ARCHITECTURAL STEELWORK
To be read in conjunction with Division 1 General Requirements, Drawings and
Conditions of Contract.
PART 1 - GENERAL
1.01 DESCRIPTION

TIG welding: inert gas arc welding using a non-consumable electrode of


pure or activated tungsten.

2.

MIG welding: inert gas arc welding using a consumable electrode.

1.02 QUALITY ASSURANCE

Metalwork shall be fabricated by an experience manufacturer and


installed by experienced workmen.

After finalisation of all details, prepare one of each of the different


fabricated items, as part of the quantity required for the project, and
obtain approval of appearance before proceeding with manufacture of
the remaining quantity.

Provide fabrication/installation drawings and other information showing


complete details of all fabricated items for review and approval by the
Engineer.

Drawings shall be submitted at least 30 days before starting fabrication,

fabricating metalwork.

MOCK UPS
1.

Co-ordinate the work of this section with other trades in the performance
of the installation of the required mock ups.

2.

A basic mock up is to provided of the following:


a.

External faade complete including all steel supports and


Glazing units for a full column to column bay width and full
height of the building

b.

This item to be fully coordinated with all associated items


specified in Division 8 External Facades

1.04 DELIVERY, STORAGE AND HANDLING


A.

Protect during transit, delivery, storage and handling to prevent damage,


soiling and deterioration.

B.

Do not deliver until painting, wet work, grinding and similar operations which
could damage, soil or deteriorate have been completed in installation areas.
If, due to installed areas, store only in climatically safe environment, including
as necessary, off-site climatized storage.

C.

Ensure that all toughened glass infill panels remain crated up and in their
original manufacturers packaging and that all appropriate fixing accessories
are likewise treated.

1.05 JOB CONDITIONS
A.

CO-ORDINATION:
1.

Liaise with the Engineer, Sub-Contractors and others as necessary to


help ensure co-ordination of the work with related building elements and
services.

2.

Provide anchorage devices and fasteners, temporary braces and


anchors, as required for building into concrete and masonry, and any
necessary templates and instructions.

PART 2 - PRODUCTS
2.01 FABRICATION GENERAL
A.

Co-ordination:
Co-ordinate with other relevant trades and finishes with respect to fixing into
concrete structure or onto existing or finished walls.

Steel mullions with stainless steel support arms


1.

Mullions
Size: 200 x 700mm rectangular hollow steel sections.
Finish: Intumescent paint coating to KFD requirements
Casing: Meranti laminate to sizes and profiles detailed on drawings.

Components which do not fit site conditions shall be returned to the


shop for adjustment.

3.02. INSTALLATION

FIXING:

Position metalwork accurately, plumb, level and true to line.

Fix securely to prevent pulling away, deflection, or other movement


during use.

Do not distort when tightening fastenings.

SITE ADJUSTMENTS:

Do not make on-site adjustments to fabrication without approval.
