BJ Plug Catcher - Cement Displacement Tool

Product Information

Description
The BJ Plug Catcher is used to place cement plugs with accurate displacement
control in open or cased holes for zone isolation, lost circulation control, well
abandonment or other plug back operations. Solid cement footing for a
whipstock may also be formed.

Features and Benefits

One connection hook-up.

Simple and reliable construction.
Simple one trip hydraulic operation.
Can be run above the ParaBow tool for ultimate control and accuracy when
placing cement plugs.

The dart can be quickly customized for tapered strings.

The plug catcher can be run above the ParaBow so that positive
displacement control and a "known" bottom can be achieved for the
cement plug.

Reverse circulation, after shifting the baffle and plug to the lower position, is
possible since the baffle locks it in the lower position.

Accurate location of cement top.

Latch type wiper dart used behind the cement reduces contamination and
mixing of the cement slurry with the displacing fluid.

Pressure buildup at surface is a positive indication when the wiper dart

latched in the plug catcher. A later pressure build up (and subsequent drop)
indicates reverse circulation may be started.

Reentry of cement and other fluids into the drill pipe is checked at the plug
catcher until reverse circulation is started.

Running Procedure
1. Place the Plug Catcher near the end of the string of drill pipe, but above the cementing "stinger" and lower to
desired depth.
2. Displace cement. Release and pump wiper dart into the drill pipe behind the cement.
3. As the wiper dart approaches the extrusion tool, slow the pumps to 2 BPM max. When the wiper dart reaches
the plug catcher it enters the baffle and is locked and sealed in place.
Note: Maximum differential pressure permitted on the dart plug at this time is 1500 psi.
4. Pick up the drill pipe until the stinger is 30-60 ft. above the top of the cement.
5. Pressure up the drill pipe to shear the shear screws and shift the baffle in the plug catcher. The wiper dart
and the baffle will move to the bottom of the plug catcher sleeve uncovering its ports. The wiper dart and the
baffle will lock in the lower end of the tool and will remain there throughout the reverse circulation operation.
6. Circulate all excess cement through the drill pipe. This can be either down the drill pipe or by reversing through
the casing.
7. Retrieve, clean and redress the BJ Plug Catcher and dart plug.
