1. Where do you see yourself 5 Years Down the line after completing MBA? (1 page).

I will be passing out of IIM Kashipur in 2017. After 5 years of passing out, I do have certain goals which
I am planning to achieve.
In the long term, I plan on integrating Computer Science and Financial market. I had a very brief
experience with virtual Commodity trading and what I noticed was that we can use Computers speed to
our advantage. There is significant time lag between the information getting displayed on the screen and
action being taken based on that information. I used an automation tool which made my clicks faster and I
was able to take a decent advantage of this fact. I want to work towards making an automated trading tool
which can use the news available online to take minor decisions and automate financial trading.
In the time duration of five years I plan on working towards that goal.
Repay the loan: After completing my MBA the first priority is to get rid of the loan which I have taken for
my education. Id try to bring the loan down to the minimum so that I dont have to pay interest for the
rest of my life.
Get acquainted with the industry: Id have to be in touch with people who belong to Software Industry ,
Marketing and have some exposure to finance.
Start a venture, arrange for funding:It wont be possible to set up a successful enterprise in just five years,
but I can at least start working on it.
Get to know more about financial market: Itll be a continuous process which will start from day 1 at IIM
Kashipur and will go on for ever.
Assemble a highly talented team: It is going to be the most daunting challenge of my life time. The
problem is extremely talented people, who love what they do, are perfectionists, artists. And getting two
or more artists to work together is difficult. Ill try to use my social skills to convince them and show the
potential of what we are doing. I already have a couple of programmers. I need to find people with
financial skills and marketing skills. I plan on having assembled a team after five years from passing out
of this college.
Start working on an algorithm that trades by itself: The most important part of my venture is going to be
the algorithm which collects news from around the world and processes it to predict the effect on market.
It is not going to be easy but to get a head start I plan to have ample knowledge about the variables that
affect financial market.

2. Professional Achievements and Personal Achievements (1 page each).

Professional Achievements:
Training and Placement Coordinator: I was Coordinator of the placement committee of the college,
we used to take care of Placement and Training activities of the college. During the year when I was a
placement Coordinator we witnessed a more than 80 % increment in Placements as compared to last
year.
What I learnt there: Communication Skills, The time spent in Placement Office made me realize
the importance of being good at communication; Team Skills: We had a team of 16 TPRs and 24
deputy TPRs, managing a team of deputy TPRs has been a personal milestone for me. Importance
of MS Excel: In fact at times, when wed be interviewing juniors for the position of Deputy TPRs
we always had a couple of questions from MS Excel.
How Placement Committee benefitted from me: I always believed in maximum use of available
resources especially information and technology. We faced a lot of trouble in getting the contact
information of HRs, to overcome that we started calling/mailing the information desk and asked
them for contacts of HR Dept. (Used a bulk mailer to expedite the process.);Proper planning and
an inspired team helped us to conduct the recruitment process very smoothly. During the
placements for Tata Chemicals, the HR team requested us to try and get the tests conducted in
two batches so that interviews can be finished on time. I asked my placement officer to talk to the
HR team and get us permission to use laptops. We got the permission and we managed to wrap
the test in a single batch. It cant be said that it inspired them to recruit more students but having a
better recruiting experience is something which certainly gets rewarded.
Alumni association: For the Alumni association I used to be the Treasurer and the Coordinator for the
annual Alumni meet of Our College Convergence. Despite a very sharp decrease in the number of
alumni attending the event I managed to get 30% more donations as compared to last year.
What I learnt there: You have to be extremely creative to get donations; try to get in touch with as
many people as possible, and one should always try to use group dynamics.

Mathematics Olympiad: Secured International Rank 35 in International Mathematics Olympiad.

KiND: Have you ever written a program on Computer in any language? Have you ever wondered if you
can write a computer program in English?
For ex: If input is more than 7 print hi else print Hello.
What about a computer which allowed you to write a program in any language, and by any language we
really mean any language as long as you can type it, KiND will process it. The present prototype works in
mathematical but it can be extended to make it a full-fledged programming.
Praiser Model: It was an error handler which I designed and implemented in KiND. I could have easily
applied for a patent for Praiser model, but I preferred to keep it open source.

Event Coordinator and Coordinating Team member: In tte departmental fest of Computer Science and
Engineering department IET Lucknow I was a part of Coordinating team and Event coordinator.
Personal Achievements:
Tata Crucible: I have been to the finals of Regional rounds of Tata Crucible in year 2013 and 2015.
National Level Quiz: Won a national level quiz organized by Maharishi Centre for Educational
Excellence in Bhopal. I won a regional level quiz organized by ISRO.
Event Host: I was the quiz master for the Departmental Fest of Computer Science and Engineering
department IET Lucknow.
Getting into an IIM : It was a proud moment for me to be offered a seat in an IIM.

