Manufacturing Process

1.

The seamless pipes are cut into specific required length.

2-7.

The end portions are heated in induction heater and closed by hot spinning process by
using forming roller on Computerized Numerical Controlled (CNC) machines. For getting
shape of concave bottom, closed dome is pressed in hydraulic press using die and
punch. All domes are inspected prior to neck formation.

8.

All neck formed cylinders are checked for wall thickness at bases.

9-11.

Cylinders are hardened & tempered in oil fired continuous walking beam type furnace.

12.

Cylinders are subject to hardness test for verification of heat- treatment process.

13.

Fully automatic Computerized Numerical Controlled, 5 station transfer line for neck drilling
machine & threading for fitment of valve.

14.

Finished cylinders are subject to the hydrostatic stretch test by water jacket method at
hydro test pressure.

15.

Cylinders are subjected to Air Leakage testing at working pressure.

16-17.

Cylinders are shot blasted both internally & externally to remove scales caused by the
hot forming process.

18.

Data is stamped on neck profile as per standard.

19.

Each cylinder is ultrasonically examined for defects detection and thickness measurement
as per required standard, for flaw detection and the thickness measurements.

20.

Cylinder weighed and tare weight is recorded.

21.

Primer & finish paint is applied on external surface using spray painting. Correct colour
code is used for identification of type of gas.

22.

Valves are fitted in cylinder neck. Protective guards are fitted on corrosion resistant neck
ring. Cylinders are then packaged & despatched.

RAW MATERIAL:
The cylinders are manufactured from Seamless Steel Tubes of superior quality
steel, passed through necessary tests and controls having required metallurgical
properties made from various grades (i.e. Manganese Steel .Chrome - Moly
Steel).
MANUFACTURING PROCESS:
The seamless steel cylinders are manufactured by closing bottom & neckforming
on CNC hot spinning machine and subjected to all internal tests & controls at
every stage of production to assure a quality product with cylinders diameters
ranging from 76 to 406mm.
Accessories such as valve fixing, neck ring, cap and guard are fitted on cylinders
as per customer's requirement. The plant is equipped with most modern
machineries from reputed Indian & International suppliers to produce superior
quality products.
The entire production process / testing is controlled by RCPL and done in-house
in our own dedicated plant. This ensures that RCPL is capable of offering the right
quality cylinder at right price that fits most of the needs of customers.
INSPECTIONS TEST:
Following inspection and testing activities are carried as per Indian & International
standards requirements:
Dimensional & visual inspection of raw seamless steel tubes , monitoring of
bottom & neck forming temperatures, heat-treatment parameters monitoring &
recording, hardness after heat treatment, mechanical properties - tensile
strength, yield strength, % elongation & impact strength etc, Sulfide stress
cracking Test, pressure cyclic & burst testing, bon fire test, bullet penetration test,
inspection of machining parameters, water capacity checking, hydrostatic
stretch test, air leakage test, ultrasonic testing, tare weight & data cross checking
before despatch.
