Dr.

Hayes Wicker, Senior Pastor

They are Precious in His Sight
Well-known author and pastor, Max Lucado, was conducting
an Easter Sunday morning service at his church in San
Antonio a few years ago when he heard the voice of a
young boy. The child asked, Whats that daddy? as the
elements of the Lords Supper were being passed. The man
sitting behind Max quietly but in a deep voice said, These
are crackers; they help us think about Jesus death on the
cross. Then the little guy questioned, What is that, daddy?
as he pointed to the cup of juice. Again there was a kindly
explanation: It is grape juice, and it reminds us of the blood of Jesus. Enthralled
with the conversation, Max could not help but turn around and look to see who
was interpreting the wonder of Communion as they remembered the death of
Christ. It was David Robinson, the great player for the San Antonio Spurs and
his 6-year old, David, Jr. David had led the Spurs to a playoff win over the Suns
the night before, but being in church was all-important. With personal faith, as
a dad who had trusted in Jesus Christ, he joyfully, simply, and willingly shared
with his young son about the cross. Naturally, the boy was not ready to partake
but was open to take another step toward God.
As we celebrate the Lords Supper this weekend, dont forget its simplicity and
profundity as the song proclaims, Jesus loves the little children, all the children
of the world. Red & yellow, black & white. They are precious in His sight. Jesus
loves the little children of the world. This is why He admonished the disciples
to not demean them: Let the little children come to Me and do not hinder them,
to such belongs the kingdom of heaven (Matthew 19:14). It is possible for
them to believe in Him (Matthew 18:6) as they humble themselves (Matthew
18:4). With Vacation Bible School around the corner, June 8-12, pray that
we will have a great harvest of meaningful and life-changing conversions. May
we receive such children in His name and not be a stumbling block to them
(Matthew 18:5 & 6). Our VBS needs not only servants and snacks, but also the
support of the whole church and the supplication of believers for God to work.
Since all children of different nations, backgrounds, and ethnic groups are
precious in His sight, we are grateful for a church that can host our language
ministries to our Hispanic, Haitian, Romanian, and Vietnamese folks. This is
a blessed weekend as we vote concerning David George as pastor of the
Hispanic Ministry. He has done a wonderful job in a part-time capacity as interim
pastor while continuing to teach science at First Baptist Academy. A former
International Mission Board missionary to Paraguay, David speaks excellent
Spanish. According to the 2013 census, 26.3% of Collier County is Hispanic.
This is also a blessed weekend for our Vietnamese friends, as Pastor Jimmy
Nguyens daughter is wed to a wonderful young man. We praise God for Jimmys
victory over cancer and faithfulness through the years of persecution, and now
in years of proclamation and pastoring.
*There is a guest reception in the Commons following the Saturday night and
Sunday morning worship services. Pastor would love to meet you!

David George

In View of a Call This Weekend

as our Pastor of Hispanic Ministry

It is with great excitement that we introduce David George

coming in view of a call as our Pastor of Hispanic Ministry
here at FBCN. For the past six months, David has served
as our Interim Hispanic Pastor and has done an incredible
job of growing and moving the Hispanic Ministry forward.
Davids affinity for Hispanic work was formed when he
was a missionary with the International Mission Board in
Paraguay. David and his wife, Linda, have three children
who all attend school at FBA (Savannah-18, Rebekkah-14,
and Seth-8).