3. What specialization you are intending to do in IIM Kashipur & Why so?
Right now I am focusing towards getting a major in Marketing and a Minor in Finance.
Why Major in marketing:
To sell the software product that I plan to develop I need to have some marketing skills as well as
a team of excellent marketers. Having a major in Marketing will allow me to communicate with them in
an effective way and analyze our work more closely.
Moreover I love to interact with people, couple that with the domain knowledge I will be able to sell the
product in a more effective way.
Minor in Finance:
The product is going to handle the trading aspect for which I must have knowledge of finance and
how the financial market functions and how the various variables interact with each other.
Having knowledge and insight into financial world would allow me to interact with the teams in a better
way.

4. Discuss a person, event, idea, or experience that has significantly shaped your life and explain
why? (1000-1500 words)
Accidental Billionaires by Ben Mezrich: That was the thing about VC money. It was awesome.
I read this book when I was in class 10. Although the motive behind reading this book was to get to know
how Facebook was designed and developed, I ended up knowing Facebook came to be what it is today.
How it became a financial sensation, how it beat Myspace at its very own game.
The best thing that I learnt is that its not about creating a product, its all about how good you are at
selling that product.
Two weeks with Trade Mogul:
Trade Mogul provides a virtual Future trading platform, where you can trade in real time and with
real data talked about. The simple logic behind this stuff made it very appealing to me. Before coming
across Trade Mogul I had no idea whatsoever about the commodity and future trading. After spending two
weeks I lost a major chunk of my earning from S&P500 and Gold to Brent Crude. The most interesting
thing was that stable items like gold and other things were safe to be traded by an algorithm.
I plan on integrating Computer Science and Financial market. I had a very brief experience with
virtual Commodity trading and what I noticed was that we can use Computers speed to our advantage.
There is significant time lag between the information getting displayed on the screen and action being
taken based on that information. I used an automation tool which made my clicks faster and I was able to
take a decent advantage of this fact. I want to work towards making an automated trading tool which can
use the news available online to take minor decisions and automate financial trading.
The point here is not to predict the future events but just to follow the current trend in such a way that
we buy and sell for very short durations and keep that repeating very frequently.

5. Tell about yourself (1000-1500 words).

I have always been known as Alok, I never had any nicknames. I recently completed B.Tech in Computer
Science I always prefer practical implementation over theory. This helped me to develop a computer
language(KiND).
Physically I am thin as compared to any normal person but it is strange enough that once my BMI
used to lie in overweight category. I always love to sport an unshaven look and casual clothes, which are
comfortable.
My biggest sport achievement is 3 wickets in a single over, which consisted of 26 balls.( and that marked
the end of my short-lived cricketing career.)
Academically Ive secured 35th rank in International Mathematics Olympiad, and Won a national level
quiz.
Socially I love taking responsibility and interacting with people. In college I was associated with
Placement Committee, Alumni association and also the initiator of Induction module. At times I can be a
bit tough but at the end of the day it helps me to finish what has been assigned to me.
My biggest strength is my ability to get along with people
I suffer from tone deafness, which stops me from appreciating the beats in songs, in short I cant dance.
Strength

Very good people skills- Getting along easily with people helps a lot in circumstances where
communication is the key to success. I have used it a lot during my time at Alumni association
and Place-Comm.

Quick learner: Being a quick learner allows me to learn new things quickly and use them to my
advantage.

Weakness

Sometimes I can be a bit hardheaded. It creates an impression that I am emotionless, But it helps
me in getting my job done because sometimes we have to be a bit tough in order to get the job
done.

I dont like getting involved in conflicts. I avoid getting into conflicts, so I try to avoid any
arguable topic which doesnt concern me.

6. What do you expect from two years of MBA (500-1000 words)?

Develop contacts (both with alumni and the current students):

Hold some position of responsibility (Placement Committee and Alumni Association):
Clubs and Committees (Marketing, Quiz, Finance and IT):
Apart from these Id also like to add the following to my to-do list for MBA:

Managerial skills: The motivating factor that pushed us to work hard and come to a coveted
place like an IIM was the greed to learn managerial skills from one of the best
institutes. Like other students Id also like to learn theory as well as practical
knowledge to get through the thick and thins that Ill face as a manager.
Communication skills: It is something which can always be improved. According to a survey it is
the single most important quality for hiring a manager. Itd be my first
priority to improve my communication skills through active social
interaction and participation in co-curricular activities.
Confidence about my oratory skills: I have had chances to showcase my oratory talent. I have
hosted a couple of events, but even then I dont have
confidence on my oratory skills. Ill try to improve it here in
IIM Kashipur by participating in activities and hosting some
events (quiz) which will help me to gain some confidence.

7. About IIM Kashipur (In your words, do not copy from internet).

Its a serene place.

It is Very cost effective here.
No scope for any distraction.
Very calm and its not at all noisy like other campuses which are in heart of cities.

There are some negative points as well:

No shops nearby.
Have to go to Kashipur every now and then.

8.Prepare 2 page resume.
