list,
usually named VulcanXP. Advanced users may have setup multiple data connections on the
server; each connection must have a unique name.
7. Click Test Connection to verify if the login to the database was successful or not. If you
experience a problem connecting to the database, verify the information below before
contacting Vulcan Customer Support for assistance.
a. Verify Microsoft SQL Server 2000 exists on the computer. To do this, click Start,
Control Panel and then Add/Remove programs. Microsoft SQL Server 2000
should be listed under Currently installed programs.
b. Verify SQL Server is running. To do this, click Start, Control Panel,
Performance and Maintenance, and Administrative Tools. Open Services.
Click MSSQLSERVER to verify the status is Started.
8. After a successful login, click OK.
9. From the Data Connection information window, enter a unique connection name and click
OK.
NOTE: For example, you can use the name Connection for a descriptive designation or use a
company name.
10. If you wish, leave the optional Description blank. In a network environment, enter the server
name where the database is located.

Table Communications

During the Vulcan 6 installations, the below documents are copied into the Table Communication
Docs folder located on C:\Program files\Lockformer\VulcanDocs.
Before proceeding, verify which communication program applies for your shops configuration.

For shops with LOGISOL TOUCH SCREEN COMPUTER, follow the instructions contained in
the Create a TouchScreen connection (Controller).doc
For shops with any of the below listed controller types, follow the instructions contained in the Setup
Companel & create TABLE database connection.doc.
