Basic

Mitten Pattern
By Diane Ivey of Lady Dye Fiber Arts & Design

I wrote this pattern for my intermediate knitting students and this is a great pattern for those who want a very quick knit
basic pattern for mittens. Worested weight yarn is definitely ideal. The picture of these mittens where done on size 5
double pointed needles. I did not do the cuff on the smaller size needles as I wanted a loose cuff but if you want a snug
cuff, use a smaller size needle for the cuff then switch to the large size needle for the rest of the pattern. This pattern
can be worked on double pointed needles or you can use the magic loop.

Materials:
Worsted Weight Yarn (200 yards)
Size 5 double pointed needles
Stitch markers
Scissors
Tape measure
Tapestry needle
Wasted yarn (or a holder for the thumb stitches)

Gauge:
20 stitches = 4 inches in Stockinette stitch
Definition:

MAKE 1 STITCH (M1): Knit into the front of the stitch and knit into the back loop of the same stitch.

KNIT TWO TOGETHER (K2Tog): Knit two stitches together

SLIP SLIP KNIT (SSK): Slip two stitches from the left needle to the right needle and knit the two stitches together on the
right needle.
