Attention Getter:
How many times a day does you eat? Im sure its hard to imagine a day without
any food at all! For 868 million people thats the case. Martin Luther King said "When I
die, don't build a monument to me. Don't bestow me degrees from great universities. Just
clothe the naked. Say that I tried to house the homeless. Let people say that I tried to feed
the hungry." Countless efforts are made but more needs to be done.

REASON #1:
Please make a donation to The Hunger Project because millions of people die of hungerrelated causes.
According to a 2012 United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) article,
There are 870 million hungry people in the world.
a. Cases of hunger occur throughtout the world but more prevalent in southern Asia and
sub Saharan Africa, 550 million people combined.
b. The millennium development project stated in Sept. 8th 2000 that 50% of extreme
hunger would be eradicated by 2015.
c. More then 100 million children under 5 are underweight, therefore unable to realize
their full human and socio- economic potential.

strategies while empowering people living in hunger and poverty to achieve permanent
solutions to chronic hunger.
According to a July 22, 2012 Los Angeles Times article nearly 1 billion people are
malnourished, and a child dies of hunger every 11 seconds. By 2050, farmers would have
to double crop production to meet the demand.

1) Of 42.7 million of population in Dadaab, Kenya, 43.4% of the population is living in


poverty with below $1.25 a day.
2) In 2001, during the worst of a three-year drought, shortage turned to famine. 40% of
Somali children who reached the refugee camps in Dadaab were suffered by kwashiokor,
an effect of chronic malnutrition.
3) Despite emergency feeding and medical treatment, many children died within 24
hours.
