What Is The Difference Between System

Analysis And System Design?

Good question. Both are closely related - in fact, system design is a

part of the System Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
First you have to understand what a system is. Basically,
information systems are everywhere. Consider your local supermarket they have a system which tracks inventory levels and reorders stock as
required. They also have a system which looks after the financial side of
the organization; how much money has been made from a day of trading,
staffing budgets, etc. These systems dont just include computers and
software. They also include the people that use the system and procedures.
So in short, an information system is a collection of hardware, software,
data, human and procedural components intended to give the right data
and information to the right person at the right time.
Systems Analysis refers to the process in which Analysts go through to determine how a
system should operate - that is determining what functions the system should perform,
whether its feasible for the system to be developed (such as financial feasibility; do
the benefits of the system outweigh the costs of developing the system?), what data
is going to be collected and stored. In essence, Systems Analysis is concerned with
problem solving - creating a system that will solve an organizational problem.
Systems Design is actually the third step of the SDLC - its where the analysis designs
how the system will operate. The physical components of the system are defined here
which specifies how the problem at hand will be solved.
How To Make A System Analysis And Design Of Any System?
Well System Analysis and Design, in short (SAD) is a very rigorous
and iterative process that requires one to be open minded and
makes enough room for contingencies so that you are prepared for
all eventualities. You may follow following steps in order to design
a system as an analyst:
1) Defining the Problem Statement: For this part you will have to
conduct preliminary researches. Many analysts use make extensive use of models and
conduct interviews, develop work flow models in order to understand the current flow
of information, services and materials. It will help you to identify the problem areas
and identify major loopholes in the system and bottle necks. You will need to consult
everyone from front line employees and the top management. Define the problematic
areas, some tools you may use in this step can be:

Flow chart diagrams.

Questionnaires and interviews.

Quantitative and Qualitative Analysis.

After this step you need to devise a time frame and use a project management utility
devising the time frame and activities. Set deadlines for yourself.
2) Based on the above step select the applications that would be used in the process
and the kind of computer system and software required to automate/update it. You
will need to select whether you would choose to buy an off the shelf application or
customize a software application catering to their specific needs.
3) Present your final proposal and get the terms and conditions formally agreed to by
your client. Do the necessary documentation.
4) Implementation: The most tricky and crucial stage in System
Analysis and Design. You will need to help the employees and the
management understand the benefits of the proposed system. Then
you will implement your solution and train the employees on the new
system. You will also need to do the necessary documentation for the
applications, also you will need to assess step by step how the process
is proceeding and make the necessary changes if the need arises.
In software development, whats the difference between analysis and design?
Analysis involves measuring, itemizing, clarifying, and organizing. Analysis is typically
performed in preparation for some other activity, such as a decision or a design.
Design is performed when the decision is made to build something. Design involves
imagining and specifying some creation that fits some requirements.
The best way to remember the difference is you can judge a design as good or bad,
while you can only validate an analysis as right or wrong. For example:

The design for a car isnt right or wrong, its good or bad.

The analysis of the performance of the car is either right or wrong, never good
or bad.
