Ohio Voters Want Tax and Trade Reform Now

Statewide Survey Shows Majority Support Trade Promotion Authority as Path to Economic Growth and Job
Creation
Columbus, OH Main Street Growth & Opportunity Coalition-Ohio, a state chapter of the national civic advocacy
organization dedicated to raising awareness about pro-growth policies, today released results of a statewide voter survey
indicating bi-partisan support for renewing the president's authority to negotiate trade agreements and for reforming the
business tax code this year.
Key Trade Results
One and a half-million Ohio jobs depend on foreign trade. With that in mind, 65.7% of respondents agree that ensuring the
president's ability to negotiate trade agreements that expand the global marketplace for U.S. companies' goods and
services would spur economic growth and job creation in Ohio and the entire country. Of those polled, only 22.9%
disagree that there is a correlation between the president's ability to negotiate trade agreements with foreign markets and
economic growth and job creation (11.3% of respondents were unsure or did not answer).
The survey found that a 54.5% of Ohio residents agree that Congress should renew the president's authority to negotiate
trade agreements with foreign markets to expand trade opportunities for U.S goods and services. An overwhelming
majority of respondents, 83.7% believe it is important for leaders from both political parties to work together to renew the
president's authority to negotiate trade agreements; 52% of those respondents stated a bipartisan effort is very important.
Just 12.2% of respondents indicated that such an effort is not at all important (4.1% of respondents were unsure or did not
respond to this question).
Key Tax Reform Results
The survey found that a commanding 91.7% of respondents think it is very or somewhat important to set American
business tax rates to a level that enables businesses to be competitive with other nations selling the same goods and
services.
Nearly 55% of respondents support simplifying the tax rate by setting a standard 25% tax rate for all businesses. Only
25% of respondents do not support a simplified 25% tax rate, though 8.6% of those respondents do not strongly oppose
such a plan (20% of respondents were unsure or did not answer the question).
About the Survey
The survey was conducted from May 13 to May 16 by Fallon Research & Communications, Inc., and included a total of
805 respondents with a margin of error of +/-3.45%. Interviews were conducted with voters on both landline and cell
phones and were offered in both English and Spanish.
