GOSPEL: Luke 9:28-36 (37-43) WHAT DOES THIS MEAN ?

THE TRANSFIGURATION
FROM LUTHER’S PRAYERS:
OF OUR LORD
O Father, relieve our consciences, now and in the hour of
death, from the terror of our guilt and the fear of your
judgement. Let your peace come into our hearts that we may
await your judgement with joy. Be not severe in your
judgement of us, or no man will be found righteous. Teach us,
dear Father, not to trust nor find comfort in our own merits or
good works. But teach us to venture and resign ourselves
faithfully and firmly to your infinite mercy. In the same
manner let us not lose courage because of our sinful and guilty
lives. Let us regard your mercy as higher and broader and
stronger than all our being. Amen.

FROM LUTHER’S SMALL CATECHISM:

The Lord’s Prayer:
The Second Petition

Your kingdom come.

What is this?
In fact, God’s kingdom comes on its own without
prayer, but we ask in this prayer that it may also come to
us.
How does this come about?
Whenever our heavenly Father gives us his Holy Spirit,
so that through the Holy Spirit’s grace we believe God’s
Holy Word and live godly lives here in time and
hereafter in eternity. Almighty God, on the mountain you showed your
glory in the transfiguration of your Son. Give us the
vision to see beyond the turmoil of our world and to
behold the king in all his glory; through your Son,
Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you
and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
