AKP A PROFILE

Mr.A.K Pattabiraman, usually referred to by friends and colleagues as AKP,

joined the Tata Consultancy Services in 2OO4. He currently wears two
important hats in TCS - he is the Head of the Accreditation Process for
South India and also drives the Academic Interface Program for Tamil Nadu.
In the former role, he continually evaluates the quality of engineering
institutions in all the four southern states and the Union Territory of
Pondicherry, in terms of their students, faculty, facilities and process for the
purpose of accreditation. Once the said process of accreditation is over, the
Sourcing team of the company
can recruit students from the said
institutions. In other words, AKP is responsible for selection of campuses
from where their Recruitment Team can make campus selections.
In his other capacity as AIP in charge for Tamil Nadu, AKP is the bridge
between academia and the industry. His designated responsibility is to
ensure backward integration with the most important stakeholder of the
company namely academia and students through knowledge transfer
exercises, institution of awards, promotion of excellence, and by ensuring
uninterrupted flow of information..
AKP who did his Masters from Madras University joined the Central
Information Service and saw posting various Ministries including the ,
Department of Cabinet Affairs of the Union Cabinet Secretariat..
AKP was drafted by invitation to the Joined Research and Analysis Wing of
OSD in 1971 at the most critical time when India was locked up with
Pakistan in one of the fieriest confrontations in the history of the
subcontinent.
Was made part of an important working group constituted by the
Government of the day for the purpose of the war and helped to create a Psy
War cell for the government which played a pivotal role in successfully
destructing the enemy morale.

Upon conclusion of the historic war that vivisected Pakistan and facilitated
the emergence of India as a dominant power, AKP was involved in several
post war issues, including the PoWs.
He served on the China, Pakistan. Sri Lanka and West Asia Desks. Was
deeply involved in studies relating to Pan Islamic and Pan Communist
movements across the globe.
In 1981, he joined the Indian Institute of Technology Madras Head of
Training and Placement.
He built up the Training and Placement activities of the IIT M right from the
scratch. When he was commissioned for the job in 1981, there were just 30
companies visiting the IIT M for recruitment but with sustained efforts
built up that the Placement Office in IITM had become a Model Office. He
helped to create a data base of over 300 companies and paved the way for
many MNCs from abroad to hire talents from this knowledge pool.
AKP has since developed a passion for education. He is deeply concerned
about the perceptible gap between the competency built up in the
educational institutions in the country and the quality demanded by the
market forces. He is working steadfastly to bridge this gap by organizing
workshops, conducting classes and promoting FDPs in colleges.
His wife, a graduate of yesteryears from QMC is a home maker. Son, an
Engineer by training, is holding a managerial position in a software house
while his daughter in law is a practicing doctor.
