FUNCTION

As soon as one or more transient recorders capture transients in the system

(three phase voltages and currents transients ) these data with GPS time stamp is
immediately transferred to the central server.
After reception of the captured transients central server is searching for the
real time data for the lightning activity obtained from the Lightning Location
System (data which also has accurate GPS time stamp).
Comparing GPS times for both data set, server detects if power system
disturbance is generated or not by the fault produced by lightning stroke.
If disturbance is generated by lightning this information is immediately
transferred to the user with automatic geographical display of the stroke location
and peak current. Stroke data is displayed on the map of the region with the
display of the OHL routes.
Position of the I3CM controllers is displayed on the same map. I3CM
controllers detecting transients are highlighted.
User can click on the controller position to get shapes of the voltage and
current recorded by the corresponding controller

Conclusions
1. By the real time comparison of the Lightning Location System data and data
received from the real time transient recorders it is possible to develop very
powerful power system monitoring technology.
2. Using developed system, lightning performance of the particular line is
automatically determined. It is possible to easily determine lightning
performance of the different line sections. This information help us to undertake
corresponding measures, like:
Tower footing resistance improvements
Installation of Line surge arresters
Installation of the additional shield or under built ground wires
3. Those measures are focused on the bad performing line sections only, which can
lead to the substantial amount of money saving.
4. Proposed system can be used also as real time lightning caused fault locator (one
span accuracy).
5. According to the available data obtained by the proposed system user can easily
extract information needed to perform the corresponding software

simulation by sigma slp or EMTP_RV software.
