2015 SUMMER PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

PROGRAM OF STUDY
The International Chinese Language Program at National Taiwan University (ICLP) provides a
nine-week summer program of intensive Chinese study for selected undergraduate, graduate, or
unaffiliated students.
The goal of the program is to provide students with intensive oral-aural language instruction, and to
further reading ability in general materials and, as appropriate, in various disciplines or professional
fields.
Instruction consists of 20 hours of class per week, in a mix of class formats including individual
tutorials and group classes of three to five students per class. Each students schedule is determined by
his or her level of language proficiency as measured by oral and written tests prior to the beginning of
the program. Classes are scheduled between 8:10 and 12:00 in the morning and 1:10 and 4:00 in the
afternoon. Substantial preparation for classes is expected. ICLP has its own language laboratory and
reference library. It also has a computer room with Internet access.

GRADES AND CREDITS

ICLP provides a progress report upon request, but does not offer academic credits. Students home
institutions (if any) retain the right to evaluate work done at ICLP according to their own standards.
ICLP provides language training to students. It does not direct students in or toward particular
academic or professional careers.

The following persons are encouraged to apply for admissions: those who
(1) are degree candidates at an accredited university or college or plan to pursue Chinese-related studies,
or
