2. GLOBAL TRADE - KEY FINDINGS

Belgium dominates in the global trade of vaccines for human medicine. In
2014, Belgium exported 6,199 tonnes of vaccines for human medicine totaling
$10,526M, 39% over the previous year. Its primary trading partner was
France, where it supplied 30.9% of its total vaccine for human medicine
exports in value terms, accounting for 83.3% of total French imports.
From 2007 to 2014, Belgium was a net exporter of vaccines for human
medicine. Over the period under review, exports consistently exceeded imports
in value terms. However, in physical terms, the difference was somewhat
mitigated by high import prices.
Belgiums top 5 trading partners in 2014 were France, the U.S., Germany, the
UK and Brazil, with a combined share 74.3% of Belgian exports. The share of
France increased significantly (+25 percentage points), while the share of
Germany illustrated negative dynamics (-8 percentage points).
France and Ireland were among the other main global suppliers of vaccines for
human medicine in 2014. They were also among the fastest growing suppliers
at 18% and 169% growth rates, respectively. With this impressive surge,
Ireland greatly toned up its position in the global export structure.
