Geovanny Xichotencatl Perez

SABIS is a global education network that operates in 16

countries and educates 70,000 students. Using a
comprehensive, proprietary system, SABIS Network schools
provide students with a high-quality education that is essential to
help them achieve success in a changing world.
A member of the SABIS Network, the SABIS International
School (SIS) in Phoenix, Arizona, U.S., was started in the 2001
and welcomed 300 students ranging from Kindergarten through
6th grade. The public charter school quickly established a
reputation for providing a high-quality education and for helping
all students achieve their full potential. The school currently
serves over 700 students.

This is a story about an SIS student who showed that he has what it takes to overcome challenges.
Geovanny Xichotencatl Perez, originally from a small town in Mexico, just finished Grade 8 at SIS, where
he began as a student in the first grade. With no previous knowledge of the English language before joining
SIS, Geovanny approached every day at school with determination and optimism. He was enrolled in
English Language Learner (ELL) classes at the school so that he could learn English. After three years in
the ELL program, he moved to Regular English and he never looked back. He was on the Honor Roll during
much of his time at SIS and was a leader in the classroom.
Geovanny also practiced his leadership skills as part of the SABIS Student Life Organization (SLO) at the
school. He spent this past year as Head Prefect and served in other capacities as well throughout his time
at the school. He was Deputy Head Prefect of Discipline, Senior Prefect, and Indoor/Outdoor Prefect.
Through SLO, Geovanny became involved in a variety of community service events. He served at the
food bank, participated in car washes, read to kindergarteners, helped with read-a-thons, and joined
community clean-ups. He also excelled in sports including track, in which he recently placed in the top 10
in both hurdles and the 200-meters at the state track competition.
Since Geovannys parents both work long hours, in addition to making sure that he stayed on top of his
schoolwork, he also took on extra responsibilities at home. He cared for his younger brother and sister,
ensuring they completed their studies, ate well, and developed good hygiene habits. While Geovanny had
added responsibilities, he did not see them as a burden but chose to see them as part of his role as a big
brother. Just another element that demonstrates what a remarkable young man he is.
Through his time at SIS, Geovanny developed a solid academic foundation and strong leadership skills.
What he accomplished and acquired while in attendance at SIS will help him reach his full potential and
achieve his goal of studying to become an engineer at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Geovanny
is a true SABIS success story. The sky is the limit for this young man as he ventures into the next chapter
of his life in high school.
